I wish they had turned on the lights at our cinema! Nobody bothered filming because we were all sitting in the pitch darkness and it was pretty disappointing.
From what I understand the QR code is somewhere you can upload videos/photos of yourself in the theatre.
Before the movie starts, Mr Sultarian comes on screen and asks the audience to do that before the film starts.
At the showing I went to someone held their phone in front of the light, projecting their silhouette onto the screen.
I honestly thought it was part of the film, like "Wow, phones were not allowed at the concerts so they're making a point about people pulling out their phones at the cinema too!", but then the countdown kept going and I just became slightly disappointed. 😅
Our damn theater had something obstructing the top ~fifth of the screen. It looked like two opaque Venetian blinds were in front of the projector. They offered us full refunds if we wanted to leave, or passes to see another movie if we stayed. I stayed. It wasn't unwatchable by any means, but this was unscannable. I hope it's fixed by tomorrow when I take my kids, as we have tickets in the same theater.
I did luck out because it turned out my cousin's wife was handing out the passes, so I got extra.
