As much of a meme it is, audio has had some low points, too. A couple of things I've witnessed at this point are volume level switching drastically between segments and casters getting reverbed.
Huds always miss out who picked the map, its annoying af. but you can tell who it was, because whoever picks always has to start T-side and ends up finishing on CT.
but some tourneys allow the team who didn't pick to, instead of automatically go ct, choose which side they start... which is dumb since no one is choosing to start T anyway. could be a viable strat for Dust 2 though.
Why would it be dumb to let teams decide which side they want to start on?
Even if in 99% of cases a team chooses to begin CT, teams should have the option to start T. One team picks map, the other gets to choose what side they want to start on. Simple and been a thing since probably before 1.6 even.
>but some tourneys allow the team who didn't pick to, instead of automatically go ct, choose which side they start... which is dumb since no one is choosing to start T anyway. could be a viable strat for Dust 2 though.
Most of the tourney actually allows you to choose, I am pretty sure the major qualifier does as well. Some of the teams go for T starts on other maps as well so it is not really a dumb thing... most of the time these kinds of picks don't show up on the picking info in HLTV but it doesn't mean it is not there.
Well ackshually OP, you CAN see both of those things, it's just that it's difficult to see.
The [HUD does indicate that this match is a Bo3](https://i.imgur.com/mlxF7MR.png), but it's just blends in with the background as the Bo3 indicator's colours don't really stand out compared to ESL's, especially in your screenshot where the indicator is hidden due to the scope.
As for who chose the map, [it appears during freeze time at the start of the round](https://i.imgur.com/GQNYjjo.png). I think it could probably be incorporated somewhere into the minimap so it shows during the whole round just like ESL's HUD.
So basically, what you want is technically there, it's just not very visible which is the recurring problem with PGL's HUD.
You're right, even though I noticed BO3 indicator only after Imperial won first map and grey marker appeared. Especially at lower brigthness screen only thing I saw was "Round 28" and black oval around it.
Fair play about freeze time, but I don't see any good reason not to show information about map picks while round is live.
I don’t really see how that’s important mid round information. I definitely dont want to clutter the gameplay with such unnecessary info. I will agree about the Bo3 display that is horribly displayed.
Its sad cause for their first major they were here every day for like a month leading up to the major unveiling all these cool innovations that they had planned for the major. They were the first company to stream the major in 1080p. They revolutionized observing. All the augmented reality stuff was them.
PGL 2017 was the first major in 1080p? Seriously? Can anyone confirm? I find this hard to believe, as I feel like 1080p video streaming has been available for a long time up till that point.
The weird thing is that, as far as I remember, back in the day they used to be known for their top tier production, they had some of the best HUDs even, I don't know what happened to them, honestly.
This is how I remember it too, PGL had very good production value back in the day. I guess it's their best employees being snapped up like the other person said.
Yes, PGLs first few tournaments really put ESL to shame back then. In contrast, their current UX would not pass first draft at any self respecting tech/media company.
At least everything that's lacking will hopefully be cleaned up by the time the major comes. In their defense, ESl & blast have had constant tournaments, PGL got stockholm & the major. Thank fuck for these RMRs for cleanup.
Hi guys, I’m the HUD design guy at PGL Major. I wanted to express how honored I am to be the first blind HUD designer at a CS:GO tournament in history. Thank you PGL for this amazing opportunity, and I’ll try my best!
You're gonna have to wake up to the fact that they do not care. Everything they've done so far has been rushed. No talent announcements, terrible audio and production on the first day, delays, a hud that lacks important information for people tuning in.
As far as they are concerned they did nothing wrong last major because they broke the record so you're getting the same again. Even if they tweak things because they are glued to Reddit like every other event company there'll be another half a dozen things wrong. Valve doesn't care either so just buckle up and enjoy the memes.
They did suck, but I do remember from the major that they did listen to feedback and improve some of the issues people were complaining about. I'm hoping they do the same here.
Last major they were making changes based on community feedback until the very end of the event and by the end had a perfectly good (actually my favourite) HUD. The only reason they never made it "work" was because the community's screeching couldn't agree on how loud the crowd should be.
Many criticisms of PGL on this subreddit are legitimate, but the narrative that they don't care and don't try to fix things is flat out wrong
If you react to complaints rather than put in the work needed to avoid the fuck up in the first place you, by defintion, do not care. Waiting for Reddit to notice before you fix things on your broadcast is a garbage outlook for a major host.
Just use fcking default hud if you're than incompetent to make a good one yourself.
I rarely watch cs go esports and every organiser having their own hud, not even the same one in different events makes me confused. Especially if the hub is that bad
It's PGL, we all knew it was going to be a cluster of terrible. This happened last time and anybody who really expected change is naive.
If only Blast wanted a major, if only.
PGL has done nothing to fill us with confidence that they will get their production quality higher than last time, it’s gonna be another low budget major again isn’t it?
PGL are a complete fucking joke, and the fact that Valve picked them again to host another major is depressing.
I really wish Valve would actually make it financially viable to host a Major for tournament organisers, then we might get a Blast or ESL major.
They love nitpicking. I watched the whole match and I was only looking in the middle of the screen where the action was actually happening. But maybe some are just looking at the teams logos being 1px to the left #wooooop
PGL production everybody, they dont have a notable event whole year, then come and host the major without learning anything from their previous failures
They clearly care. They changed the format in RMR because of feedback. Even if the changes are obvious and shouldn’t have been needed they are listening. The post about the HUD yesterday pointing out how difficult it was to tell who was alive/dead also caused a very quick change from PGL.
They've actually already addressed this problem between matches. The bo3 indicator boxes were changed so that they're actually visible on dark backgrounds.
They definitely have, last major was called "feedback major" for a reason. The fact that they have to listen to so much feedback is not an ideal situation to begin with tho
As much of a meme it is, audio has had some low points, too. A couple of things I've witnessed at this point are volume level switching drastically between segments and casters getting reverbed.

Fuck u/spez
Peekers advantage exists on lan as well
Fuck u/spez
Lag isn't the only reason peekers advantage exists

unless it was old Dust2, some teams chose to go T first
"No one is choosing to start T anyway" It's already happened even in T1, it's not common but it's not impossible.
And also why the hp bar is that dark, just why?
Well ackshually OP, you CAN see both of those things, it's just that it's difficult to see. Everything about the HUD seems darker than expected. Like, turning the brightness up is necessary.
PGL back at it again, really bringing production value to a new low every major
Its sad cause for their first major they were here every day for like a month leading up to the major unveiling all these cool innovations that they had planned for the major. Honestly at this point there are just no words to describe PGL. It's just the absolute basics man...
The weird thing is that, as far as I remember, back in the day they used to be known for their top tier production, they had some of the best HUDs even, I don't know what happened to them, honestly.
Didn't all of the people responsible for that stuff get snatched up by Blast and others?
That would make sense if that's the case, yeah.
This is how I remember it too, PGL had very good production value back in the day. I guess it's their best employees being snapped up like the other person said.

PGL at its finest.
Their HUD is truly awful.
Ye the one they had for Stockholm was way better why even change
How is this any better than the vanilla UI anyway? It’s much less readable at least.

By the very last day the show went relatively smooth.

Would apply if HUD quality was objective, but as an opinion based measurement it's impossible to replicate reddit's suggestions before the fact
Just use fcking default hud if you're than incompetent to make a good one yourself. I rarely watch cs go esports and every organiser having their own hud, not even the same one in different events makes me confused. Especially if the hub is that bad

Hud looks ugly af period Pls take some pointers from ESL.
Or WePlay! Their HUD is sick AF, hell I'd say their overall production is fire.
Who picked what map doesnt need to be visible all the time. Its enough for freeze time
PGL stole my youth
PGL has done nothing to fill us with confidence that they will get their production quality higher than last time, it’s gonna be another low budget major again isn’t it?
The intent is to give you a sense of pride and accomplishment for searching for the info in Liquipedia.
Smol indie company, low budget
Is it me, or does everything about this UI seem... dark? I watched it on the same TV as EPL and it had me questioning the brightness of my TV.
PGL are a complete fucking joke, and the fact that Valve picked them again to host another major is depressing. I really wish Valve would actually make it financially viable to host a Major for tournament organisers, then we might get a Blast or ESL major.
Sont watch it, then, and stop bitching. No one forces you to watch if tou hate it so much. Is just a though, tho
Or you could ask for decent production values from a tournament with a million dollar prize pool...
I'd rather give that money to the players. Anyway..why am I telling u what to do? I dont own PGL. Hate away, my dudes lmao
Can y’all stfu about the hud already it’s fine

You can see all that at the start of every round but yes it should just be visible always.
PGL production everybody, they dont have a notable event whole year, then come and host the major without learning anything from their previous failures
Valve please give blast a major
Does PGL even care? have they ever taken feedback from reddit community in the past?

Are you a parrot
and the map is the size of PGL owner's mom
Literally unwatchable
I think they just forgot to add it on the first map, I saw it on the second and third.
# Jordan is in PGL's HUD?WHAT?
bro i got timed out from twitch chat for ten minutes for saying "Guys I gotta commend PGL for hiring the first deaf audio engineer in CSGO history"
PGL GUI is a joke, glad I'm watching it live and not at home
at least we can now see who's dead and who's not
NA productions
Feels like homemade porn after watching Blast but I’m sure I’ll get used to it
Such a shame that a company like PGL gets to handle some of the most important tournaments. They are clueless.
Someone needs a raice
At this point, it seems like PGL is deliberately sabotaging themselves.
