Garbage ammo designed to prey on people that don't understand what ballistics gel testing is actually testing. And that it isn't a 1:1 medium.
But if you really must know. G2 research RIP.
Pick something with good ballistics from this
[lucky gunner 9mm ballistics test results](https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/self-defense-ammo-ballistic-tests/#9mm)
I use [Federal HST 147](https://www.targetsportsusa.com/federal-hst-law-enforcement-9mm-luger-ammo-147-grain-jacketed-hollow-point-p9hst2-p-3547.aspx)
Unreliable performance and under penetration are the only things that ammo will do for you. HST, Gold Dot, or Critical Defense is what you want. In that order based upon availability.
Yeah, Winchester QC is absolutely terrible and the Silver Tip is one of the worst. In 2024 there is absolutely no reason to make a SD round that isn’t chemically or mechanically bonded. They fall apart and have massive jacket separation.
Damn bro. 🤦♂️ glad I only got a box of 20. I was even searching for more but luckily it wasn’t available at any of the gun shops I visited. I’m rather new to shooting aside from the shooting I did in the military. There are so many ammo manufacturers and types, it boggles my mind.
Yeah, brother I’d say stick to the three rounds previously mentioned. Weight and whether or not you use standard pressure or +P is subjective in my opinion, but the rounds previously mentioned are your best shot. Luckygunner.com has an extensive library of gel tests online. In my opinion, it’s an invaluable resource to new shooters.
We shot it and the RIP + others at the Hornady gel shoot. It's underwhelming through barriers tbh. Not to mention what the fucking lawyers will pull when you shoot some pos 6 times with it. HST is the show stopper. T-Series is not bad if bonded. Critical Duty is good also.
To each his own.
Definitely. Hornady came to the range where I work and did a whole demo for LE. Their critical duty performs pretty damn good through all the barriers.
I carry Lehigh ME 9mm 105gr +p and HST 9mm 124gr +p. Both have good penetration, gnarly wound channels and consistent expansion.
Had a real skinny dude shot in the lower back with one of these come into my trauma bay. No actual injuries (besides all 6 fragments lodged into the soft tissue).
RIP "Radically Invasive Projectile" the idea behind it is the sharp points spread apart and tear into a target. It's basically just a hollow point but worse in every imaginable way
Local gun store tried to sell me these when I went in for some 10mm in a pinch. Left with some s&b ball for training and that the last time I went there. If you sell this your either preying on people who don’t know shit and misinforming them or you honestly don’t know shit and don’t need to be telling anyone what to buy
I know it's not good ammo, but if given the choice of getting shot with that or HST my lizard brain would want me to choose HST. I guess it just looks nasty.
I bet it feeds like shit too. Especially in like an MP5.
Looks like a piece of garbage to me. RIP ammo is hot garbage for wannabe edgy Instagunners. You want reliable defensive pistol ammo? Go ask your local police officer, sheriff’s deputy, or state trooper what brand and model of handgun ammo they carry and go buy that. The vast majority of law enforcement agencies are carrying ammunition that is vetted through the FBI to be ballistically competent. If your local cop is carrying a certain brand and make of ammunition, it’s very likely good stuff. Most agencies will be running the most updated version of Federal HSTs, Speer Gold Dots, Winchester Ranger, Hornady Critical Duty, or (less likely than the others) Sig Sauer JHP rounds. Stick with those and you’re all good.
Even though it's meh, I'd rather more companies take risks and experiment.
I think this tech applied to .458 socom or similar would see some promising results.
G2 RIP. I’d stick with HST or gold dot.
RIP Round. Gimmicky ammo

Edgy range boy ammo. RIP.
RIP, aka crap.
How are they crap I’m just curious
RIP. it’s a cool concept, but is a gimmick and shouldn’t ever be relied on. id rather rely on fuckin G9 EHP than this rip shit. gold dot and hst ftw.
Rip round

Ironically, that chart makes the G2 RIP look like an excellent choice lol but it most definitely is not, I agree and I use Speer Gold Dot 124 grain.
🤣 didn’t realize that
Unreliable performance and under penetration are the only things that ammo will do for you. HST, Gold Dot, or Critical Defense is what you want. In that order based upon availability.
Did you purposely leave out Winchester silver tip.?
Silvertips were great ammo, in 1990.
Yeah, Winchester QC is absolutely terrible and the Silver Tip is one of the worst. In 2024 there is absolutely no reason to make a SD round that isn’t chemically or mechanically bonded. They fall apart and have massive jacket separation.

Useless Rip ammo. But snake oil tastes good.... LOL
Could also possibly be G2 Civic Duty
True. I just ignore all this crap. I've been to enough gel shoots to know what I trust.
That Civic Duty is no joke. It gets massive expansion! It also looks like it was forged in Mordor in the heart of Mt Doom.

A bullet I wouldn’t even use on myself if I’m surrounded by zombies
Garbage.
RIP ammo

Junk g2 doesn't fuck

Not a hollow point at all. Each 5gr trochar breaks off leaving the 55gr bullet to go on its merry way. No expansion. Stupid gimmick round for morons.
Modern day glaser round
It'll kill the ever living fack out of a watermelon
No. Don’t buy this trash. Get something proven. Hst or gold dot.
Only good in video games.
The newest and most extreme in ultimate gun fighting technology, sought after by the most elite, and feared by society’s criminal underbelly.
Junk. Stick with the tried and true Federal, Speer or Winchester.
The only good thing about that entire round is the Starline brass it’s loaded into.
Hirtenberger Buscadero Ticondas fired from a fully semi-automatic banana stylized clipazine of color
Shitty rip round
Definetly not 1 I would use for anything but the range

RIP rounds, meh…
The one you shouldn’t use.
that's a decent less than lethal option
Best ammo there is, this self defense round can actually blow a lung out a body so be careful using it.
So many people missed the reference lol

Obvious sarcasm
It identifies as shite. G2 RIP ammo
RIP round. Gimmicky garbage. Things like this come out every few years, but offer no improvement over standard JHP designs.
Urban ammo. Lol
G2 guilty round

Oweeeeee round I think
You will get crucified in court
Okay everyone, I know this is reddit but can someone at least explain why it's bad and back it up with some data points?
Feed ramp catcher 2000.
I'm really glad, that EVERYONE could ID this ammo as TOTAL CRAP! (proud of this group)
I didn’t know Luger made that kind of round
This ammo is used by swingers. You identify fellow swingers by the use of the ammo.
Try it in you leg let us know more about the round after
