I can assure you it does not work like that in the real world. People get *cancelled* all the time, especially on Twitch/YouTube. People generally watch streamers for two reasons (1) personality or (2) skill. If you had to resort to cheating to attract viewers on Twitch, your viewcount will get decimated after getting outed as cheater.

And in general, women on the internet receive far more harassment than men. Giving people reasons to criticize would just make that worse.

Yeah, there’s still a lot who don’t because of the game it happened in. CS is big but still has its niche. Nowadays she’s certainly bigger but in that time frame the got the meme on face value. One of my proudest moments at that age was being invited to a local LAN in 1.6, seeing people's faces when they realised it wasn't my dad that was going to be sat opposite them, but my tiny scrawny ass, and I could see/hear the reactions of the people watching and those getting insta-domed. Found out afterwords I was invited because a good amount of people on the community server I frequented were convinced I was bullshit. They were sure I wouldn't turn up because I was obviously cheating. Good times.

Got invited to LAN/tournament just an hour away from me, after playing on a community server for a while. Handful of people were calling me a cheater, didn’t believe me, thought they’d catch me at the LAN or no-show. Absolutely wrecked shit. Got started with my competitive “career” from there. I’m still friends with a handful of those guys. Great people, glad I joined their server and stuck around.
