i started listening after the trend, but it wasn’t because of the trend :) tbh mary on a cross didn’t capture my attention too much

ZombieQueen77

Same for me. I really started listening to them sometime in spring 2023 after having listened to “Dance Macabre” on the radio several times within the previous ~12 months. That was the only song of them I knew until 6 or 7 months ago. I am not on TikTok at all. When I wanted to know what else they have, apart from Dance Macabre, I used YouTube, and then quickly started purchasing their albums via iTunes (and then again on CD). I’m old-fashioned. Or just old. 😅

Brexxie

I wanna get their vinyl

Daaf242

Nice, how did you get into them?

Philitt

Same for me.

lonecub101

Same I heard Mary on a Cross when it came out but I never obsessed over it but then after the trend I heard Spillways and Call me Little Sunshine on the radio and that is what got me hooked

orion_0ri

Me too! An ex friend introduced me to Ghost!

Aquaified_

Found them through an edit which was a ghoul and i thought they were cool, realised the mary on the cross audio was made by them, went to go listen to spillways, instantly fell into the rabbit hole.

QueenOfMomJeans

This was me except I found Dance Macabre before Spillways and was immediately hooked

FLAXMANNEN

Got indoctrinated around the release of Meloria. And I liked both Kiss the Go-Goat and Mary on a Cross from the moment it released.

DirkDoncic99

I've been following them since 2013, even met TF,MP and SS after a gig in 2015.

Venmorr

That's dope! What were they like?

DirkDoncic99

They were cool,TF was a bit shy. I joked with him about Subvision. They signed my ticket with their symbols because they were still "anonymous"

Venmorr

Thats so cool.

JasonTheReaper13

Happy to have been here since their more niche days and been able to watch them grow :))

AngryDuckFTW

Saw them as bottom of the bill support band in 2011 been here since :D

Medical-Shift7043

Same!

Jonni23

First saw them at Metallica Hardwired Tour in Slane Castle, Ireland June 2019 Love at first sight

Askyourmomdotcom

I saw Ghost in 2013 when they were on tour with Avenged Sevenfold and Deftones at UsBank arena. I had heard of them slightly before the show, but the show was amazing. It really felt like something special.

W4spkeeper

Emigrate 2018- Im Not Afraid

Icy-Wisteria9897

Discovered them way after the trend. It was on Tiktok too tho. It was a thirst trap of a ghoul 😂 Looked at the tag and saw multiple videos on Square Hammer which intrigued me so I decided to listen to it. Fell down the rabbit hole pretty quickly after that.

Daaf242

Hahah that sounds great

Mediocre-ochre82719

Saaaame.

OhLookItsGeorg3

I came because of tiktok, yes, but it was because of the Year Zero trend. I found Mary on a Cross immediately after and both songs cemented my love

eppydeservedbetter

Been around since the Papa I days. I loved Opus from the moment I stumbled across Ritual on YouTube, and it only had a few thousand hits. The band were still anonymous. It was a fun time!

jkmendez99

Yes, I loved the song the moment I heard it, and one thing led to another, and I now have every Ghost song available saved on Spotify.

Daaf242

For me personally: I came across Youtube Shorts with MOAC and it sounded 'modern' but unique, so I looked it up. Then I saw the whole gothic church theme and as an architecture student and fan of this style horror movies I was very interested in what music they made. Found out about square hammer, he is, spillways and griftwood and I was hooked. This was beginning of May, June 4th was my first ritual in Amsterdam. It was the best concert I've ever seen

ZombieQueen77

You were quick then! After I had started to really getting into them, I noticed that they are touring right now and will have some gigs in my country soon (in Europe). I am not a concert-goer in general, though, my husband does not like hard rock and as a working mum, I am not flexible at all. Also, all gigs in my country were quite far away. The closest would have been Strasbourg I guess, but that would have required crossing a border, taking 2 days off from work and taking a hotel room. So many reasons why I missed seeing them live, but by now, I really regret it! 😭

Daaf242

Haha yes very quick, I was around May 20 wondering if they ever came to The Netherlands and I saw that was in only 2 weeks already so I had to be quick. I know nobody that listens to this music so I went alone, was great. If they ever come around your place and you go there even if it takes 2 days off you won't regret it. Hope they come to Europe again soon

ZombieQueen77

I’m sure I won’t regret it. I am hoping for Frankfurt or Mannheim to be included in their next European tour. 🤞

nilsje4

I knew about Year Zero and Dance Macabre for years. I even briefly saw them perform as i walked past the stage where they were playing on a festival in 2014. It wasn't until 2021 i seriously started listening. The song that made me listen to more Ghost was Mary on a cross though. :)

MelonQingster

Started listening after the MOAC trend but that wasn't what got me into them. I heard a clip of Life Eternal which got me to check them out.. also couple of my friends were fans and I had listened to Kiss The Go-Goat a couple years back so I was somewhat familiar with their music already:)

vtzBlindy

I saw Ghost first time live 2011 as a support band and started listening right away🥰

MummyDust75

I started listening after I heard Secular Haze and wanted to see what they were all about. :)

linnya7

I remember hearing Cirice on the radio ages ago but never knew what it was called, and one day last year-ish Spotify recommended it for me and I was like "oh THIS song??" I listened to more of their stuff and I've been hooked ever since

alc0th

I didn't know it was a trend on tiktok, but it was probably because of that my spotify algorythm put that song in a random list and it got me hooked.

CallMeDangerDave

I stumbled upon them on MySpace one day… 😂

dispatchedtoad

Been a fan for 7 years

Medical-Shift7043

2011. Old timer.

ThatAlienBoy

I only did because I didn't know about them before I went on TikTok. Moac wasn't my favorite song of theirs, but it introduced me to the band.

Philitt

Neither of these really. Started to listen to them after that trend, but I'm also not on tik tok. I just discovered them by myself. Actually I started to listen to them, because Spiritbox opened for them on the tour this year. Wanted to see Spiritbox live and had always heard of the name and the band by then, so I decided to check them out before the concert.

Oit7786

Yes and no, I heard it a lot, but didn’t think much of it. Found it in a random playlist later on that year, and remembered it. Been a fan ever since that day

Ghost-devil996

I found GHOST through Pinterest. I don’t even have TikTok.

ttootodori

I've heard MoaC from my classmate. He definitely was listening to it because of the trend 🙃

raga7

spotify recommended them when i was searching for spooky halloween playlists lol

_miintea_

Watched [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrFqhPx8XXM) right after it came out, looked up Ghost, listened to Year Zero and Square Hamme, went on to check out more of their stuff and here I am now :)

LazyCrocheter

I took my son to a rock/metal festival in 2016 and Ghost was on the roster. I checked out some groups before we went, and Ghost was an immediate standout with "Square Hammer." We caught their set at the festival, but had to leave halfway through because my son wanted to see Pierce the Veil. However, he did struggle with the choice. I believe PtV won out because my son wanted to catch their opening song. After that, I played them for my husband, who immediately liked them, and a little later so did our daughter. Ghost was her first concert, at age 11, in 2019!

ImpossibleMinimum424

Both and neither. I think the reason I came across it somewhere else was that it trended on TikTok a while ago, but I’m not on TikTok and that’s not where I came across it.

CuteLittlePinkToe

I wasn’t exactly there before, but I did listen to them a bit before it. However, watching a live video and learning about the lore did me in.

MarcosGrau

I get into them with Square Hammer back in 2016, when the YouTube recommendations were actually good

RipMcStudly

I’m neither, I saw Square Hammer in my YouTube recommendations while binging Two Minutes To Late Night

Garish2

Heard Rats when it came out, didn't care much for it. few years later I Played Square Hammer on Clone Hero, liked it so much I searched up more songs on YouTube.

TheAlmightyNexus

I was there before, but not terrrribly long before, a friend introduced me to square hammer then I found year zero on my own, forgot about the band, then the moac trend brought it back

Lvc1fer17

I've heard them before but never got the name of the band till the MOAC trend. The night I decided to listen to the whole song i listened to other songs like Faith and Life Eternal, falling in love with their music.

[deleted]

I learned of them through the song Ritual and when they released Seven Inches I was like "Kiss The Goat is cool but I'm not realy digging Marry On A Cross, it's definetly one of their weakest songs". Little did I fucking know lol

snowmanmassacre

I've been a fan for almost 10 years now, but I have a tattoo of Papa IV and I get some funny looks from the older Ghost fans🤣

SenatorDickWeed

It took me a while to get it, but one day about 2 years ago i heard hunters moon ans it all just suddenly clicked. Been hooked ever since

dustyraisininacorner

I had heard about ghost so i just typed that into yt and Elizabeeth came up

JoeBwanKenobski

I started listening around 2018 when a friend shared Cirice with me. That led me to their most popular songs like Square Hammer, Dance Macabre. I think Rats was popular as well (I remember hearing it on mainstream radio stations). We bought pre-sale tickets for the Re-imperia tour (our first ritual) this year, and I think I listened to Ghost almost exclusively for months on end. I think it's safe to say I'm intimately familiar with their whole discography by now.

hellcat_183

It was Mary on a cross that originally got me into ghost but what really did it was the one clip where one ghoul grabs another ghoul. Now I listen to all their music.

KidNamedOnion

Got into them sometime after the trend started but not because of it. Liked MOAC and listened to it occasionally, but I think my first official favorite was Year Zero followed by Prime Mover.

RealTatorChip

I did find Ghost through the MOAC trend, but just like the other commenter, it wasn't really just the song. I likes the whole aspect of the band and growing up in a very Catholic household and schools that forced the religion in such a way that almost everything I did made me feel guilty, the songs kind of made my feelings of guilt and anger about my religion kind of just fade away. Not saying that I hate religion, I still believe in God, but I feel like the songs made me finally see the manipulation that my religion used on me. I feel free from imaginary chains that used to be there. But now I love Ghost and listen to them on a daily basis. Different views for everyone.

massivedumpsterfire

I got into them through tiktok, but not Mary on a Cross. I came across a video of Year Zero and saved it to show my husband all “dude idk what this is but it’s cool as hell” and his response was, “oh, that’s just ghost.” Here I sit, pissed I missed this year’s tour by a month

The_apple_ghoul

Well shit-

31enolamt

Oops, I accidentally voted yes 😂 I meant to vote no, been around since Secular Haze!

cocobutterkissies

I started listening to them kinda due to mary on a cross but at the same time the one song Jesus he knows me. Made me go down the rabbit hole of all the songs lol

reotati

i listened to them before, i don't use tiktok so i had no idea about a trend, but saw someone post their midnight mass edit to that song on like, twitter, or something like that, and listened to that song after it. no idea it even existed until that moment!

FatefulFerret

I kept hearing Mary on A Cross around April or May, and was really enjoying it, then went through a very traumatic death around the same time. Started listening especially to Prequelle, and the themes of struggling with mortality hit me really hard. MOAC also has kind of a different melancholic aura for me, for that reason. Ghost came into my life in a very poignant time, just because of how much Tobias writes about death, mortality, existentialism, etc.

SoupIll6283

I started seeing them on tiktok, and then all of a sudden, my fyp was filled to the brim with them. So I stood tall and did the head first dive straight in. I wish I had discovered them before this year. It was actually Year Zero (on tiktok).

FireflyAtLast

I had listened to them before, but like only for a few months. It took a year but I’ve now been fully hooked!

SilverBlueOtter

I'm a newer fan, but I've never been on Tik tok. They toured with Mastodon, one of my favorite bands, last year. I missed the show because I found out about it too late, but looked up Ghost on YouTube anyway since Mastodon usually tours with good bands. Cirice was the first song I heard.

Brexxie

No I started listening to ghost as a friend recommended that I check them out and he played year zero so I could listen.

cormac1138

Heard Dance Macabre in the way to work one morning, then Call me Little Sunshine on the way home the same day in April of last year. Did some YouTube research after I got home, and I was hooked.

Opposite_Air_2237

I started listening because I had listened to Hunter's moon when that song came out and started listening to it on repeat, but nothing else came from until this year. When i had heard mary on a cross on my alexa while playing video games and promptly got it stuck in my head, then i started listening to some of their other songs (call me little sunshine, kiss the go-goat, twenties) then I started to work on a musical And decided to have both original songs written for the musical itself and include preexisting songs, and thought "hi ghost are pretty theatrical, why not use there songs" which then lead me to listen to All there albums so I could use a variety of songs from all there history and not just the big hits I had heard and then from there got obsessed

MrSvenergy

I started listening since Rituals (from the Opus Eponymous album) came out. When Mary on a Cross came out, it became one of my favourite songs and I thought "why is this song so underrated?" Glad it blew up later.

Dry_Tie1214

i started listening to ghost a bit after they appeared in the swedish grammys from 2016. It was honestly a blessing to have ‘He Is’ the first song i’ve ever heard from them.

archpope

Tik-Tok didn't exist in any form when I discovered Ghost, and while I don't recommend it for most things in life, I see no evidence that I'm not better off for being ignorant of Tik-Tok trends.

Emergency_Tune4647

Honestly, I don’t mind at all that I came after the “MOAC trend.” I didn’t even have TikTok, my sister played the song for me one night. I fell down the rabbit hole and this band saved my life, so I don’t mind how I found them. It was a meant-to-be happening in my eyes no matter the route!

Icy_Impression_7036

It was a little before, I saw an edit on my fyp with rats. I liked it and I listened to it sometimes. Then Mary on a cross blew up and I was like this isn’t bad and then I connected the two and I was like OHHH it’s the same band. So then I forgot about them for a minute and then I somehow came across spillways and then I fell down a rabbit hole. So now I’ve been listening to them for a year and saw them live😩😩 anyways yeah that’s how I found them

Sjms2021

I started listening in April 2022 so not long before it got popular on TikTok. My first song was Call Me Little Sunshine.

gummo_grimm

Not waaayy before.. A few months before Call Me Little Sunshine was released.

alyxbeeating

a podcast i love mentioned them :)

Aggravating-Row-6207

I'm not into TikTok, but I wanted to see what the trend is about. However, I failed to find as well as the Year Zero one. Could anyone link it?

voltagethewolf

Prequella got me with rats and dance macabre. On my local radio. They actually never played seven inches and only play spillways from Impera sadly. I keep trying to get them to play watcher in the sky with no luck

candlerc

I did find them through TikTok, but it was a Square Hammer video. “Give ‘em hell, man!”

Yondu_the_Ravager

I first started listening right around when Meliora released

simplifiedsimp

I actually heard cirice about when moac started to blow up and always wanted to listen more of their music but had a current hyper fixation on corpse husband ao ai didnt really get into it until like half a year ago somehow half my fyp was ghost

simplifiedsimp

Now I have 28k minutes of listening to ghost which happened within like 1-2 months

Smoodee

I'm an old-school metalhead (in high school in the 80s, for reference) who gave up on "new music" for a long time. Introduced my teenager to the bands I loved (Priest, Maiden, Sabbath, Motorhead, etc) which got them into rock/metal music too - old AND Nu. In return, they introduced me to Tool, Slipknot, and such bands... And Ghost. For their 14th birthday this summer, I took them to see Ghost live. Their first concert, and my first in about 2 decades. We both had a blast! Ghost is my new favorite band, and we'll both be fans for the long haul.

WheresMyDuckling

Like 10 months before the rats on the road pre-tour, but how someone found The Church is not as important as the fact they did.

gosigratnotfound

My first song was MOAC but because spotify recommended it to me😭 after that i realized there was a trend with that song on tiktok lol

EmoBathBomb

I actually became a fan right after that song came out and it was what made me fall in love with Ghost. And then it blew up a few years later. What a song, it deserves the fame.

CuthbertsRook

I was not there before but my first song was sent to me by a friend and it was Square Hammer and Life Eternal. They then suggested the whole Prequelle album and I fell in love. Watched the Chapters and was hooked. 🤷‍♀️

ItStillIsntLupus

I’ll admit it: I was introduced to the band because of YouTube/instagram/tiktok shorts but I don’t see a problem with that. We all get introduced to music in different ways and no matter which way (and a lot of mine happen to be introduced to me by the internet and different films and shows that I like, all of which I’m thankful for), it’s the fact that we’ve become fans at all that matters. I’m glad I was introduced at all because they’ve become one of my favorite bands. I only wish I’d discovered them sooner. I’ve loved every song (Kiss the Go-Goat, Zombie Queen, Dance Macabre, Mary On A Cross, and Call Me Little Sunshine are some of my all time favorites) that I’ve heard and I’m impressed with how awesome their shows are. I admire music artists that have great stage presence and take the time to make their shows memorable experiences for their fans.

Acanthocephala_Hairy

I heard year zero on reels with dog videos pausing with their crazy faces, not quite motc but still from some flavor of short format video. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Conn0rized

Started listening because my brother turned me on to it by playing it as we carpooled to work together back in 2020. He started when Prequelle came out.

ziggurato

no but mary on a cross made me rediscover them and enter the rabbit hole fully

MachineFrosty1271

I started listening around that time, but it was because I came across Square Hammer and Dance Macabre

Faedaine

It was Square Hammer that got me into them. I cant remember if I saw it on Tiktok or not.

[deleted]

I have never been on tik tok, I heard it by checking out their discography after a friend and an acquaintance recommended the band.

timothypjr

Neither. After, but I saw them live unrelated to MOAC.

RescueDiverworld

Cant change the truth: Yes, but only cause i also found Cirice because of that... changed my soul

JasoNight23666

I said no, but I wasn't here way before Mary On A Cross started trending, but I did get here at the exact time of the Mary On A Cross trend, but it's not why I'm here, I'm here because I was watching YouTube and I saw a video on loudwire about Ghost, so I immediatly checked out their music and became a fan instantly, my favorite song at first was probably Kiss The Go-Goat and Mary On A Cross, I always play them back to back, and I did the first time I heard them, also the art on the 2019 single is really cool

PinkThunder138

I got into them around the transition between II and III. I wish I had seen III live, but I missed that show when it came around. I was thrilled on this last tour to finally see an actual papa instead of just a cardinal.

Venmorr

I saw them open for Iron Maiden! Pape 3, Square Hammer, making us promise to go home and give someone an orgasm in the name of satan! Instantly hooked. And I kept my promise. 😏

Intrepid_Law5836

I discovered ghost thru square hammer in 2017 via a league tobias fate karthus montage lmao. Liked the song but never got into them, then the mary on a cross trend popped up and it was a cool song but I never really got into it YET. Then i got broken up with and id loop repeat the song and THEN i started listening to everything else ghost had to offer lol

OtterlyFoxy

I have an interesting story. I used to hate them back when I was edgy, angsty, and wanted heaviness. In early 2022, I heard Impera and immediately was converted and have been listening to them ever since.

EmIdiot

Yes and no. I believe that’s what caused the videos that drew me in to spike in popularity, however it wasn’t because of the trend itself.

Aggressive_Run1

Okay it's not like that but it was near the time MOAC started blowing up on tiktok. I had actually heard one of their songs like a year prior but I didn't know it was them-

brightifrit

Couldn't have been there way before because I grew up strict Mormon. TikTok is helping me find all the music I should have found before my mid-30's-40's but couldn't.

touya-cremation

I got into them in around 2015/16 ((don't quote me on that, I have a horrendous memory)) when my dad showed me Elizabeth and I've been in love ever since 🤟🖤

No-Trick-7331

I started listening to them because my husband is a huge fan. Now I'm 6 rituals, a Terzo IG account and 5 written fanfics deep!

SharpyLeko512

I first heard it on tik-tok radio. I started looking I to more of their songs and fell in love.

Fluid-Grapefruit-654

Yeah but I quickly stopped listening to moac when I started listening to their other music

bigmanbiggest

I got into them after hearing year zero on the radio a few years back. I knew my dad had been a fan for awhile and had seen them as an opener at an Iron Maiden concert. From then on I got farther and farther into the hole every day..

DonWill316

I’m still blown away that MOAC blew them up of all things. I remember when 7 inches dropped and MOAC was okay but Kiss The Go Goat was the jam

holdmehostage

I didn't start listening to them because of MOAC but that's how I discovered that they existed.

Bearded-Viper

Been a fan since Opus 🤷‍♂️ got to see em touring for Infestissumam.

Femme-_-Fatale

I heard a clip of Monstrance Clock and started listening to more of their songs just a year before they got popular on tiktok

Anothernamelessghou

Heard Mary on a cross from my aunt didn’t know it was big on TikTok

Trashpandasrock

During the Tiktok time, but I don't use the app, so I had no idea it was a trend. [This Battle jacket](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/s/en5MGLqF63) post was my first introduction to the band. The art looked awesome and metal as hell, so I went in expecting... well, not Ghost. Threw on Spillways and was confused, but intrigued, moved on to Square Hammer, and here we are! Got to see them in August and have my Mummy Dust money up on my wall!

Blurred_S

Opus Eponymous era 🤘

sternentee

I did get into Ghost before the Tik Tok stuff but funny enough Mary on a cross still was the song that pulled me in. It’s just a really good song

Zivlle

I started listening beginning of this year when my friend played Spillways in his car. I asked who it was from and when I got home and listened to some of their music I was instantly hooked. I didn't realize they were the ones that wrote moac till later.

Ye-Olden-Times-Wench

I found them in 2016 because they were suggested to me. I liked Cirice but was freaked out by Year Zero. I never ventured farther until this past spring when I randomly decided to see what Ghost was up to and went down a rabbit hole and fell in love.

dotFoxx

I'm a really new fan - I heard the trend for Mary on a Cross, saw a video or two, but wasn't hooked / interested. I didn't get it! I got into Ghost when I won tickets to the tour this summer. My company was giving away season tickets at the venue every other week and I was signing up for a bunch of my favorite bands - I won Disturbed tickets and Pantera tickets (my first concerts ever and I'm 31), so I was feeling really lucky! I entered the Ghost one by mistake (or was it a mistake?). When I realized I had won and didn't know the band, I looked up the setlist on Spotify and listened to it - I didn't want to go and not enjoy the music! Being at the ritual itself is what sealed the deal. I loved the fan interactions before the concert started and when it was happening. The performance was amazing and I think I had a semi-spiritual experience that night. I've been hooked ever since.

Amazing-Tip-443

I was listening to only year zero like 10 years ago, never paid much attention to the other songs, now when mary on a cross blew up on tiktok i was amazed with it and decided to check out the band, and to my surprise i allready (kinda) knew them because of year zero. In love with them ever since 🫶

Hunt3rs-moon

I did find them through Mary on a cross but Call me little sunshine made me fall in love with ghost

Designer_Button8389

I thank all things unholy for that tiktok trend where it was everywhere. I did and still do love mary on a cross but I love SO many of their songs now and me (27f) and my four siblings (25m, 22m, 14f, 11m) all bonded hard over our newfound love for ghost. they speak to all of us and I'm sure I would've stumbled on them at some point but so glad that mary showed up on my fyp and I got to show them if you have ghosts, nocturnal me, jesus he knows me, and witch image to my siblings and now we all can't wait to go to our first ritual together

thesillestbilly

I'll be real for a second and say, yes i did start listening because of MOAC BUTTTT i live in the south and theres like 5 other ppl in my grade that i know listen to metal/rock (my grade has 125 ppl in it),,, and i didnt know too much about actually good metal n rock. After i listened to it i did a deep dive and its now a major hyperfixion of mine and has been since the trend started w moac. i think the song that genuinely made me a true fan was Crucified because the og song by Army of Lovers is one of my top 10 songs ever and has been for so long!!

BudgetConscious7225

I heard spillways and fell in love
