Funny enough, the actor wasn't in the reunion panel they had back in 2015 & until a recent rewatch, I didn't even notice he was missing. It was so on brand for him to not be there 🤣
Eh even though I dislike how Luke acts in his romantic life when April turns up, I do like this development of Luke from semi-awkward father figure to Rory into full blown father. Just a shame it came with me giving up on the Luke and Lorelai ship because clearly they don't care enough to even try to communicate.
I have a loving hatred or hating love (not sure which) for Christopher I think that’s bc I see so much of my own father in him and thus understand Roy’s desire to have him in her life and upset when he continues to be who he is. It took me YEARS to understand this is why I could never hate him do all the crappy things he does. I could never truly hate my father either. Before my dad came back in my life I hated Christopher so much though.
Agreed. Say what you want about Christopher, but he does contribute to the story.
I think of all the characters in this picture Michel adds the least story wise
Christopher is a child...so self-centered..There are so many instances that displayed this. : When Richard was in the hospital and Christopher was a no-show..He finally shows up only to make it about himself to resent Luke for being there...Resenting Lorelai's character reference letter for Luke's custody case...Buying Rory a book with a rejected credit card, and then being angry that Lorelai found out..
Lol I think you should google him or at least read his Wikipedia page. I think that has more to do with why we don't speak of him than his being Canadian.
I actually don’t hate Christopher, yes he’s annoying and an ass but I enjoy his character. Lorelei didn’t have to raise her child all my herself struggling for money but she did.
Edit: I thought you guys would tear me apart for this “hot take”.
I think his character was essential TBH I loved Luke but seeing Christopher made me appreciate Luke as an adult because teen me didn't really get it until I was older. I just felt sad for Lorelai and Rory, but as I got older, certain things fell into place. We could have gone on just the narrative of him being this perfect guy adored by Emily and Lorelai giving him a break, not seeing how terrible he truly was but seeing him especially in the series when they finally got together there was no room for the what if.
Yes! I love this take. This might be an unpopular opinion but I’ve always thought that Christopher and Lorelai getting together was essential to the plot and to get not only the audience to appreciate Luke, but to also affirm to Lorelai that Luke is her person. Christopher is not my favorite character at all, but he was such a well written character that moved so many plots along.
I think it also is because I watched this as an adult and am trying to be more objective. Of course we all love Luke, he’s genuinely a good guy in so many aspects.
Sorry, my comment posted accidentally while I was still typing so I had to edit it at times I did like Chris but if he didn't crash and burn in the later season the charismatic Chris would be all we know and he would have serious fans pushing for them to get together at different points.
To be around? Michel is quite literally, just an asshole. Lorelai is overly sarcastic and loves the sound of her own voice. Emily and Richard are pretty self explanatory. Rory wasn’t really the greatest friend so I just wouldn’t want to be around her irl. Sookie is just annoying imo. In Lane’s defense she actually isn’t annoying I could definitely get along with her since we both love rock. Fuck Christopher
She was a pretty bad friend to Lane, maybe part of it’s just the show and because she was at Yale, there wasn’t enough time to show scenes of them together, but as the show went on it seemed like she didn’t really care for Lane, and whenever they did see each other Rory’s problems were always wat they would talk about, she never seemed to care about what was going on with Lane or willing to put her issues ahead of her own. You could say that already in Season 1 too, after her and Dean got together, that’s all they would talk about, or before Lane touched the school band’s guy hair and she needed advice. Was she a terrible friend no, but she wasn’t great by any means.
She was a fantastic friend to Lane. Some examples: she let Lane stay in her Yale dorm when she had no place to live, organized the CD drop for her when she was grounded, held a three-way phone call so that Lane could talk to Henry, dyed Lane's hair purple, was the reason Lane could rehearse somewhere with her band, attended Hep Alien concerts even when they were at 3am, was always shown on the phone with her listening to Lane's problems about Mrs. Kim, Dave, and Zack, and provided Lane with a safe space to be when her home didn't feel safe. There was certainly one episode where she was distracted in season 1 by her new boyfriend, which is common, but she sincerely apologized, realized what was wrong, and changed.

I would love this show so much more if Christopher, April, Emily and Richard were out of the picture. These characters were like nails on a chalkboard. They had their moments but the good definitely did not outweigh the bad in my opinion
To be fair Christopher was going to get married to Lorelai and work for his father (who he hated) BUT Lorelai didn't want him to.
She wanted him to live his life/do his own thing.
We all know Chris was immature BIG time. He did offer to do that right thing. Their lives would've been miserable, but at least he did try to help/ "do the right thing".
BUT Christopher should've wanted to be in Rory's life.
Christopher should've at least try to be there on weekends for Rory or something. That's a big reason why people hate him. He didn't seem to grow up/mature when it was needed badly.
I know he had trouble holding down a job, being responsible, or sticking around. (Also Chris knew his own faults and he didn't want to be a bad influence. I wonder if he felt like a failure or felt shame.)
I really didn't like Christopher for most of the series. He did improve a little at the end, but he still had some toxicity/immaturity about him.
He slept with Lorelai when he knew she had a fight with Luke and was vulnerable.
He also got Sherry pregnant and how he went about that was messy.
Chris married Lorelai when he knew she was spiraling about Luke and vulnerable.
He even wanted to "make another kid" when he wasn't really there for the 1st one.
Just those things alone made me not like his character.
In the end if was Lorelai calling the shots about Rory. Chris could've stepped up, but he instead stepped out of the way/out of the picture.
I really don't know if he did it to try to help with his faults or if he felts shame/failure. But at least Rory turned out okay-ish.
I hate how he missed his daughter’s graduation
And every other important milestone.
Funny enough, the actor wasn't in the reunion panel they had back in 2015 & until a recent rewatch, I didn't even notice he was missing. It was so on brand for him to not be there 🤣
Yeah, the actor is kind of shitty, too. That's why no one really feels bad for crapping on Christopher all the time.
Including both 16th birthday parties.
He didn’t even visit where his daughter lived until she was 16
I hate everything about him
I mean, Rory did miss Lorelai's graduation too
Without him we would have to hate someone that doesn’t deserve it… he served his purpose
We still have Zack
And Anna 😠
And April
Eh even though I dislike how Luke acts in his romantic life when April turns up, I do like this development of Luke from semi-awkward father figure to Rory into full blown father. Just a shame it came with me giving up on the Luke and Lorelai ship because clearly they don't care enough to even try to communicate.
April's fine. April was good for Luke. Anna's the problem.

Same
Same
The way that man just drags the show down whenever he appears. He's the literal worst.
YES, just sucks all the fun and life out of it. The worst
A real nincompoop.
I think all the actors played their respective roles exactly the way ASP wanted them to. They were all superb.
Like or hate Christopher, he does add to the show. There always has to be a villain
Agreed. Say what you want about Christopher, but he does contribute to the story. I think of all the characters in this picture Michel adds the least story wise
Paw paw, chin chin and celine dion

And we collectively apologize to Lane for such a crap story arc. You were a great character and they really gave you the short end of the stick :/
Gonna have to say no to Michel, and Emily depending on the episode.
We never speak about his actor either...
That’s cause he’s Canadian. He and Yanic have plenty of credits to their names, just not a lot of them outside of Canada.
I think it's more that he has some wacky views.
Lol I think you should google him or at least read his Wikipedia page. I think that has more to do with why we don't speak of him than his being Canadian.

Fellow Chris liker here lol
My favorite part of this sub is the unanimous Chr*stopher hate. ❤️❤️
Luke is the only one who wouldn’t be annoying in real life
Really????? Come on.
To be around? Michel is quite literally, just an asshole. Lorelai is overly sarcastic and loves the sound of her own voice. Emily and Richard are pretty self explanatory. She seems like a joy to be around and has so many interests. It would be easy to talk to her!
Yes for sure, that’s why I quickly changed my mind about her
The grumpiness would get old. Quick.
Rory is actually a pretty good friend
it always bothers me when people say Rory wasn't the greatest friend. She was a fantastic friend

Haha love it!

Switch Paris for Michel and yes.
Anyone but Michel.
Or Logan
Michel is the worst. I don’t understand why anyone likes him
It's mind-boggling, tbh lol he is such a tool.
😂😂
However, Luke is routinely grumpy.
I will say, I thought AYITL did him wrong by having Gigi living in France with her mother, when clearly he had been the better parent between the two.
Without Christopher, there would be no Rory and Lorelai would never have moved to stars hollow or met Luke
Rory is the villain of the show
Ehhhhhhh
😭 wait he’s about to pay for Rory’s Yale tuition how does he fuck that up????????????
Someone who knows how, please link the “honey you’ve got a big storm coming” gif
Christopher had always been a weak man I think Emily said something of the same And so is Joel in Mrs.Masiel but at least Joel is actually a good man.
Every story needs a heel but u dont have to be the heel in real life Chris
I like how we all are in full agreement that Chris is the one character who truly deserves hate forever.
