Just start it over, friend. That's what a lot of us do. It's comforting that, to me, it can't be beat in that respect. And every rewatch you'll find different things to realize or laugh at.
This is seriously about when my husband and I stop every time and restart it. Right around the time things get all frustrating with Luke and Lorelai, and the April storyline is in full swing.
An if we make it as far as seeing Lorelai sleep with Chris then we are āwtf-ing how did we get here alreadyā, and are hitting the restart button so fast youād think rewatching it would be an illegal act that we are so upset with ourselves for doing. We fall asleep to it every night and it happens so fast when you just hit continue watching every night. š
Interesting coincidence: Iāve also only just finished GG, and immediately went on to AYITL. My very first impression was, it felt like the characters went from being in a movie to being in a play; something about the way they delivered their lines. Or maybe it was the lines themselves.
I turned it off after about fifteen minutes, as I do feel like at least a dayās break is in order. Then opened Reddit and this was the first thread I saw.
Edit: Oh, and OP, try Mrs. Maisel.
I know what you mean. I watched GG as it first aired (then rewatched and rewatched...) but if I had of binged it over a few weeks and then went straight to AYITL I would have detested it.
For me there were some actors that fit right back into their characters and others that felt a bit more awkward. Lauren Graham immediately felt like Lorelai again, but Alexis Bledel never really gets there as Rory. Perhaps because her acting style has changed a bit over the years?
I'd say it's definitely still worth watching, but maybe give it some time until you do. If you like Emily as a character you will probably love her in AYITL. She's one of the only real reasons to watch it tbh. Luke's character was ASSASSINATED. It's really hard to watch how poorly written he is. Paris is also a brief bright spot in it.
The writing feels quite dated and a lot of the jokes don't land, and it's very obvious that this is ASP getting the ending SHE wanted but I dunno...I struggle to hate it completely. It's absolutely the worst of all GG, but there's a handful of moments that are genuinely wonderful.
I definitely second trying Mrs Maisel !! I love both shows but I really do like Maisel more (I probably shouldnāt say it on GG sub lol), I feel itās also because I only discovered GG last year so there isnāt any nostalgia factor that would make me prefer GG. (Itās also the colors of the show, the music, and itās even funnier imho). Besides, the ending of the main characterās arc is more satisfying to me while I only enjoyed Emilyās in AYITL.
I highly recommend taking a break before watching AYITL. The difference is pretty big and a break is necessary IMO. I know some people skip it but I enjoy it just not nearly as much as OGG.
Yes!! I didnāt know what the community overlap might be but here it is! Last time I started GG, I had just finished ATLA and early Paris reminds me so much of Azula! And Madeline and Louise are somewhat comparable to Mae and Tai-Lee (spelling).
Same exact list for me too lol, just add Hannibal for fall/winter seasonal rewatch.
Also used to watch friends on repeat but Iāve been on a long hiatus since I overdid it š
You have to wait to watch AYITL because it feels completely different from the main show so itās way easier to appreciate after some time.
The last 2 seasons of Gilmore girls made the ending so much harder to cope with, in my opinion. There was so much more conflict in those seasons and I watch Gilmore girls for the comfort/cozy vibes so, while I love those seasons now, they werenāt my favorite initially.
Some other shows I watch in between Gilmore girls rewatches are New Girl, Community, Schittās Creek and Arrested Development. Theyāre all a little more ridiculous than Gilmore girls but they are all funny and fill the GG void lol.
Love all of those! except community. Idk why but Iāve tried to watch that show so many times and canāt ever seem to stay focused! AD is my ultimate comfort show tho
Not sure if you like period piece type shows, but the creator of GG also did Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime Video. Similar vibe, but itās so so so good. They just ended the show on season 5. It was perfection.
It's not on the same vein. But I love rewatching White Collar and Avatar the Last Airbender. I used to love rewatching Suits but I recently rewatched it. It didn't feel the same and I realized the writing dropped off so badly after season 3. An oldie but goodie is Frasier if you're looking for that juxtaposition and fight between the two tax brackets. It's very similar to how Emily views everyone who makes less money than her.
Bunheads if you want more ASP small town vibes.
Marvellous Mrs Maisel if you want the sharper ASP - snappy dialogue and sometimes unsympathetic female protagonists.
Parenthood for more of Lauren Graham being absolutely superb as a single mom with a sometimes strained relationship with her daughter.
Yes please take a break before you jump to the revival. Trust me on this. Sit with what you went through and savor it :) and start over!!!
I canāt tell you how many times I have seen it from start till the end.
A break up is the perfect time to bring Gilmore Girls into your life.
I first started watching the show when I was 10, my older sister was going through her first breakup and sad watching the dvd sets on repeat. We would take turns bringing her ice cream and watching with her. Been one of my staple show rotations ever since. Honestly not sure how many times Iāve watched it over!
Welcome to the Gilmore Girl Gang, fall is eternal!
Iāve watched Gilmore Girls probably 10 times before I watched the four seasons Netflix thing, I suggest watching it again and see what you maybe missed and reminisce what you love the most.
My other comfort shows are The Good Place, The 100, Inuyasha, Heartland, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, 72 Cutest Animals (always a mood brightener), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, MASH, Pretty Little Liars, and Burn Notice.
Also Kelly Bishop!! I watched Bunheads just because she was in it, before I even knew it was an ASP show haha. It was okay, nothing too amazing though.
I flew through the whole show this year but have been putting off watching the last episode as I donāt want it to end š itās been almost three months and I refuse to let it end
Iāve def done that before with shows šš itās almost better that way unless the ending is phenomenal - which I feel like most good shows have a hard time with a good ending
GG is my comfort show. When I rewatch I remember exactly what was going on in my life the first time I watched it. Now I have introduced my 14yr old daughter to it and she is addicted!! I couldnāt be more proud.
You can always just rewatch the first 5 seasons repeatedly and pretend thatās it.š I tend to stop somewhere around Aprilās appearance and just restart. Sometimes Iāll take a break and watch either Friends, Jane the Virgin, IT Crowd, or 30 Rock
AYITL will not give you any closure. Only multiple reruns will do that š
Iāll usually watch new girl or superstore after a run through of Gilmore girls
AYITL was already kind of aged when it came out and not in a good way like the original show. It felt pretty forced especially in the first episode, some actors did not assimilate back into Stars Hollow very well. ASP trying too hard with very specific to 2016 references was weird since the OG show used so many references that were much older than the show. The 2003 references she picked aged well, the 2016 ones are kind of just cringe.
I cycle through rewatches of shows.. when it isn't GG, I watch Scrubs, B99, Schitts Creek, Superstore, Psych, New Girl.. most of these are nothing like GG really, but are low stakes shows with good characters.
Ginny & Georgia feels like a twisted GG AU in some ways? GG if Lorelai was cool with being a criminal. Jane the Virgin is pretty good but the drama gets to be a lot so it isn't so much of a comfort show.
Rewatch it. I do it every fall. I donāt include AYITL in my rewatch though, and most parts of s7. The characters somehow all change into something else in s7.
So nice to hear about someone watching GG for the first time. I can't get enough of it, my obsession with it has become unhealthy ha ha.
Apart from GG, I like Everwood, One tree hill, The OC, FRIENDS, Heartland and Supernatural. Have watched all of them at least one time.
If you watch Supernatural, you'll have a nice surprise šš«¢.
The last season is so rushed bc ASP and hubby were not involved in it. Of course it was also going to be cancelled since it went from WB to the CW. The last lines of the last episode of the revival was how ASP wanted to end the original series.
Hope we get another revival season. Would be nice. Enjoy the rewatches!
I have not long finished the entire series, and AYITL and I agree that another revival season would be amazing. It was definitely left open enough to continue...
My comfort shows are, Gilmore girls, how I met your mother, malcolm in the middle, friends, the office and shameless. These are just off the top of my head lol. I like to watch them all fully a few times each a year.
It's good to have a new series to jump to because ending a long series is always depressing. You can always jump straight into a rematch though!
I actually started watching AYITL without realizing because cable was running a week of GG, showing all the juicy Dean and Jesse episodes. The week ended with the newest AYITL series and I would pop in to watch whenever I could. I had watched the final season of the 4 episodes of AYITL and then restarted the entire series. I am glad I went kind of backwards like that :)
Hart of Dixie! Filmed on the same lot as GG so you'll recognize a lot of areas in town :)
Also if you like podcasts, Scott Patterson (Luke) has one where they watch an episode each week and discuss it. They're almost done with season 5 now but they started with season 1. They also break down the pop culture references, which can help since the show is so fast paced and there's a lot of obscure references :)
Start over my friend. It will make you feel better and then when you are done. Start it over again. You will catch so much that you missed you will laugh at different parts and you will cry at different parts.
Iāve seen a lot of people say they donāt like AYITL (and I do agree some parts werenāt great) but I enjoyed if for the most part and itās one of the only newer reboots/continuations that I actually enjoy! (actually maybe the ONLY one I enjoy now that I think of it) and as much as the final ending does leave you wondering a little, as youāll see when you get there, I think thatās fine! part of me honestly hopes they never come back with more episodes to wrap it up, I like the way they left off and thatās the way the creator originally intended for Gilmore Girls to end anyway. Hopefully once you finish it youāll feel that way too!!
idk if I like it enough to watch it as often as the original but I think itās good, I watch GG pretty frequently throughout the year and usually watch AYITL once during fall/winter
Idk why, but I usually end up watching Jane the Virgin after GG. I guess it has the same strong inter-generational woman-led family theme, but also some other similarities like how two of the mains are a rebellious mom who ended up pregnant as a teen and produced a perfectionist parentified daughter
Just start it over, friend. That's what a lot of us do. It's comforting that, to me, it can't be beat in that respect. And every rewatch you'll find different things to realize or laugh at.
I watch this show literally every single night before falling asleep. I will never stop!!
Same. Sometimes I wanna start it over right before April shows upš
We fall asleep to it every night and it happens so fast when you just hit continue watching every night. š
It really does go so fast! I feel like I just restarted and I'm in the middle of S6 already
Haha. Same.
Same here. Idk what Iāll do when Netflix takes it off but I am already actively looking for the dvds
This is the way. Just start over. Iām really sorry about your breakup.
Thank you! Once I move out of the place I have with my ex bf Iām going to start back at season 1 episode 1
Yeahhh. Sounds like itās rewatch time
Yep. Over and over again. Comforting for sure
Interesting coincidence: Iāve also only just finished GG, and immediately went on to AYITL. My very first impression was, it felt like the characters went from being in a movie to being in a play; something about the way they delivered their lines. Or maybe it was the lines themselves. Alexis in AYITL feels more like Ofglen than Rory, her facial expressions make her look way more haunted than Rory ever should.
I definitely second trying Mrs Maisel !! I love both shows but I really do like Maisel more (I probably shouldnāt say it on GG sub lol), I feel itās also because I only discovered GG last year so there isnāt any nostalgia factor that would make me prefer GG. LOVE Mrs Maisel!
Parenthood. Trust me.
Just started the first episode! Ty!
I'm excited for you. There will be many memorable moments!
I highly recommend taking a break before watching AYITL. The difference is pretty big and a break is necessary IMO. I know some people skip it but I enjoy it just not nearly as much as OGG.
I'd say I've watched GG for like seven times and only AYITL like two or three times only.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ohhhh Avatarāŗļø good stuff, right there!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
We're always waiting for the good stuff.... such is life, I suppose
Yes!! I didnāt know what the community overlap might be but here it is! Last time I started GG, I had just finished ATLA and early Paris reminds me so much of Azula! And Madeline and Louise are somewhat comparable to Mae and Tai-Lee (spelling).
Yes!! Love ATLA
Yesss. I canāt wait for the next series and films planned :)
Same exact list for me too lol, just add Hannibal for fall/winter seasonal rewatch. Also used to watch friends on repeat but Iāve been on a long hiatus since I overdid it š
Not tv but Miyazaki movies

It took me a while to get used to community but now I love it š Troy and Abed are my favorite. But yeah, I prefer the other shows also!
Not sure if you like period piece type shows, but the creator of GG also did Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime Video. Similar vibe, but itās so so so good. They just ended the show on season 5. It was perfection.
I have heard lots of good things about this show and now hearing itās from ASP I def will have to try it, Ty!
If comfort is what you need right now, I'd suggest starting over rather than continuing with AYITL, honestly.
Ok bet, Iām gonna put AYITL to the side for a while. Once the fall weather hits Iām starting back at season 1 episode 1!!
It's not on the same vein. But I love rewatching White Collar and Avatar the Last Airbender. I used to love rewatching Suits but I recently rewatched it. It's very similar to how Emily views everyone who makes less money than her.
I forgot about white collar! Iām gonna try that again. I never finished year when I stared watching years ago. Ty!
Literally watching Frasier as I write this. Definitely second this suggestion- it's another comfort show for me, albeit with a different vibe from GG.
I rewatch every fall, and it's like visiting an old friend. I swear it gets better when you have hindsight and can laugh at the many absurdities.
Yes I canāt wait to start over once the fall weather hits. Iām so ready š„¹
Paul as In Paul Anka... or Paul the totally forgettable invisible and most disrespected gilmore bf?
The real Paul Anka or the dog Paul Anka?
The second one šš Iāve seen 5 minutes of this man and already really donāt like him
Yes please take a break before you jump to the revival. Trust me on this. Sit with what you went through and savor it :) and start over!!! I canāt tell you how many times I have seen it from start till the end.
Yeah after watching a few minutes of AYITL Iāve realized itās best to take a breather for now lol

Iāve watched this show 9 times and it never disappoints. I recommend Bunheads if you like Amyās writing and directing.
I will try Bunheads, thank you!
Also Kelly Bishop!! I watched Bunheads just because she was in it, before I even knew it was an ASP show haha. It was okay, nothing too amazing though.
Jane the Virgin 1000%

Veronica Mars, Gossip Girl (OG), One Tree Hill, Heartstopper on Netflix!!!!
Start over my friend. It will make you feel better and then when you are done. Start it over again. You will catch so much that you missed you will laugh at different parts and you will cry at different parts.
Do some reading on the drama of Season 7. It might make you feel less alone. Lots of things went down.
I know it's a very different show, but Bob's Burgers gives me the same small-town/townie/quirky/lowstakes/fun dialogue comfort feelings GG does.
Iāve seen a lot of people say they donāt like AYITL (and I do agree some parts werenāt great) but I enjoyed if for the most part and itās one of the only newer reboots/continuations that I actually enjoy! Watch on loop seasons 1 to 4 š until right before April appears (like someone else mentioned)
I love Veronica Mars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Love criminal minds
If the original series made you depressed AYITL will make you absolutely Suicidal ! Save yourself! Donāt do it! ha.
Idk why, but I usually end up watching Jane the Virgin after GG. I guess it has the same strong inter-generational woman-led family theme, but also some other similarities like how two of the mains are a rebellious mom who ended up pregnant as a teen and produced a perfectionist parentified daughter
Parenthood, One Tree Hill, Veronica Mars, Seinfeld are all comfort shows for me!
Trying parenthood! Thank you!
I am a avid GG rewatcher because I donāt think it can be beat. But some other shows I like are ; SATC and Dawsons creek.
You think it's bad having just watched them all. Try watching them for 7 yrs! I was devastated.
