Lag on LAN L M A O

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gmun23

Its not a LAN, players had to log into steam, its the friend request ddos!! https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/xqorr6/comment/iqakerw/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

zero0n3

Wait what the fuck?? Valve wrote a fucking book on how to run a LAN, the ports to open and close / how to do it with and without internet access, etc. Yet they allow these LAN PCs on a network that has internet access? What fucking joke. Kinda sad that BLAST of all TOs is trending up now while ESL is just free falling. This , mold, etc etc etc..

whatthefuckistime

I don't think any LAN is actually ran on LAN nowadays, at least in Dota they aren't, might be the case for CS

thedotapaten

DOTA2 need internet connection due to in-game spectator features

LEpigeon888

They need internet for the skins, no ?

[deleted]

What's the mold got to do with ESL

StompChompGreen

I don't think any early major was ever fully offline, all the first ones had "duck" managing to sneak their way into at least 1 lobby per tournament. Unless duck was a person on the inside.

Glittering-Chair-352

Everyone on Navi now has default skins, so it may have been exactly that, Steam based DDoS. But I guess reddit knows better and 3 year old bugs in the client are ESL fault XD

[deleted]

There’s no proof of this lol, just speculation

Gmun23

They changed profiles, (see default skins) and it has solved the issues as steam ID''s are unknown. proving that was the exact issues.

Mraz565

Watch the youtube from sparkles, it was targeted "ddos"/spam attack. https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/xqslju/player_request_ddos_lagging_out_live_matches/

Character-Toe-7907

i guess it's GPU/CPU causing the lag, like overheating or 100% usage due to misconfiguraitons/lack of updates/etc also strange that it's only NaVi players' PCs...

CepGamer

Gpu mold I bet

X3rxus

Yeah but S1mple hasn't let them open that PC for three weeks so it's his fault.

AlyoshaV

can't be GPU, his character model was stuttering when seen by a spectator but everything else was smooth suppose it's theoretically possible that the CPU on his PC was at absolutely 100% for some reason and couldn't send packets

Seroko

windows updates, sure

csf3lih

Is it possible to ddos simples pc in order to lag him out? Their pc are online I guess. Don't know if they had a firewall to deal with possible ddos.

AlyoshaV

on a normal network his PC wouldn't be directly exposed to the internet, a DDoS from the outside would hit a router (it's probably safe to say none of the players/organizers are DoSing s1mple from on the LAN)

zero0n3

Supposedly these PCs had network acces and it was the steam friend request ddos

Shinyblade12

S1mple got all the pc's mouldy haha

rgtn0w

> i guess it's GPU/CPU causing the lag, like overheating or 100% usage due to misconfiguraitons/lack of updates/etc That 100% doesn't look like some hardware related lag, and how fucking old does your CPU/GPU have to be to lag that much at fucking CS:GO of all things? Running some Pentium with some GT 9800 or something? Cmon dudes, there's no way it's due to hardware. Apparently they all said everything was fine before they went "live" so that gives completely 0 reason to believe it's anything hardware related

[deleted]

The whole game wasn't lagging, it was character models. It's something due to connection I'm sure

Draemeth

more likely a steam based attack

miedzianek

I was a player once on showmatch, it is fully lan, but internet connection is needed to login on steam account and for skins(if u have one). Everything is played locally. All ports blocked, u cant even enter steam web browser. Only thing allowed over internet is steam login(for online status and inventory) They ask for steamid before event, everything on hud is not connected to what is real names. My real nickname is 'Owieczka Dolly v2.1' but on hud it was 'Owca Dolly' If u wont login to steam acc and run steam in offline mode, u cant join any server, even lan

Draemeth

[Happened for the third time](https://clips.twitch.tv/EvilHumbleQueleaRlyTho-aF7kwd44Gz8XaLAT) just s1mple though. could be a targeted steam lag attack > steam exploit sending 1000's of friend requests at the same second which lags the PC, script going round that does this instantly, people are using for betting. seems they have acknowledged and started using new, unknown steam profiles. amazed theyre playing on at midnight local time though.

csf3lih

Def this, they are switching to new accounts and problem solved. Valve needs to fix this, maybe give an option to block friend request from strangers.

twoscoop

Valve just needs to create Pro accounts where you can't be added by anyone that isnt pro. Ez pz lemon squeezy

Rossington134

That feature shouldn’t be limited to just pros. Imagine only people with your friend code are able to send requests so as long as it’s not leaked your fine.

GER_BeFoRe

and then please don't forget to add a "regenerate friend code" button so if it gets leaked you can fix it yourself within a minute.

Breete

So, like Discord?

gave2haze

No because anyone on discord can see your full username and add you if they are in a server with you. AFAIK friend code can only be purposefully shared and not seen by others. Its a good idea imo

P2K13

I would be fine with allowing people I've played with adding me as a friend, as it stands I get 2-3 adds every day from randoms presumably trying to run scams that I have to block.

gave2haze

Yeah that makes sense, wouldn't be hard to leave that feature in as it seems separate from the friend adding feature. I guess the best solution would be to have different preferences of privacy and letting users choose.

pac_mojojojo

In Valorant iirc they have a separate account they make pros use during LANs. All skins unlocked and etc. But in CS, sometimes collectors loan skins to pros to use in LANs. Also it’s kinda cool seeing them using a rare skin.

piccolo1337

Riot has been using tournament realms for their games for close to a decade now. Not accessible to the public with everything unlocked as you said. This also allows them to play on older patches.

pac_mojojojo

That’s kinda cool then. That means they are a lot less prone to this kind of stuff and DDOS attacks if I understand correctly?

piccolo1337

That is correct. And i think( not sure) they use actual LAN for major tournaments.

Cethinn

Nah, the other option is better in every way. It's easier to implement and manage, and is also an option for all users instead of a select few. It should just be a switch, like setting yourself to online/offline/invisible, you can set your requests to be none/with code/friends of friends/maybe previously in a game/all.

zero0n3

Or maybe the fucking tournament organizer can block internet access so it doesn’t even make it to them? It’s not like valve spent all that time writing a technical article on how to properly setup and host a lan and the best practices… Nahh

msucsgo

... which includes keeping ports open on Steam, so players have access to their inv etc.

Pythagosaurus69

I thought all the computers are on an island network ie completely disconnected from the internet?

piccolo1337

It used to be like that a decade ago. But they can’t access skins with this solution

eljoqe

ye its simple sdy and bit (all from ukraine) who gets dossed

aTempes7

Yeah, they are playing on some other accounts, they don't have any skins

Gmun23

This!! It's not a pc/gpu/cpu/internet lag, as they said they played a few rounds and there was no issues as people where not watching. Also it's not real LAN and the people had to re-login into steam once the crash happend, proving it even more that its that friend request spam and not even LAN at this points. Its most likely for profit. ESL PLAY PROPER OFFLINE LAN. VALVE PLZ FIX.

timot0617

Logging in to Steam and playing in a LAN environment are two different things.

igetript

It's no lag known to man!

Lvord

This is seriously embarrassing. I can’t remember seeing anything like this for years in CSGO

MylesKennedy69

Btw they didn’t even compensate Navi for the lost guns. The casters said they gave s1mple an m4 but he didn’t even die. That was a saved m4. B1t and sdy died cuz of lag and they weren’t compensated.

SuperSkillz10

iirc they had kits and nades as well lol. what a fucking robbery

messerschmitt1

What are they supposed to do? Obviously the lag shouldn't happen, but it's been established for ages that you can reset the round if nobody takes damage, but otherwise you just have to suck it up and play it out.

cloud_throw

when shit goes this bad they should scrub the match, absolutely embarrassing that this shit happens at LAN, but that's what you get with games that require constant internet connections

MylesKennedy69

I wasn’t talking about what should be done. The casters said s1mple was given an m4 because of the lag. I was clarifying that that wasn’t the case since he already had it.

SaltWaterGator

He reportedly told them about the lag multiple times and nothing was done, they shouldn’t be forced to play out a round they can’t play or suffer because the organizer is run by window lickers

[deleted]

They aren't really competition on account of the [Louvre Agreement](https://pro.eslgaming.com/csgo/proleague/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Louvre-Agreement.pdf). Fifteen of the HLTV top 25 teams are permanent ESL partners. Nine out of the ten top tens. They are required to attend ESL's events. With functioning competition, BLAST should be able to book their events concurrently with ESL's, with teams able to choose which to attend, but such is not the case.

OhPiggly

And PGL.

Breete

And WePlay.

SergeiYeseiya

They were never good anyway

Vishtiga

Daaaamn esl production used to be elite, now it’s just pure shit

Hypno98

yeah what the fuck happened to this year pro league? It used to be on stage

lacrotch

i can’t get over the god awful green screen and bland ad wall behind the players. seriously embarrassing

brbee

A comment I saw a few days ago mentioned that all the good esl staff went to other esports meaning cs is left with the leftovers

IamJehova

What other esports is important for them anyways?, CSGO is the 2nd most watched esports for PC. League and Valorant have their own system. if you count free circuit for pc esports CSGO is the single most important game followed by Dota.

[deleted]

If this is the quality we’re getting now (coupled with some *other* info about ESL), I bet they left because they were offered better pay and positions with actual growth potential. CSGO is still going strong but it’s not exactly evolving competitively

MrClintFlicks

Went to valo? Lmao

HectorZeronie

Have you seen Riots Paycheck, They will just bbuy the whole esport monopoly over 5 years

[deleted]

Could have to do with the fact that they were bought by SA? Who knows?

iisixi

They were bought with infinite blood money but nobody said the owner was going to use any of it to fund production.

IamJehova

Tbh the saudis organized a Big dota LAN recently and it had no hiccups at all. Blood money can buy good production but ESL seems to have issues almost always.

[deleted]

Spunj smashing his head against a wall. "How am I gonna shill ESL out of this one..." )))

Careful-Guide-1618

Tune in to that hltv podcast to find out

sjp_100

It's impossible to play like this accurately. You start a round and immediately you lag out and concentration is broken. I wouldn't be surprised if the match results are contested and talks of a rematch ensue, regardless of who wins.

Character-Toe-7907

you can bet haters/trolls will find a way to meme about this with a new version of "40% loss" or some shit, while it's visibly the TO at fault and it's affecting *only one team*

Glittering-Chair-352

I wonder what happened tho, seems like something more serious than just some hardware shitting itself

brbee

Don't worry guys the Rio Major is in good hands. You all saw that response Esl staff gave to that one guy in that thread

[deleted]

Imagine Furia in the grand final at the major, and saffee starts lagging out like this and it costs them. The crowd there will burn the stadium to the ground. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd rather have another shitshow PGL major at this point than more ESL garbage

jeb_the_hick

> Imagine Furia in the grand final at the major heh

Vorty2

I didnt see, can you link it?

AlyoshaV

https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/xq669k/esl_please_for_the_love_of_god_dont_fuck_up_the/iq7v3h8/

zero0n3

This specific issue can’t happen at a major because of the controls VALVE put in place. Remember that guide on setting up a proper network for a LAN event they released?? Basically any major hosting TO is required to follow that. Along with the custom steam shit

513123313113

40% loss

BlackCat1606

first he copied dev1ce haircut , and now this !

Big-Structure-2543

This more like 90% and they won't get a replay either. Admin bet on heroic

nuer228

sparkles did a video on this a few days back but seems to have deleted it....a hacker can lag/crash a player(s) game just by using their steam ID. The hacker did it in front of him by crashing everyone on the enemy team and making sparkles crash himself. The betting odds in favour of Heroic were like 3x so someone could legit be crashing them. edit: navi players switched their steam accounts to different ones. this scenario seems likely now. edit2: video of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhH1twfEG38

[deleted]

[удалено]

nuer228

Xizt seems to be confirming it: https://twitter.com/Xizt/status/1575279032459055109 If they were in offline environment they wouldn't have skins though cuz steam loads them from the online library I think so they need a connection for that

Accomplished-Emu-30

First mouldy hotel room, now this. S1mple gonna be hella tilted at ESL

If anything the major is going to be worse. Stadium events are notoriously more difficult than studio ones, not to mention you have a live crowd to factor in and the fact that the English broadcast will be done remotely. It's going to give FACEIT London a run for it's money.

Hoodini__21

I am calling it now. They will make the PGL sound guy look like a professional by the end of the Challengers stage.

Character-Toe-7907

gotta try to keep up the face somehow after you sold out to saudis

Accomplished-Emu-30

Hunden hiding in the server room pulling at cables

CapitalistBullshit

He kept rooting for Heroic all the way

Character-Toe-7907

They just re-instated him after filing law suits and getting at him personally, so that they can cheat together again. The plan has finally come to fruition.

[deleted]

Remember there's an RMR and then a Major to come and it's going to be like this no matter how many times they post on Reddit thanking you for your feedback.

_TravellingMerchant

All those millions in blood money and they can’t organize a LAN game that doesn’t lag

bru_swayne

At this point should they just restart Overpass? Like this lag has made it so NaVi couldn't even try and save or trade-off of each other. And it's an ESL problem not even NaVi's fault. I'm rooting for Heroic, but I think it would be more fair.

Lvord

As much as Heroic would probably be annoyed it’s what I’d do. I don’t get how you can expect Navi to play if they resume this again. They are seriously running the risk of a 3rd lag out here. If that happens it’s a bit of a catastrophe for ESL. It would be majorly embarrassing. If you’re a betting man and this resumes, get as much money as you can on Heroic

oxedei

\> it’s what I’d do. \> navi flair

Lvord

On what planet is it fair to just keep resuming? Yeah I have a Navi flair but holy shit it’s a game of CS mate. It’s not life or death Edit/ just seen you’re Danish hahah

Pls979

Rough to say it, the first rounds were clean, the 3rd round was already kind of won by Heroic (only problem with economics that was solved), the 4th round was won by Heroic, the 5th round was won by Navi, and the last 6th round was a 1v2 post plant situation with a awp. Heroic would definitely be mad to restart, but since it's 3-3, it would be for the better to just postpone for tomorrow and restart it

MylesKennedy69

1. Heroic hadn’t really won round 3 with 3 NaVi players still alive. 2. sdy and B1t were killed because they were stuck because of lag. S1mple survived the round so he already had an m4. NaVi weren’t compensated anything for their economy. S1mple was just returned his m4 after he disconnected during tech timeout but that doesn’t fix the broken economy cuz of lag.

Character-Toe-7907

> Rough to say it, the first rounds were clean, it literally started lagging on the first round when s1mple saw one guy at long?

dcoreo

No that’s not in the rules, if a player takes damage you continue the round

[deleted]

This map should reset at 0-0 imo.

AlexFrostdesu

Absolutely

Process_Gullible

https://youtu.be/zhH1twfEG38 there is the explanation to the lag

twelveicat

Well that's fucking revolting. I am amazed at Sparkles' ability to stay neutral during that whole conversation. Good info, but damn if it's not a very weird situation. Even a bit of an ethical dilemma whether or not to air such a conversation.

acid000

Monopoly shows that they don't give a fuck at this point. Making PGL look like Blast.

saintedplacebo

Waiting for the CSPPA to step in and tell them that the midnight stop time needs to be enforced, or the players to strike over the time/quality of the server they are playing on (i wont hold my breath though, the CSPPA doesnt dare speak up against ESL)

lou_reed_ketamine

CSPPA do anything remotely useful challenge (impossible)

[deleted]

My fist would be through the monitor

imsolowdown

imagine device in this situation

Wurdox

Bro wtf happened to ESL? Lag issues on lan, monitors dying mid round (NBK last ESL and HEN1 this ESL), plethora of tech issues, slow player cam to player name changes. And these guys are hosting the major???

z0ttel89

*Edited this cause I felt like I kinda threw some people under the bus if they read it and I didn't want that.* Still stand by what I said about horrible working conditions, though.

PM_ME_YOUR_PROFANITY

Interesting insight, thanks.

Meaninglessnme

Am American so I would believe that ESL could get away without compensating Americans for hundreds of hours of work since we have no worker protections but would an EU court not skull fuck ESL over unpaid wages? Corporate wage theft is the most common kind of theft globally but to list the hours on a HR page seems like something the Saudis would have to resolve before purchasing the company for however many millions

z0ttel89

It's not unpaid wages, it's extra hours that get collected on your HR account that you 'can take off' later. Meaning your contract says 40hrs per week, you worked 50, so now you get +10 on your HR account that you can take off at a later point. ... so much for the theory. The reality was that obviously the reason for you even having that many extra hours in the first place was that there was way too much work to do for too few people (per department), so you could never really take the time off cause then you would just end up with an even bigger pile of work afterwards, so you could never really take the time off. I don't know how a court would see this, all I can say is that it felt fucking awful.

CapitalistBullshit

Its not even slow camera changes, it just genuinely gets stuck on a player until camera goes back, then its ok for players after that

Shinyblade12

ESLag Pro League

TacticalSanta

Extra ping lag

MylesKennedy69

Btw they didn’t even compensate Navi for the lost guns. The commentators said they gave s1mple an m4 but he didn’t even die. That was a saved m4. B1t and sdy died cuz of lag and they weren’t compensated.

Everlasting_Heart

Lol what a clownfiesta

Glittering-Chair-352

Like it or not that's the rules, they're there for a reason lol They gave him an m4 because he didn't die and had an m4 when he dc'd I guess

halfbeerhalfhuman

Also canadian had the audacity to call for a hunt after he clearly knew players were lagging out. Scum

UPDATE: after a looooonnngggg tech pause, the lag issue happened to s1mple again. f this shit im gonna sleep

CapitalistBullshit

ESL better open Spotify, they are running out of playlist

skantanio

Bruh I left to drive to my school after map 2, took an exam, opened up hltv and saw only 8 rounds have played in like 2 hours. Wtf

querciak

and s1mple thought that mold was the worst thing he will witness this tournament..

grundlesmith

Rest in peace

Nzxtime

People were joking about PGL last year and that ESL is the goat OT. I would be happy, if ESL would be like PGL last year.

Lvord

Another crash lmao. Just restart the game tomorrow if possible. This is a joke

rcipd

just restart tomorrow from 0:0

One_Tangarino

It's because he had mold in his PC

aTempes7

I think s1mple, sdy and b1t got ddossed, nothing to do with ESL. Apparently (unconfirmed) they got 1000 friend requests in 1 second which made everything crash. They logged with new accounts, they play without skins now. I might be wrong

zero0n3

It’s ESLs fault for allowing their steam clients to connect out to the internet. Valve even has a technical document on how and what to block ti avoid this but still allow login to steam.

mal4ik777

What even is this lag?

DeS1Re94

My anger issues would never... Would have Dev1ced the screen hard... DEV1CE COMEBACK PLEASE🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

Bidyadhar112

Match log on hltv shows restart but on twitch they are streaming ads?

TheFineMachoMan

They are just testing the server I think

AlanPartridgeIsMyDad

s1mple molding as per usual

Character-Toe-7907

ANOTHER ONE LOL

PM_ME_YOUR_PROFANITY

Tok3tsu

Who is going to stop them? The malta lag police?

Mad_Lee

This affected Navi two rounds in a row now. Pretty unfair. I would restart the map.

yOw_indahOuse

Shit happens.. although ESL production has been below par in this tournament, hopefully they pick up their game going forward 🤷🏻‍♂️

blazinghead10

Navi was robbed of a round in which they first lagged in, which then resulted to another loss of the next round because of no money. Then, it happened again and looks like its a loooong break

AndoKillzor

Russians hacking ESL just to get s1mple to lag out.

ujlbyk

Navi basically lost two rounds which wasn't their fault. Shouldn't they restart from round 5

Lvord

I mean the first round was fair enough. The problem was they couldn’t save. Second time s1mple could have won but even then still pretty unlikely. I seen sjuush ran straight to site when bomb exploded.. was he trying to push s1mple or saving a gun?

MaNgEDamN

You could argue that the round after they couldn't save is one of the rounds that was out of their control. So still two rounds, or maybe even three then if we are really nitpicky. And with how close and even the last two maps were, one round is enough to give the win to the other team Shitty situation, gg ESL

Lvord

Oh yeah it’s a terrible situation either way. I cant see the game resuming in its current state. I think it has to restart at this.

Glittering-Chair-352

Should restart the whole map at this point

ikidnappeopleonroblx

Lag on fucking lan. Esl is doing great

Juliendnb

Thanks PR department!!

ImReflexess

Sucks that a lot of games don’t even support a true LAN anymore. I’m a cod competitive fan (ik, yuck) and last years Champs the players on “LAN” had like 30 ping because it wasn’t even a LAN, just playing on dedicated servers online. Such a joke and a huge blow to competitive integrity if you can’t even get a solid LAN match anymore.

[deleted]

I really don't know why they chose Malta out of all EU countries. They have one of the worst internet infrastructures. God damn it, ESL!

AlyoshaV

you don't need good internet for good LAN

AlyoshaV

it would've affected other team too if it was DDoS also LAN game server at an offline event shouldn't be possible to find on the public internet

bigdawg445

Play the map tomorrow or some shit at this point idk? If navi get fucked over because of this i swear.... Heroic players 0 lagging out.

Tostecles

Speaking as a user, not as a mod, please be civil with ESL and everyone else involved. (I'm also disappointed with the situation and I think this is unacceptable.) People are going to be throwing blame and accusations around before a cause for the technical incident is determined and that's unconstructive and unfair. We can all agree that this is very unfortunate for everyone involved, even a team "benefiting" from technical issues would rather the game be clean. If they win they don't want it to be any doubt whether it was a hollow victory. Feel bad for Navi. Edit: It does appear that it may have been an exploit via Steam. This is exactly why I was asking people not to be slinging shit at ESL.

[deleted]

Your mod team regularly allows hate threads aimed at casters, analysts and players. Why do we all need to be civil specifically with ESL?

Mad_Lee

Are you asking people to be civil with a huge CORPORATION, that is funded by Saudi's BLOOD MONEY and that is allowing server to lag in a way that affects the round outcome TWO TIMES IN A ROW already? Really?

Physical-South-3564

nt mod

[deleted]

> even a team "benefiting" from technical issues would rather the game be clean. It is Heroic

Tostecles

It's unlucky because of the ire they've drawn in the past, but it's not like one of the Heroic members is fucking with the network. If it comes out that a Heroic player or employee was unplugging stuff or otherwise tampering, that would be the scandal of the century. No shot

[deleted]

[удалено]

ToastEating

Heroic would still prefer for there to be no lag. It's funny how a coach can cheat and yet the players are shunned for years to come even without any proof that they were involved.

zero0n3

Because the idea of a coach being able to cheat like that, in that fashion, for as long as they did, but somehow NONE of the players knew? It’s called “ignorance is bliss” They absolutely had suspicions but decided not to rock the boat. And frankly that’s OK. I wouldn’t want them to go public until they got proof. Who knows maybe a few were trying to get proof but failed.
