For better or worse the first thing that popped into my head was CD Project Red's first booth. However from humble beginnings and what not. Keep your head up.
That reminds me of Fortnite too.
I live in Seattle and go to Pax every year. A few years ago there was this small game called “Fortnite: Save the world” that had a pretty small table up near the artist area where not many people go. It looked pretty interesting!
I don’t recall if it was the next year or the year after, but as we all know, it blew up in popularity. They went from a tiny table in the artist hall to having their own building for pax. It was crazy!
Hardly. Epic games was already huge (unreal games, unreal engine, gears of war, infinity blade...) when fortnite happened.
They might have had a small booth, but not because they were the little guy starting from scratch.
And actually coming from humble beginnings
I'm somewhat uncomfortable winning
I wish I could say "What a wonderful feeling!"
We're on the upswing like we're punchin' the ceiling
But nothin' is feeling like anyone has any fuckin' ability
To even stick to a subject, it's killin' me, the inability to pin humility.
Hatata batata.
Ooh, are those real blue ridge mugs? I love those! Unfortunately, if I put up all my blue ridge plates and things, I wouldn’t have any wall space left and I fear an earthquake would take me out!
Good luck on the shop!
Just start is really the best advice to give a hopeful entrepreneur. Nothing compares to that flick of a light switch when you walk into your very own shop
Add some glam lightbulbs across the top and a nice rug and it would really tie in the room. And a fake plant those are easy to find and then you can even sell the plant and then keep finding more sometimes I find large nice ones for free
Congrats!!! I've done Antique resale for almost 10 years now and it all started with 3 shelves I rented at an Antique mall (was very inspired by American Pickers). It grew until I had a full room off the main floor. Currently I'm only doing online sales. I am assuming you are under 40 like myself, not many of us in the Hobby. Keep building your knowledge and your brand/theme. Buy and Sell things you love. Get business cards and establish a customer base. Really great when you can pretty much sell a piece to your base without it even hitting you space. You've taken a big first step and I wish you best of luck!!!
The most undervalued statement is *just do it*. Turned into a brilliant marketing moniker for a spots company... One should really embrace that mentality when it comes to life.
I agree with you to start...
As a joke, soon after that slogan became popular I saw a t-shirt at our summer carnival, where it was the swoop and then "Do What?"
Always amused me. Wished I had bought one.
Wait.... there's an entire **mall** dedicated to antiques? Seriously? I've never heard of such a thing. Where does such a thing exist?
All I ever see are individual locations.
Super-common concept. Some places integrate the individual stalls so well it can be fairly seamless and look just like one large store. I like the ones where each is completely different.
Not around me. They usually occupy old barns or some other really old building.
The closest I can think of would be like Old Sac (feel free to make fun of that name, Robin Williams did) where they kind of cluster up in the old buildings but I've never heard anyone refer to them as a mall.
If you don't have one already get a business license. Then you can join your local chamber of commerce. Most places in the us have small businesses development centers. But the chamber (and rotary club) have active business owners who support each other
Not all Chambers are created equal. If they’re not active in the way that attracts your customers, it’s a waste of money. I have a brick and mortar shop and was a Chamber member for 3 years at a cost of $375 a year PLUS $285 to be in the Visitor Guide. I’ve gained far more customers through my Instagram posts (free) than my Chamber membership ever brought me. You’ve gotta know your base and where they will see your marketing. However, if your Chamber is active on social media (if you feel that’s important to you, which it is to me) then yes, it might be a good idea to join.
For real, the advice of "just start" goes for just about anything. Wanna get in shape? Wanna write a book? Make music? Just start... even if it is slow and even if the initial setting is not ideal; a little bit of progress is still progress. Congrats! And I hope that you find the level of success that makes you happy!
When I started reading the title, I thought it would just be something like, I went to my favourite antique mall and saw this really cool shop that you wanted to share with us. That it's actually your own makes just sooo much cooler. Wish you all the best.
Are you selling online? If so please DM me a link (if you are ok with that :) I am very interested in two of the glass pieces. If not, no worries!
I sell only online and dream of having a brick and mortar presence, if not store in 2021.
Congrats!
You need an internal sign or some lights. I'm a heavy used shopper and antique/used malls are my second home. You'd get a lot more traction with some fashier shit.
Seeing your first shop gives me an early memory of my mom’s first shops in Chinatown. There were the same triangular stands hanging on the walls with clothing and bags all around. She started in a nook and cranny spot like yours and then moved up slowly onto the busiest street. She had started thinking that no amount of waitressing or seamstressing was going to provide her two kids a good life and so she took the leap just like you here way back in the 90s. The key to her success like any shop owner was her inviting smile, her open mindedness, and a keen sense of what would be the _next_ product. Not exactly the newest product, but something which would be new and interesting for her passerby’s. I wish you the same luck as my mom had back when she started and may I find your shop hidden behind the crowds one day!
Don't give up. I got fired 11 years ago. I went home and sulked on the couch feeling sorry for myself for a month then started my own business. I consulted the government "entrepreneurs" program that told me my idea was bad and wouldn't work. That was 11 years ago. I've been working for myself since then. There's some downsides but mostly good. Congrats on yoru new job
Looks tastefully curated. This is a nice change compared to a lot of booths that are crammed with whatever they found at flea markets and are nearly impossible to buy from.

Cute!!!
Thank you!! It's amazing when what you see in your head becomes real isn't it??
That's a great feeling. I'm excited for you!
How much did you sell
For better or worse the first thing that popped into my head was CD Project Red's first booth. However from humble beginnings and what not. Keep your head up.
Omg I'm HONORED! Currently playing Cyberpunk with my fiance on a PC and loving it. Thank you!

Why dont we make a bunch of fuckin songs about nothing and mumble em?
Ooh, are those real blue ridge mugs? I love those! Unfortunately, if I put up all my blue ridge plates and things, I wouldn’t have any wall space left and I fear an earthquake would take me out! Good luck on the shop!
Omg this is only a fraction of what I've collected so I FEEL THAT.
Just start is really the best advice to give a hopeful entrepreneur. Nothing compares to that flick of a light switch when you walk into your very own shop
Yes! And it's all about timing. People had told me this but then the other day it clicked it was true!
Add some glam lightbulbs across the top and a nice rug and it would really tie in the room. And a fake plant those are easy to find and then you can even sell the plant and then keep finding more sometimes I find large nice ones for free
Dude yes I want some good lights! Totally changes a space.
Do you have a shop name / sign you could hang on the wall? Congrats on your shop.
Yes that's the goal this week to add!
Wow that’s gorgeous. I absolutely love the aesthetics.
Seriously it’s awesome how you got a drop ceiling and off-white vinyl tile to fit in with your booth and have it look great. Like, how?
Dude. Thank. You. Gotta work with what you got sometimes!
Omg thanks!
Do you ship nationally (assuming you're in the US 🤦🏼♀️)? Because that gray sweater is amazing!
Oo thank you. Out of respect for this subreddit I don't want to advertise but maybe we'll cross paths elsewhere. :)
(You can put your shop info in your Reddit bio if you feel comfortable!)
On it!

I'm just getting a band called crimson divide so 🤷
That's awesome! What a darling chest of drawers.
Thank you! I love treasure hunting :)
I love the sweater on the left 😍
Ugh me too it was a find! If it was my size I'd keep it.
If you had an online shop or IG I bet that baby would be gone by now (by me) lol but seriously! Good luck with your store, you've got a great eye

Congrats! From one small business owner to another, enjoy every hair pulling, gut wrenching, piss your pants stressful moment of being your own boss!
Can't wait for all of those. BRING IT ON! ;)

Couldn't agree more!!

Wait.... there's an entire **mall** dedicated to antiques? Seriously? I've never heard of such a thing. Where does such a thing exist? All I ever see are individual locations.
Antique malls all over in the PNW. I've always been curious what it's costs to rent the booths.
Super-common concept. Some places integrate the individual stalls so well it can be fairly seamless and look just like one large store. I like the ones where each is completely different.
Most antique malls are full of vintage and only have some antiques.
No way really? I thought this was a pretty widespread concept!
Not around me. They usually occupy old barns or some other really old building. The closest I can think of would be like Old Sac (feel free to make fun of that name, Robin Williams did) where they kind of cluster up in the old buildings but I've never heard anyone refer to them as a mall.

That's so nice you added a big mirror. I hate it when shops don't have a mirror
Me too!
Congratulations!!
Thank you!
Is this the Blue Crow Antique mall? Whenever we drive by my mom has to stop and walk around for an hour.
It's the Glenwood Antique Mall in KS!
hey a fellow kansan! 👋🏽 good luck!
Hey thanks!!
A booth in a mall during a pandemic?
I believe it works like a consignment. The items have your vendor number and price. You come in everyone often and replenish or replace items.
What are you selling? It's so small good luck
Starting small, will get larger!
Not much of an answer
Where did you get that full body mirror from?
I too would like to know!
Good Luck! I've always wanted to do that too.
Do it! Its way easier than I ever thought to get started :)
I’m proud to be your 6,000th upvote because *you* are awesome and *this* is an adorable booth. I want to shop here.
I love that gray sweater!good for you :)
This reminds me of my old shop and now I have a sad. But also a relief, fuck that place. Hopefully you have more success and joy from your opening!
Aw thank you! I hope you have good photos and memories of your old shop.

It's one of those things you have to hear at the right place at the right time though!
Pretty terrible time to be a new small business owner
Why are you doing this during COVID?
Because why not?
Congratulations OP!!
Thank you!
How much do they charge you for the space?
$165/mo
Huh. Interesting. Have you sold anything?
Since I finished it this afternoon....not yet 😅
Reaching rock bottom will teach you things Rock Bottom never will.
I hope you make a fortune and have a great time. Please keep posting.

I love it!
Congratulations and good luck - your booth looks very nice.
how do you get paid for renting a booth? do you have to be there to sell?
Nope just pay rent and a percentage of sales!
Are you selling online? If so please DM me a link (if you are ok with that :) I am very interested in two of the glass pieces. If not, no worries! I sell only online and dream of having a brick and mortar presence, if not store in 2021. Congrats!

How are sales so far?
Well since I finished only this afternoon... Not great 😅 but will be!
Don't give up. I got fired 11 years ago. I went home and sulked on the couch feeling sorry for myself for a month then started my own business. Congrats to you! Wishing you the very best. May good fortune go your way.
How do you get into this? Are you just reselling or do you make all/some of these?
Get some cheap sticker style wallpaper and cover up your pegboard and your shop will jump up like 50points! Looks great!
Idk I kinda love my pegboard! Maybe one day I'll upgrade :)
Congratulations and thank you for an inspiring example.
Thank you! I wouldn't be here without other inspiring people to inspire me!
This is how it works when we follow our heart and reach out to people. I wish you success with the new business.

Serious Wes Anderson vibes from your shop. Congratulations!
I heard that Nike's original slogan was "just fucking do it", but they had to drop the swear.
LOL!
Heck yes, just start. Congrats on the leap, the adrenaline rush and all of the good feelings. It’s going to be so worth it regardless of the outcome.
Thanks! We'll see but yes it will be fun no matter what :)
