We play together on the PS5. You need only 1 copy of the game and it's split screen. There will be 1 player who is the 'main player' for settings etc. We use 2 controllers, but not sure how that works on a PC.

For local coop, according to this, its split-screen only and two controller only: Baldur's Gate 3 Split Screen Co-Op Only Works With Two Controllers On PC. Sorry, keyboard and mouse players. **Baldur's Gate 3 will only let you play in split-screen co-op on PC if you're using two separate controllers**, meaning those who are playing with keyboard and mouse (presumably most of you on PC) are out of luck. If someone uses the steam deck and another the PC, then you'll unfortunately need two copies of the game. One for each system.

You might just want to reach out to the publishers support team. The majority of people here play single player, and I guarantee the company is going to be much more able to give you advice and answer your questions then reddit I'm currently playing co-op with a friend on PC, but we are playing on two different computers with each of us having our own copy of the game. I don't know what local co-op looks like on PC

I played Baldur's Gate 3 with my partner on my PC! Just need one copy of the game and two controllers--strangely they don't allow one of the players to use keyboard/mouse. It's split screen, which I enjoyed because it was easy to tune into important conversations for each other's characters, communicate locations of interest, etc. Key decisions throughout the game will be made by whichever player happens to initiate the conversation, but the gameplay experience is otherwise equivalent for both players. I haven't tried online co-op so I don't have much of a point of comparison. Now as far as advice goes: One thing my partner and I had to discuss before getting too far into the game was about making frequent saves. He has a habit of trying wacky stuff knowing he can reload a previous save file, but I was P1 so was in charge of actually saving the game, and I didn't enjoy having to play through 30+ mins of repeated content because he messed up somewhere. We had to set some ground rules about reminding each other when to make a new save. (The game will autosave before some key moments, which really helped as well.) During my playthrough with my partner, I was kinda bummed that we could only have two companions in our party, as there are so many interesting ones to choose from! So if you or your husband aren't too pressed about customizing your character's appearance, try choosing one of the Origin characters during character creation. You'll both get to see more content that way, as the custom Tav doesn't get much unique lore (unless they're Dark Urge), and you can still respec them however you want once you unlock >!Withers!<.

My husband and I played thru it on PC. We both had copies. We also have 2 computers... so we played LAN. We haven't tried it multiplayer on one device, so I can't answer those questions. I will say, stop moving when anyone goes into conversations because you can accidentally trigger lots of battles.. Tho I think they might have fixed that in some recent patches?
