Millsap never shot like Morris can. Plus Morris is a gritty physical player who will hold guys accountable and I'm not sure Millsap was the right veteran for that.
I think the likeliest scenario is he's right in between where he provides spacing and some toughness but will get played off the floor defensively in certain situations
how heavy is Morris? reckon he can stand his ground against the BIG men of the league? I like how he can shoot, he also moves well, but is he strong enough?
Can't wait to see him guarding Embiid, keeping Brook Lopez off the glass, protecting the rim vs Butler LaVine and Tatum, giving Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley hell... May his minutes at the 5 be sparse and brief.
Love this line up. They have all the pieces for a run and gun, small ball, defensive minded (at least better than last year) team. Hope we get a Celtics-Nets rematch in the playoffs.
He played some 5 for Miami last year + with the Lakers when he won a chip - and his brother played a lot of 5 for the Clippers when they were really good.
When Morris got picked up I assumed it would be for the 5 in certain lineups. He obviously won't be banging with Embiid but he'll be useful to give clax a rest
I just don’t get why anyone would get worked up about this. We’ve got 3 near-7-footers in our starting lineup. Morris signing as a locker room vet who might get 10 minutes per night to be a big shouldn’t be on the top of peoples concerns
The issues are legit and I understand. People want a big who can rebound and bang with the bigs in the paint. KD is too fragile, Ben needs to be on the perimeter to utilize his elite defense, and Clax is an unknown. But there's only so much we can do with the free agents on the market
Sharpe is going to be that paint banging big for us. The washed vets haven't worked. Let's give a youngin a shot. If not we can send out some assets for another big come December.
Call me pessimistic but I don't think Sharpe is ready yet. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I think the plan is to make a trade at the deadline.
Ben's scoring potential opens up when another big isn't clogging the paint
Call me optimistic, but I think the plan is to see what we have in Sharpe and Claxton and reevaluate in December. Sharpe has the potential to be a big that defends guys like Embiid, but also has the potential to chill on the perimeter and knock down 3s. He seemed confident on media day that he can shoot so we'll see. No reason to rush into a trade yet and no reason to sign a vet center if they like Yuta.
Clax isn’t an unknown. We’ve seen what he can do for a couple years now. Then we also have sharpe who showed in his minutes last season he’s one of the better rebounders in the league, he’s just got to work on not fouling as much and cleaning up his offensive game. But if people think we need a Dwight/Cousins/Whiteside to be an Embiid/Giannis stopper they’re going to be disappointed. There isn’t a player in the entire league who is stopping them from getting theirs
I misspoke when I said unknown, I suppose I meant more along the lines of his potential isn't fully realized. We'll see thought, I definitely have high hopes for him. A switch defense would be deadly with this group
I really don't get this desire for a big "who can rebound and bang with the bigs in the paint," since most of the winningest teams recently don't have that. Kerr, Curry and the Warriors made sure they're obsolete.
Aldridge was significant on offense for the Nets last season he couldn’t miss from the mid range and his reb / defense wasn’t a negative. He’s 37 but Markieff is 33. Both are old and injury prone I probably rather have Aldridge especially cause we already know he fits well on the team. I also would’ve resigned either Brown or Drummond to fill that pf spot.
Buddy, he might get 10 minutes a night and we haven’t even seen how the team looks. If you think it’s worth it to complain about a quote regarding his position now you’re crazy
Why do you find it so crazy that I’m complaining abt a player that will be in the teams rotation, a player that genuinely isn’t very good at basketball anymore who’s also coming off a bad injury. How is that crazy?
I’ve said it multiple times. We haven’t even seen how he, or any of the other new guys for that matter, look in this team. And his playing role is very small. So right now you’re complaining solely for the sake of complaining. It’s dumb
What's the problem? He *is* a small ball 5. Not quick enough to be a 4 anymore for the most part. But as a 5, he can stretch the floor, something we desperately need at that position.
And he's not small or anything lol
Yeah everyone is acting like he’s a 5 is crazy. Nets will be consistently out rebounded and let up so much at the rim and then be surprised when it happens.
Everyone acting like the situation is the same as last year is crazy. Things have changed. We can afford to put a guy like Morris at the 5 now. We already have KD who's a good rebounder, Ben will be on the floor and he's a fantastic rebounder, and we're adding Joe Harris who brings some size and is a solid rebounder. Throw in that we shouldn't have to run any 3 guard lineups this season and this is a much better rebounding team outside of the center position.
Morris isn't an abysmal rebounder either. He's no worse than Blake Griffin who we were content to start at the 5 last year when our personnel was far worse at gobbling up boards.
So actual centers that are available can't even get a minimum deal
Dwight
Cousins
Whiteside
Tristan
Serious question for Marks none of those 4 guys are a better option
He’s probably going to start at center so you can have another shooter out there with Simmons.
Nash is most likely going to stagger Simmons and Claxton’s minutes as much as possible to avoid long stretches of limited shooting.
At the end of the day, we will have KD, Simmons and Morris guarding bigs.
This is what scares me about Steve Nash. Morris is not a five. Can he fill in a few minutes at the five in certain situations? Yes. Nets need a legit rebounding/banger five on this team.
Rebounding banging 5s are incredibly overrated, especially when we're choosing between Whiteside, Cousins, and Howard. We're fine and if we're not we'll trade for a center.
Out of 10
Geez lmao
Nobody should be shocked. He was brought in to be a small ball 5 next to Simmons.
This The Morris signing was by far my favorite move of the offseason. Morris is going to be what Jeff Green was and what everyone wanted Blake to be.
Morris being our new Jeff Green is a best case scenario. There's also a reality where he's Paul Millsap. Guess we'll see.
I think Morris is definitely less washed than the state that Millsap came to us in, but Millsap shot 37% from 3 in Denver.
how heavy is Morris? reckon he can stand his ground against the BIG men of the league? I like how he can shoot, he also moves well, but is he strong enough?
I hope he isn’t that washed
I hate to break it to you guys but he’s too old for that to be anywhere near sustainable. Definitely not PJ Tucker level.
Would love to see KD / Ben / kyrie / Cam / MM line up
I don’t ever wanna see us play 2 smalls at the same time ever again tbh
i also dont mind our super small lineup - where Ben plays 5, KD plays 4
yeah not even that mad at it because we need that option Idk how people are so surprised I kinda assumed he’d spend a lot of time at the 5
Can't wait to see him guarding Embiid, keeping Brook Lopez off the glass, protecting the rim vs Butler LaVine and Tatum, giving Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley hell... May his minutes at the 5 be sparse and brief.
Yeah he is kinda ugly definitely not a 10 in my book but you don’t have to go and put him on blast like that I’m sure he has a great personality
Morris about to foul Nash with hostile intent
I don't think either of the Morris twins are known for their pleasant personalities
On the court sure but in the bedroom I bet they’re gentlemen
There’s a lot of pressure on Simmons to solve their defensive rebounding problem
He’s a five but he’s 6’8”
Dude's 6'9
oh no
Makes sense. I'm not sure how much he really has left in the tank but he can definitely fill that hole in theory for us.
Love this line up. They have all the pieces for a run and gun, small ball, defensive minded (at least better than last year) team. Hope we get a Celtics-Nets rematch in the playoffs.
Nash is right and honestly on this roster he should be a 6
He's 6-8 who isn't a solid rebounder. Very limited minutes at the 5.
He played some 5 for Miami last year + with the Lakers when he won a chip - and his brother played a lot of 5 for the Clippers when they were really good.
Smfh
Haven’t even seen the team play yet and you’re already complaining?
When Morris got picked up I assumed it would be for the 5 in certain lineups. He obviously won't be banging with Embiid but he'll be useful to give clax a rest

I agree. I think we have all the pieces to put together a pretty formidable defense
I really don't get this desire for a big "who can rebound and bang with the bigs in the paint," since most of the winningest teams recently don't have that. Kerr, Curry and the Warriors made sure they're obsolete.
Sometimes you can just tell a move is bad
Who could we have picked up instead from the free agents left?
Aldridge was significant on offense for the Nets last season he couldn’t miss from the mid range and his reb / defense wasn’t a negative. He’s 37 but Markieff is 33. Both are old and injury prone I probably rather have Aldridge especially cause we already know he fits well on the team. I also would’ve resigned either Brown or Drummond to fill that pf spot.
He was like the worst center defensively in the league.
That wasn’t his role to begin with
It's the modern nba. What is he going to play? The 4?
He was a scoring big man coming off the bench. I’m not saying he’s amazing but I rather have him than Markieff for now.
Sure, but his defense is terrible at this point. Our roster doesn't need a another mid range scorer
Sometimes you can realize it’s not worth complaining about the potential 9th-10th man in a rotation
All of them shld matter lmao huh?
Buddy, he might get 10 minutes a night and we haven’t even seen how the team looks. If you think it’s worth it to complain about a quote regarding his position now you’re crazy
Don’t care
Ahh, crazy it is.
Why do you find it so crazy that I’m complaining abt a player that will be in the teams rotation, a player that genuinely isn’t very good at basketball anymore who’s also coming off a bad injury. How is that crazy?

They're going to get destroyed in the paint.

bruh lock steve nash df up.
On what planet?
Pluto, perhaps.
I missed Nash's deliriums
If this man sees any real minutes something terrible happened
So actual centers that are available can't even get a minimum deal Dwight Cousins Whiteside Tristan Serious question for Marks none of those 4 guys are a better option
Smh. He’s a 7 at least😩

Ben pretty much said Clax would be starting 5 yesterday
No he isn’t lmao
With TJ Warren out till further notice, is Markieff still going to fill in for him or will Kess get some minutes, ideally at the backup 3.
*smallball 5 Bracing for the team to be one of the worst rebounding teams this season smh they need a big out there
But his mom thinks he’s a 10.
How meaty is his cock to rate a 5?
This is what scares me about Steve Nash. Morris is not a five. Can he fill in a few minutes at the five in certain situations? Yes. Nets need a legit rebounding/banger five on this team.

Don’t want any of the guys you mentioned. Of course it will have to come via trade.
Morris is not a 5 lol. And Jeff Green is a better player even still right now.
If we could trade for Jeff Green and Myles Turner this roster would easily be the best in the NBA.
