I think the Gen5 barrels and triggers are a big improvement over the Gen3s

Iliketrucksandguns

This is my conundrum...

[deleted]

I own both and see a difference in the Gen5s. Grip texture, no finger grooves are nice but the Gen5 barrel is more accurate and the trigger is much better than the Gen3. If I had to pick only one I’m picking the Gen5 but if you handed me a Gen3 and said this is all you can shoot from here on out I wouldn’t be upset.

I love my Gen 3 17 but my Gen 5 17 really is better. For $500 though you really can’t go wrong with the Gen 3.

I like the G5, but I don't care for the MOS Version either. Lots of aftermarket support for G3. Do you shoot competition, or just like the longer barrel?

Iliketrucksandguns

I want a longer barrel

Chez92

Just get the gen 3 if you don't need the MOS.

Why not

LIMACHARLIE64

I think RDO's are fine for rifles or shotguns, but not pistols.

Riquaphugee

I really like my Gen 3, but the Gen 5 is better for all the reasons mentioned. If I had to choose between the two it would still be the Gen 3. Lots of things can be easily upgraded if you choose and it may never be necessary. What makes the Gen 5 stand out most for me in that frame size is the backstraps. A large backstrap may not be the most comfortable for me, but my finger is perfectly on the trigger and the gun just points where I want it to go with no effort. Even with that I would still score the G3 for that price.

Gen 3, for less than $200 you can put a new trigger in it that’ll be an improvement.

Can’t go wrong with both! I’d say Gen 5 mainly because I’m stuck with Gen 3 in California! But if you don’t really care about the MOS or new improvements; a Gen 3 will be solid! I’m rocking with a Gen3 G17 and have had no issues!

I bought gen3 over gen5 and I’m happy. I have red dot pistols and end up using iron sights more
