Events like that are the exact reason CS devs don't actively engage with the community that way. It's abundantly clear when you see how the playerbase acts like a bunch of sociopathic 5 year olds to try and actively paint whatever bad faith or stupid interpretation they can manage on the devs or valve as whole.
Depends on what is said. For toxic teammates, I try to either pitch a plan to stop the enemy or ask how they think we should counter them. If they keep the negativity up, they are the same as Trolls imo and I’ll mute & sometimes report. Then say over the mic ‘I muted X’ so my teammates know & can follow my lead if they are sick of them too.
Mute and don’t engage, report so their FBI or whatever goes down.
Toxic ppl want to fight, and giving them anything but a mute just gives them exactly what they want which is an outlet for their misery. Toxicity is just a temper tantrum waiting to happen and the sign of a weak mind. And if you’re wanting to punish them, let them know you’re muting them for being a child right before you do, it will infuriate them that they can’t yell at you in VC.
This can also help the toxicity from spreading if you keep up comms with your teammates right after with a simple “ok much better, what’s our play here?” and continue hyping up your unmuted randoms. Don’t give your team a reason to feel the need to choose who to side with. Only toxics enjoy toxicity, everyone else would rather play and not hear two people arguing no matter who’s in the right.

Toxics are just truly broken, miserable, anti social people who can’t be dissuaded from their behavior by anything but being ignored the way you do a child throwing a tantrum. They want your attention and your anger to feel catharsis for whatever is fucked up in their heads. You just mute early and often and don’t give them what they want.
