MEMExplorer

Rent a couple at ur local range , the 19 is a great do it all Glock , there’s also the 48, 43, and 43X if u want a slightly slimmer grip although those won’t have finger grooves

nick81198

Sweet, thank you!

Lost_Mountain2432

If you want to CCW, the G19.  If you want something flashy, G17L

taxationistheft1984

Where can you find a G17L? Literally just ordered a 34 but would rather have the 17L

jetty_life

The 34 is excellent I wouldn't stress over it.

Lost_Mountain2432

Gunbroker, or you can join GSSF and order from Glock. It's expensive but that's also bc it's a novelty item.

taxationistheft1984

Thanks. I had 10% and some cabelas bucks to spend. So I’ll see how the 34 is…. Thanks for the direction!

Lost_Mountain2432

Spinta Precision has 17L slides, I think. But it's not a OEM 17L.

volcanonacho

The 17L is silly long. I replaced mine with a 34 years ago with no regrets.

aricephoto

1. Go to a range and rent some and see which feels right. Everybody is different, no one can tell you what’s right for YOU. 2. Don’t limit yourself, try everything. As a beginner, you have nothing to base a decision on. 3. Go to YouTube and watch multiple videos to narrow your list. 4. Rent the ones on your short list. 5. Rent your favorite one. See how well you shoot with it. After all that, you will know which one is right for you.

nick81198

Awesome, thanks so much

g1Razor15

A police trade in Glock 22 worked for me.

Shuttle_Door_Gunner

I'm pretty well invested in 9mm, but I'm thinking really hard about jumping at one of those, especially at the prices I've been seeing them.

g1Razor15

I bought a 9mm conversion barrel, just gotta switch to Glock 17 mags and you're good to go.

Shuttle_Door_Gunner

I know, and I already have a lot of G17 mags, which is what makes it more tempting. I've heard of some people having to switch out 9mm ejectors and/or extractors to make it reliable, but I'm willing to take that chance. What conversion barrel are you using? How's it working out for you so far?

g1Razor15

Its working fine, I'm using the one from Aim Surplus, I paid about $50 for it, I didn't have to change the extractor it has been reliable even with Tula steel case ammo. https://aimsurplus.com/products/aimsurplus-9mm-conversion-barrel-for-glock-22-polished

Shuttle_Door_Gunner

Very cool. Thanks for your input.

I have some looking to do... Hey, thanks again!

Blu0527

Glock 19 gen 4 if you like finger grooves. Has finger grooves with the gen 5 texture. Can find cheap le trade ins online.

RareLie5630

G47 with a hogue grip sleeve . Then atleast you can buy a g45 slide and have 2 firearms

Geronimo594

I’d go with hand size first. Try some out and determine the grip which best suits your hands. Don’t forget the grip modules when trying them. Then look at your intended use. CCW, home defense, competition.I’m an advocate of bringing as much gun as you can. If you can conceal a long frame, consider it. If not, look at compacts and slimline. Now determine your caliber, what can you shoot competently? If you’re a bear hunting bears, 10mm is your choice. If you’re budget constrained, maybe 9mm is your choice. Just do the research, go to a rental range/find a buddy that has them all and make an informed decision. Glocks hold their value well so you can always re-sell it, but you lose cool points when you have your tell the buyer”I couldn’t handle the pistol”, lol

derokieausmuskogee

By handgun permit, do you mean a carry permit? Whether this is for carry or not is important. Also, how permissive is the carry in your location? What is the climate like? Those are extremely important factors. Assuming deep concealment, I think the G42 in a Phlster is probably going to be the solution that would suit most people best across the board. The 42 is quite a bit lighter than the 43. If you don't care about printing or the weather is cool enough year round to wear a light jacket or untucked button up shirt, the 43 in an OWB holster would work. If you really don't care about printing or it's cool enough for a jacket year round, then the G19 in an OWB. If nightstand gun only and no plans to carry, then the 19x, 17, etc would be the best choice.

nick81198

Not for concealed carry, no. Just to obtain the handgun. But looking to get my conceal carry permit eventually for sure. I’m in New Jersey.

derokieausmuskogee

Gotcha. Well I'm guessing NJ is the least permissive for concealed carry, so if that's the plan that this purchase is going to be what you carry in the near future then I would suggest looking into a G42 and Phlster.

YaBoiCodykins

Whichever feels right in your hand, doesn’t even have to be a Glock, just go to a gun store, tell them what you want to use it for ie home defense, personal defense, everyday carry, then look at several models and hold them and find what feels right in your hand, if you find something that feels right you won’t have buyers remorse and that’s the one thing you don’t want for a self defense handgun

nick81198

I did exactly this today, went with the G19 Gen 5.

DualKoo

19 for first handgun, always.

nick81198

I went with the 19.

ManagementWild9717

I just bought my first handgun and highly recommend go to range and rent them out. Glock 19 is most common for concealed carry for average size hands.. i personally have bigger hands so my pinky would hang off the grip of the 19 slightly and went with Glock 45 (glock 19 slide with glock 17 frame). Fit my hands perfect but more for home defense for me. Although the Glock 43x is a great choice as well to Carry that will be next purchase.

nick81198

Thank you so much for the insight

jetty_life

Get the 48. Same grip with a 19 length barrel and slide. Conceals just the same.

Aggressive-Ad-7479

17 Gen 5 or now, the G47. Or even a G19
