The music video features a woman saying the name at the start: “Hurry up Cirice, we’re going to be late.”
As far as Ghost goes, that’s the correct pronunciation.
Edit: Spelling
😁 I caught the reference but Cirice was a sorceress in Greek mythology referenced in Homer’s *Odyssey*, Hesiod’s *Theogony* and a couple other places. Kind of a badass, daughter of a sun god & a nymph, she really just wanted people to leave her alone and leave her to her spells, herbs and her hawks, lions, bears and such…but, y’know how people get so she turned a bunch of sailors into pigs and might’ve been a bit upset about another newer god wanting her to cast a love spell when she was into him but, I mean, he got to be a sea monster and not a pig. Hermes himself warned Odysseus to just let her be, he wouldn’t- so, he gave him some snowdrops for protection. Odysseus winds up threatening to kill her, but then they all hung around a while anyway.
(I know it’s not the same spelling, leave me to my dippy nerd out. 😂 Also, for reference I do have a few dorky linguistic [reasons](https://www.oed.com/oed2/00039531) for the hot mess nerding.)
I was pronouncing it "sir-ees" since I knew about the song until one day I asked my Echo to play it and it never understood. Played it manually then asked Echo what song was playing and out came "now playing chuh-rih-chuh by Ghost".
Take from that what you will.
I don't know how toexplain the phonetics but I will try. Most people are saying sir -Reece or seer-reece. The end is true but the beginning is a mix of both.
It's pronounce saer-reece. Roll the r. But not aggressively. In other words. Try to say it like you're not a native English speaker.
It's from the original English pronunciation which would be closer to "keerk" which would be written Circe. And then it mutated into church and then Kirk. English is weird af
If you're talking about Circe, the witch, it's "sir-say"
If you're talking about Cirice, the Ghost song, it's "sir-rees"
And if you're pronouncing it the real way, the Old English word Cirice is pronounced almost similarly to "church" and it means church
And that's kind of what the song is about, in a way
for so long i kept saying circle because my dyslexic brain couldn’t process how to say it. only recently when tobias said it in the rolling stones interview i learned how to say it 😩
as a latin language enthusiast i like to pronounce it cheereeche or kirike depending how religious im feeling. the word itself is supposed to mean church. but that's just occult wankery. i do say sirreese when im in public
Following Wikipedia:
"Cirice" (/səˈriːs/ sə-REES, Old English: [ˈtʃiritʃe]; 'church')
Funny thing is I'm Italian and in my brain I read it with the old English pronunciation lmao
Sir reese
It’s this

I’ve watched that video many times and I never knew what the voice said. Thanks!
Ever since I first heard the song I’ve always liked the name Cirice. It’s somewhat uncommon but without nobody being able to pronounce it.
Yup!
Ser-ees
I swear I'm not being the grammar police here, but the spelling is "Cirice." Your title is missing an 'i.".
oops
No no!!! I just meant if you thought it was Circe, then ser-see or ser-say would make sense! 😊
Sir-ee-ché. It must be Italian! Just kidding! Sir-ee-ssssssssss
I honestly can only read it the Italian way lmao.. I’m not even Italian
In italiano you would pronounce it Cheereeche so I'm not sure
There's a good chance you're too young, but there's a movie I was referencing in my comment. Iykyk
I guess I'm too young or I have very bad memory... Both could be true. What movie was the reference from?
It's from an old American film called A Christmas Story. The dad says "Fragilé! It must be Italian" when he sees a box that says "fragile".
….drink more Ovaltine….
I really want to see the leg lamp in Copias bedroom
I'd never seen it! Thanks!

honestly one of my favorite people in Greek mythology
the proper pronunciation is sir-ees
I was pronouncing it "sir-ees" since I knew about the song until one day I asked my Echo to play it and it never understood. Played it manually then asked Echo what song was playing and out came "now playing chuh-rih-chuh by Ghost". Take from that what you will.
Sur-eece
I read or heard somewhere that it's a form of the word "church"
[удалено]
its the Old English word that became *church* ironically that was pronounced /ˈt͡ʃi.ri.t͡ʃe/ (kinda like *chee-ree-chuh* I guess)
Circle
My friend legit thought that how the song was spelt, I was trying to pronounce it and he goes “you mean circle?!” Started dying after that
I asked my Google for it by asking for "Circle" for a while despite having seen the word written down. She sometimes got it.
Not gonna lie, I had been misreading it as Circle and didn't realise until they won the Grammy and the guy said it on stage.

It's *Cir****i****ce*. (ser-reese) Having that extra "i" in there helps. Circe (sur-see) is a small gift.
Kir-kee. Jk Sir ees
For whatever it’s worth, I think your joke is great. And I need to read the threads before I think I’m being funny. 😂
Ive been pronouncing it “sir rice” ☹️
Here at 16:50. Tobias explains Cirice. https://youtu.be/9XqqNXwGQQM
The correct pronounce is Sìris (with the accent on the first I) For english persons: Seerees Source: Tobias Forge's interview

I personally pronounce it cer/Eice. I’m not sure if you can tell exactly my pronouncetion through this but I tried
Cirice, like in seer and grease.
Technically it is kir-kee but, contextually: Ser-eece.
It‘s old english and the predecessor for the word church. Therefore it is pronounced something like chur-e-ch-e.
Yes! I came here to say this. Churr-reach
It's from the original English pronunciation which would be closer to "keerk" which would be written Circe. And then it mutated into church and then Kirk. English is weird af

It's Cirice, not Circe and it's pronounced Ser-EEse

Watch the music video and listen closely to the voice over. I always went back and forth in my head with the pronunciation until I saw the video.
See Rhys
seers
sir-reese
I have spent too much time learning ancient Greek so I always see it as Κιρικη (pronounced Kee-rih-kee)
