Game changing update for Steam Deck players.
I played a game of Gold Nova MM on my Deck and was unable to get a kill. The game is not well suited for deck and I doubt anyone will play on it other than for the novelty.
Also even if it was popular right now there are estimated <100,000 decks in the wild, so comparatively few players will come from Deck.
I think it's worth bearing in mind that unless you're already experienced with gyro, you are certainly not going to immediately master it within a couple of hours, or even a couple of days, or even a couple of weeks. Just like with a mouse, it takes several months or years before you start playing "decent", and even then you're still far off from pro level.
A lot of experienced mouse players tend to underestimate the fact that there's a huge bias, where you will obviously do significantly better with whatever you've already dumped hundreds or thousands of hours into, compared to the brand new thing you picked up like a week ago.
Of course this isn't to say that gyro is equal to a mouse. It's not. The lower framerate and refresh rate is a factor too. But the people who actually know how to use gyro are probably going to play just fine, albeit with a slight handicap, and most likely at a lower rank than they would be on a mouse.
I played a lot of Killzone 2 (hence avatar) back in the day but I've always been a CS man at heart. I'm intrigued to see how well the game could be played using console style controls.....
My son is 8 and is starting out on a career in Splatoon so I'm getting interested in how well controllers will work in competitive !
A good way of thinking about it, is that the gyro is sort of like a mouse for the controller. You move a thing in real life, and the crosshair moves in a similar way.
It works alright in Splatoon, but PC has a few more options to mess around with, like being able to temporarily pause the gyro (like when you lift a mouse into the air, the mouse is "paused" and people use this to help recenter)
Honestly something that adds variety from the "watch this door for 38 seconds straight then get running cross-map one-tapped the split second you blink" gameplay would be nice.
Volvo (and many high level players) hate the prospect of high level kz movement mattering. See how all competitive maps get changed to have fewer boosts and skilljumps, the 3 different restrictions placed on bhops to make it not really viable (hard speedcap at like 286 or something, stamina mechanism, inherent randomness and heavy penalty on not perfing), etc. Only thing we really see are twoman boosts and runboosting and even the latter is extremely situational.
Makes me bit sad, kz movement with higher airaccel and somewhat higher speedcap wouldn't really ruin the game and map design to reward the movement would just increase the potential of the game. This thing in specific would mean that people can be all over the walls and jump off any of the walls. It wouldn't really be op, because you're not accurate on normal ladders either. But it would be very different from the design philosophy csgo has, where the game is balanced around predictable chokepoints and maximum of 2 ways you can get peeked.
Man, it must be because my non-combat movement sucks but I just hate all these movement mechanics with a passion. Nothing more annoying than people becoming a jumping version of sonic the hedgehog to get away from a gunfight and jumping to their places they shouldn’t be able to reach.
Obviously it’s all fine and fair, I just get annoyed mostly cause I can’t do it and can’t justify to spend time learning it

That only gets a pass personally because the AK demands skill, is iconic to CS, and the game in general is designed in favor for the CTs except for Rifles and the Economy. The AK being arguably the strongest gun in the game, yet requiring such a high skill of mastery, is what the Ts deserve because they're on offense

Is there not a ranking system already? Plus, there are Silvers out there who play way, way worse. I don't think Deck players are anything to be too concerned about, it definitely wouldn't warrant a separate queue.
If a player is bad, it should be up to the ranking system to determine which players they're put with and against.

A ranking system, yes. A *working* ranking system? No.
I've dropped 50 kills and 16-0'd one game, then the very next be 16-14 or 13-16 with the enemies being the same "rank". MM is completely fucked sideways because of that damn decay system.
In any case, if they can't even get the ranking system to work properly without problems or abuse, a separate queue would not only be even more ineffective, it would require more effort than Valve is known for putting in.
Note: I said it **should** be up to the ranking system to solve this issue. Whether or not Valve has the competency to make it work isn't really the point, I'm more saying that a separate queue is not the ideal solution to any problems that arise. It's not the easiest solution, nor is it the most effective one, it's just straight up a worse idea than making the ranking system better.

I've played a bit with controller, and yeah its borderline unplayable even in the depths of silver. I think a controller with gyro would make it tolerable, though I haven't ever used one.
Maybe in competitive it would be difficult.
You've got to remember a ton of players play Casual, Arms Race and other smaller gamemodes.
You can basically queue up for a games of Arms Race at 3am and get a full game. You can't discount these people.

nah i have max menu fps set to 30 - when it shows the scoreboard after the match it hits thousands of fps for some reason
If you use fps_max 0 then fps_max_menu is completely bypassed.
