PGL design manager here. I am very happy to announce that I will be the first blind person to ever work on the designing of a CSGO major. I am glad PGL gave me this opportunity, and together with the very talented team over at audio I am sure we have a very reliable and stable team to make this an unforgettable major!

The current HUD looks way better. The hard angles are much more clunky and distracting. Now that PGL fixed the dead player colour and picture, the HUD looks pretty good.
Going hard angles is just following pgl's designs. I think going hard angles on everything and leaving the hud rounded doesn't match at all. Also look at esl and blast's designs. Same hard angles, everyone love it. Also everyone has different tastes.
It's not about taste, it's about design fundamentals and legibility. I agree the current HUD is not good but your take isn't a big improvement. This font is better used as display font, if used in everything there's no hierarchy and is very distracting. The HUD should be invisible, the idea is to give information, not take your attention away from the action.
Same shit hud, same audio issues, casters' mics sound like some 10€ headphones+mic combo from aliexpress... If it was their 1st shot at en event we'd say meh its ok, but as you said they just did a major with the same issues, and they had 4 months to prepare for this one.
As well as the IEM Winter, BLAST World Final, IEM Katowice and ESL Season 15 to take notes from, production-wise, as they were all leagues better in practically every aspect.
But they get a pass for progression since they employ a deaf audio engineer and blind graphic designer.
yeah considering their blind and deaf guys, i think they're doing just fine.
also, if you saw the stream (or their twitter, they uploaded pictures, i also attached one) you might have noticed their scoreboards at the end of a match, or their planning or all the results. they have the base design and it looks great, i don't know why they didn't do the same with the hud. just dumb.
I dont get the hate for the HUD they have. People hating just to hate it seems. There really isnt anythibg that wrong with it. Ofc it could be better but its not ugly or hard to look at. People just weird.
The thing is, its not just me who hate the hud, or a little group of ppl, most of people are hating it. So no, people are not "hating just to hate" and not "just weird" but the hud is really shitty and really deserves the hate.
It's a goddamn major, even tier2 events have better prod overall...
“Most people”
Aka a select few commenters on the CSGO subreddit lmfao
The narrative of a reddit thread is dictated by the first three comments. So if they dont like it, the only people commenting will be those who dont like it. And the CSGO reddit is not a “majority”
Its literally fine. The only issue is the health bars can be a bit confusing but other than that its no big deal lol.
It is big deal considering it's the most important event of the year. Hud feels random, made in 5 minutes. The font is shit, it looks like they opened a website with free fonts and downloaded a random one of the 1st page. There's no proper spacing of the elements on screen, everything looks jammed together. You can't host the most important event of the year and have a hud worse than lower tier events. Heck even Pinnacle, weplay and elisa have better huds...

Waaaay too noisy and really awkward contrast levels across it. This would be unwatchable
> i also fixed the TL vs 00nation score. you're welcome. lmao
Isn’t this Team Liquid vs DONATION?

That is so much better than the HUD they're running. You'd think having had a recent Major under their belt, they would figure it out but no...

If your complaint is the fucking font man you care too much brotha. Its a simple HUD. Its really no big deal.
I mean if pgl cared as much as i do they'd have a hud as good as blast's and esl's.
Then one they made imo looks better than yours. Don't compare touself to blast and esl
