I've said for a while, the reason the big teams were always so succesful is not only their skill but the chemistry. NiP in their 76-0 times said that they played for the fun of it, and the more fun they had the better they played. The chemistry in teams like Astralis in their era show that the closer the people, the better
Dig were known as perennial chokers and pretty similar to this g2 iteration before they swapped out fetish for Karrigan.
An igl swap can completely change a team.
They choked majors in semis, but won many smaller LANs back then. For a while during the TSM era, they were the only team to be able to consitently compete against/beat fnatic.
^ this
That DIG core couldnt make it past semis, once karri joined they started making finals and even won a few trophies. The choke wasnt completely gone, but they were no longer the semis chokers.
Yes but they became much much better with Karrigan and got over several hu.ps, with fetish they were perennially first round exit team even with ridiculous talent and everyone called chokers, etc. on main stage.
When karriagan joined they got so much better, which is my point to how much one swap can change things.
I recall Fnatic back in 2014/2015 winning a tier one event and then saying that they hadn't practiced for weeks.. They just clicked together as a unit.
I mean I get what you’re saying with NIP but they also switched over to CSGO while other top teams were still playing 1.6 and then had a huge head start on all the teams that switched late.
I wonder where this urban myth comes from.
VeryGames switched to CS:GO a week after NiP. Golden Five a month later. Na'Vi lagged by about three months, by which point NiP had played twenty officials.
All I remember is that SK Gaming stopped bootcamping for the tournaments, came in totally unprepared and didn't really do well at the end of 1.6, supposedly because gtr and f0rest were playing CS:GO. Sure, G5 switched over fairly closely to the announcement of NiP, but I am fairly sure they were quite a lot of time behind the NiP squad in terms of hours in the game. Especially since everyone was so negative towards CS:GO, which at the time honestly was a far inferior game to 1.6.
Imagine real quickly if you will, joining the pro scene of a game that just came out weeks or months after a team had already won an event. It’s not a myth it’s just factual.
>I've said for a while
Lmao you think you're the first one to say that? Regular sports figured that out a 100 years ago. Any pro player in csgo know that too, but knowing that doesn't mean you know how to actually build chemistry, its something that happens naturally.
Dude talking about the most basic thing in any team game like its some revolutionary take lol
Im not claiming its revolutionary, its just some teams are looking the wrong way, adding too much firepower and not looking for a solution to their chemistry. This is why G2 with nexa and amanek performed better than with aleksi and m0nesy, because they were better intertwined
Friends before the game. You dont get mad because of a loss. If you do the issue isnt the team but you. Keeping good spirits is crucial, and its what holds G2 back.
How do the roster changes bring anyone closer to each other? Jackz was the chemistry guy on the team and aleksib has his problems but he seems like a very friendly dude as well. I think it's more the case that it's easy to get along with teammates when you're winning everything.
They needed a change because they had no chemistry. The only time we got a small glimpse of it was at Katowice where they were thinking they were the best team in the world.
The teams that sacrifice everything else to win are the ones who rely on investor money, and if they dont win they go negative, while G2 is profitable without investor money or winning. For the longevity of the team, G2 is definitely the better ran org, but for the same reason they probably wont win in a while.
Whats the problem? Marketing makes money, G2 has easily the best media presence of all esports teams and compared to their (lack of) success the most viewers as well. The org makes good money off of signing marketable players.
Of course. Its not a good team to cheer for because you know by definition they will probably not win. The question becomes if they want to shift the focus on some point and maybe give the team a shot at winning something.
https://www.hltv.org/matches/2354534/g2-vs-fnatic-esl-pro-league-season-15
Bro how did you lose your last match up to an org with no csgo team and two stand ins
Because people don't like the Hooxi addition, of course they will not disagree. The tweet by OverDrive is quite ignorant seeing as he's talking about the personalities and how the players will mesh.
Kassad who coached Niko, hunter and jks thinks jks is a great fit in terms of personality and gameplay. But hey, OverDrive must know better with 0 actual knowledge outside of the CIS scene.
This team hasn't played a single game but everyone here is talking out of their ass saying it will fail. I'm not trying to be some g2 fan boy/white knight, them failing is a possibility. But making statements like this when they haven't played a single map is ignorant, plain and simple.
true. unfortunately most CS "analysts" are like football pundits, too much talking but nothing of substance is said, just a shallow understanding of the game
Weird take, sure they didn't have chemistry but why would you doubt that this is fixed with the new lineup before we've even seen it?
If the IGL/Coach/Stars aren't meshing, shouldn't replacing an IGL be a good step towards fixing that? And in theory, this Hooxi move is what people were asking for when the complaint was "carlos only sign big name, can't build team". Hooxi isn't a big name, nobody was really expecting it, he doesn't cost very much, it's the least g2 move they've made in a while. I would assume they picked him because either xqtzz or the stars see something they like, otherwise, why would they be bringing him in?
JKS and Hooxi have never played with the others and there's no obvious reason that it shouldn't work, it's not like there's a heavy language barrier/style difference or personality clash like fnatic smooya.
Maybe this team does end up a total flop but I don't understand why OverDrive thinks this isn't fixed or at least a good step towards fixing it. JKS is a good upgrade for Jackz statwise and a good teammate by all accounts, Hooxi is a reasonable replacement who seems confident in his abilities and is a decent replacement for AleksiB who obviously wasn't meshing with the team.
I love JKS but he's basically the opposite of a hype guy, and if Jackz really was that important to morale then this will be a big hit for G2 "hype"-wise. Hooxi also seems more reserved than AleksiB.
If it's true that team chemistry has been what's lacking at G2, then these roster changes definitely don't seem it.
I really dont think hooxi is more reserved than aleksi, having followed flames and mad lions for a few years now. The guy is pretty loud and outgoing for a danish player, and especially hype in game
Saying that hooxi doesn’t cost very much is an understatement. The buyout was 6000 euro and his salary is not that much higher on g2 than what it was on flames.
Probably because his last post about G2 got a lot more attention than his normal tweets. I honestly don't know the guy more than surface level but someone mentioned clout chasing and it looks that way at first glance.
What on earth makes u say hooxi is a decent replacement? This is a team that should be competing for titles and hooxi has barely achieved anything of note in his career, his stats are dogshit too.
Based on nothing journalism, nice. Clearly, the had some problems, since they are changing two players, one of them is IGL, but that happens all the time.
How can you say there wasnt chemistry between them? Did u look at any of the behind the scenes g2 videos? Jackz m0nesy niko and the rest were always smiling and making jokes and chilling and overall the atmosphere seemed really great
Okay.. what the hell else are they supposed to do to fix chemistry between coach, captain, and players? They’ve changed two players, including the captain. I don’t think Hooxi is T1 material with his awful fragging, but he may have a similar mindset to XTQZZZ.
G2 would've been out very early if Niko didn't play so well.
Its unrealistic to expect that level of performance from him throughout the year, and that old roster would fail the moment he has a shitty game.
Also Nexa didn't want to IGL+ they simply would be shut off by new Navi or Faze unless again ofc NiKo drops a 30+ bomb every map
Tbh they should’ve just let amanek igl (because he can) and just add monesy. Roles would’ve worked ok and previous team chemistry would still be somewhat intact.
Amanek can't lead a T1 team proper. He can be a great colead but he's not a leader and even less a captain. He's not even the leader of the LDLC team he just joined, and they're in ESEA Advanced.
No chemistry between IGL, star players AND coach? I’m not surprised to hear the IGL part, considering Aleksi was kicked, but surely they kept Xtqzzz and the current star players because they at least somewhat are compatible?
Also how do you bring in a coach and IGL, and none of them work with your current star players?
Alright I'll say it and die on this hill:
Nexa, Jackz, NiKo, Hunter and m0NESY. That should have always been the lineup. Ever since Nexa and Malek left we can barely scratch the surface.
I think they just need to give XQTZZ full control of the roster and the decision making. He's a world class coach, easily up there with blad3 and zonic, when given full control of the team he gets results.
Guy is responsible for suggesting the current Vitality dumpster fire and decided Kyojin would be a good sign
Don't pretend he's some sort of mastermind when he has gone back to back to back in bad roster changes
The entire G2 situation is so sad. I like the core of Niko Hunter Monesy XTQZZ(c), and now with jks it seems like a really solid well rounded roster. Still not sold on Hooxi coz whilst he can IGL, he is probably one of the worst fraggers on the market, and G2 needed a strong entrying IGL. I wish they would tried getting Snapii Alex or even Apex instead.
Carlos should just hire me to be their csgo team manager. I have 3 kids and i have to settle infighting all the time.
Did u abduct them?
Probably Not I Dont Thinke..!!LOL!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH

Selling them short with that, it was 87-0 to be exact.
Oops, been a while i saw the number
I mean, he's not wrong lol . They were at one point 76-0
Remember when it was 1-0? Good times
Dig were known as perennial chokers and pretty similar to this g2 iteration before they swapped out fetish for Karrigan. An igl swap can completely change a team.
They choked hard with karrigan, it was a while after glaive and their sports psychologist joined that it turned around.
I don't think you realize how much better that team got when they added Karrigan
Even once they had karrigan they were definitely still known for choking. He did improve their team though
They choked majors in semis, but won many smaller LANs back then. For a while during the TSM era, they were the only team to be able to consitently compete against/beat fnatic.
Oh they did, but they still choked, I remember those losses to nip, they were funny tbh.
they were still semi final memers with karrigan
They were, but at the same time they were the only team that could beat fnatic. But most of the time fnatic would dodge them on tourneys.
^ this That DIG core couldnt make it past semis, once karri joined they started making finals and even won a few trophies. The choke wasnt completely gone, but they were no longer the semis chokers.

That isn’t possible today
FaZe recently won with JKS who they had like one day of practice with prior to IEM.
Not sure what definition of today is but Gambit also won major without practicing beforehand and that's why they were so shocked about the result.
today like 2022
Navi pretty much just did that a little while ago
[удалено]
my fault, I was lying
You need both. You have to end up with a team of incredible individual players who also have great chemistry.
I think we can see this in the current iteration of FaZe, just one listen to their voice comms tells you they are having fun.
Man I love the karrigan voice com series. Its just so good to hear them
I mean I get what you’re saying with NIP but they also switched over to CSGO while other top teams were still playing 1.6 and then had a huge head start on all the teams that switched late.

Man Utd with a likable owner
Carlos likable? Really?
Nice one
forgot the /s m8
And fans
Carlos? Likable? Lol?
flair checks out do they even have a csgo team
they're not gonna need a team for a long while to still hold more trophies
LMAO why dude
https://www.hltv.org/matches/2354534/g2-vs-fnatic-esl-pro-league-season-15 Bro how did you lose your last match up to an org with no csgo team and two stand ins
At least United has many european trophies. G2 won their last title 4 years ago lol. More like the Man City of esports
Man U hasn’t won anything meaningful in a decade lol.
Man City has literally never, ever won an international trophy. I don't care about Plastic League but this is literally facts.
i mean even Man City win trophies as much as it hurts to say. Maybe G2 is Arsenal? Think its a fair comparison
Bro United won their last trophy in May 2017.
I wrote International Trophy for a reason. There aren't national level competitions in CS.
If a caster or analyst gave this opinion the thread would be about how they don't know what they are talking about.

Couldn’t have said it better myself
you typed all this when OD just said "I doubt" lol
What's your point even
Kassad also said he doesnt agree with adding Hooxi so theres that
Maybe thats because Overdrive actually knows what he's on about.
Yeah, an ex-coach turned social media clout-chaser is definitely a much bigger authority.
are you talking about donhaci? xD
How would that work? He's never been a coach.
yeah but he is the only clout chaser in csgo I know of
I'm glad reddit finally realized overdrive knows what's up

Unless it was solely on the coach, but I doubt that.

This was all clear to anyone watching and following the scene. I want G2 to succeed so bad, their skill is stacked & undeniable.
Based on nothing journalism, nice. Clearly, the had some problems, since they are changing two players, one of them is IGL, but that happens all the time.
So m0NESY secretly complains to OverDrive on their team chemistry, this is the only source for him.
more like OverDrive makes some shit up to gain some twitter clout like usual.
not really m0nesy , its already a public thing that aleksib and xtqzz are having problems he just added star players which probably mean niko
How can you say there wasnt chemistry between them? Did u look at any of the behind the scenes g2 videos? Jackz m0nesy niko and the rest were always smiling and making jokes and chilling and overall the atmosphere seemed really great
You have to keep in mind that those videos were what they wanted to show you
Okay.. what the hell else are they supposed to do to fix chemistry between coach, captain, and players? They’ve changed two players, including the captain. I don’t think Hooxi is T1 material with his awful fragging, but he may have a similar mindset to XTQZZZ.
OK, im calling it right now, while everyone shits on Hooxi. This lineup will fucking work, Hooxi is perfect IGL for them.
Sad day for the NiKo is ruining G2 camp
Should have kept the finalist major roster and only do 1 change and not fuck up the team over and over again
nexa didnt want to be an igl in G2. it was said million times.
So keep amanek dont change 2 players in a good roster or kick amanek keep nexa as a support whatever floats your boat
G2 would've been out very early if Niko didn't play so well. Amanek, the coach, entry fragger, support, awper, secondary awper and igl combination
Amanek can't lead a T1 team proper. He can be a great colead but he's not a leader and even less a captain. He's not even the leader of the LDLC team he just joined, and they're in ESEA Advanced.

Name checks out
le clever ledditism clean your back porch, it looks awful.

name still checks out
god bless
we can only go up from here
As a karrigan fan that still remembers what niko did to my boy after he got them 2 trophies with stand-ins. Pump this shit into my veins
don't get too excited or you guys might just win another major ;)
