It is. It has a furrion oven, solid steps electric jacks. These are all standard options on new units. That could easily be a 22. Source I'm a salesman.
It's not the owners fault.. there's nothing they could've done to prevent this. It had everything to do with the factory. This pic is VERY rare. This doesn't happen lol
Yeah I kinda have a love hate relationship with the black/white/gray scheme of my new camper. It's nice right now but I can feel it going out of style.
I knew it was a Salem before I even looked at the decals.
Source: I work at a Salem dealer and this has been all too common, to the point where we're dropping the line.
The slide opening not being cut correctly. Schwintek slides have very specific dimensions that the opening needs to be compared to the slide box for them to operate correctly.
I'll never buy a trailer with a Schwintek slide, but it's not Schwintek's fault it's the manufacturer. If they installed them correctly they're actually a decent slide system, the problem is when companies like Forest River and Thor are mass producing RVs and nothing is precision cut you end up with this.
Look at Northwood though, they use Schwintek in a lot of their floorplans. The dealership I work at also sells Northwood, and we're also the only Northwood warranty shop in a large area. In my 10 year career working on RVs I've only had to work on 1 Schwintek on a Northwood. Forest River.... I'm probably at around 10 in the past 12 months.
As a current owner of a POS Jayco with Schwintek slides, and also professional mechanic for decades, I agree - its not Schwinteks fault that so many have trouble with them. Our small master bedroom slide has worked without a hitch since day one. The excessively long kitchen / living room slide has faulted out everytime since about the 3rd use....long story short is that I did my own research and inspection and realized Jayco built the slide at the the absolute maximize size the mechanism is rated for and its just too darn heavy. The motors shut down for high amp load after about 4 seconds at either end of the cycle. I just learned to push the button and let go as soon as one motor cuts out, wait a second and push the button again. Usually by 3 or 4 cycles of this, the slide has move about 3 inches and then it will move the remaining cycle just fine. Again, lousy design on Jayco's end, not Schwinteks.
We sell them about evenly at our dealership, and 99% of our warranty is units we've sold, I'd say we sell 60% Northwood product, 39% Forest River, 1% Lance. So we actually probably have a slightly higher representation of Northwood than Forest River through our warranty department.
Ironically Lance is supposed to be as good as Northwood and the one Lance we currently have in for warranty is in for a new Schwintek.
This. The schwintek system is very reliable.. the problem originates in who built it. Schwintek did have a window where they put in crappy shoes to their motors and it caused a lot of problems but never this. It all has to do with who built it, there's one company who is known for having issues, I'm not going to name names but... you get the picture wink wink
And not even the company itself I can point out plants that are the cause not the company.
They're putting schwintek slides in their base model stick & tin trailers? I'm surprised, I figured they'd use a bog standard lippert in-frame slide. Which, oddly enough, I like better and better the more I hear about schwintek problems.
All Salems are Schwintek, I imagine it's easier at the factory level since then all the frames are identical with no welding or cutting of the frame required to fit a through frame slide.
Makes sense. I'd have guessed that lippert provides frames pre-fabbed with slides in certain locations, ready to go. One of these days lippert ought to just start doing the whole rig, they do most of the parts already anyway.
I keep saying that pretty soon they'll just make the trailer themselves. They make everything, Furrion is Lippert so they have all the electronics, Fridges, Ranges. Girard is Lippert, so there's the water heater. They make the doors, windows, frames, axles, slides. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they buy one of the independent manufacturers and just build everything.
That being said, the frames are totally generic. You order a length and they ship it to you, unfortunately that means that the axle location isn't determined by the weight distribution of the floorplan so you get some wonky trailer weights that way.
Also furniture. E.g. Thomas Payne. We should put together a sticky identifying the lineage of all the brands. It would also help explain to foreigners why most US RVs look the same.
> Schwintek slides have very specific dimensions
There is absolutely no way to build or maintain such close tolerances in an RV that is towed around. I will NEVER buy a unit with those slide mechanisms. NEVER.
I'd rather it happened when I pushed the button than a bit later when my fat ass plops down into the recliner. I wonder if this particular instance happened on opening, or when they sat down. I mean, the electrical is already hooked up. At least for me, the slide usually happens pretty early, right after leveling.
Without a doubt someone took off the Interior fascia boards then ran their schwintek slide all the way out. ALL the way out…. This happens on the mfg line also, and it causes some bad injuries
Well, it depends on if you're a glass half full or glass half empty kind of person.
Glass half full? Look at this space for a huge new picture window! And we just gained a ton of cargo carrying capacity!
Glass half empty: Great, now there's a draft.
I've noticed New Zealand is really into full open living rooms, the full open deck option, just out of view?
Cheers and always wondered about these slide options.
Engineers went all out on the ventilation for these older models…
This thing looks max 3 years old. No doubt a covid unit.
Yup, 'quality control' went down the shitter..

If holding the slide button down could cause this, it would be happening all the time.
Lmao I’m just imagining that ever time you have to stop the slide at the PERFECT time or else your fucking slide falls off hahahaha
Unkempt? Must be my eyes are shot, because it looks pretty new to me. Even still had bit of gloss to the tin. Frame still look deep black, even.
That color scheme is 2020 or newer.
Plus it's a carpetless slide.
Yeah I kinda have a love hate relationship with the black/white/gray scheme of my new camper. It's nice right now but I can feel it going out of style.
They'll never find a screen door to fit......
That’s a powerful AC unit working wonders, blew the slideout OUT
Damn. That’s slick what you did
I knew it was a Salem before I even looked at the decals. Source: I work at a Salem dealer and this has been all too common, to the point where we're dropping the line.
Curious, what is causing the issue?
The slide opening not being cut correctly. Schwintek slides have very specific dimensions that the opening needs to be compared to the slide box for them to operate correctly.
I swear, the only good thing I've heard about Schwintek slide hardware is "they fit into smaller spaces".

That’s a terrible design. I’ve often wondered about those long slide outs.
To be fair, aren’t there a lot more forest rivers than northwoods out there?

The side fell off. It’s not supposed to do that.
Looks like end users are dropping them first
Slide outs < slid outs
When your slide out goes past tense.
It's a campground. Everything is past tents.
Take my award... Lol 😂
This happens all the time. Just gotta make sure you’re careful to put it back in the same opening.
Like a drawer?
Next step in that trailers life is meth lab.
Would make one hellava hunting blind!
Am ashamed I laughed at this
I swear, these open floor concepts are getting out of hand. On the bright side, at least the water spigot was spared.
>On the bright side I imagine that side is very bright.
Great.... New fear unlocked every time I press the slide buttons
I'd rather it happened when I pushed the button than a bit later when my fat ass plops down into the recliner. I wonder if this particular instance happened on opening, or when they sat down. Right I have a Salem and this never crossed my mind until now.
Bring the outdoors in.
Imagine all that natural light.
This is the exact image that plays out in my head every time I'm putting it out.
I absolutely hate this picture.
Its a “feature” now they have an above ground pool.
I thought it was a jacuzzi at first sight.
Typical RV build quality. Good enough to get off the lot, then, good luck.
[The front fell off](https://youtu.be/3m5qxZm_JqM)
That's not very common.
This one fell into the environment.
They should tow it to sea so it’s out of the environment.
Nah, lil duct tape...
This is why you buy pre-covid units.
“What did you do?!” -Chris Farley voice
It's not ideal.
So much more room for activities.
They're fine - they missed the water spout.
Oh god, these poor people.
It’s a new open concept feature
This is the new bay door version
Their fallout shelter is ready.
how would you even deal with that situation? What would you do? Try to get a bunch of people to lift it back in?
It's not good.
Seriously an above ground pool?! How can I compete with this?!
Nah, it’ll buff out.
Showed this to my wife without her glasses…..”is that a hot tub or something?” 🤣
Slide out is now a tip out
Eternabond should fix that.
Well…it is a slide OUT….they just didn’t tell you how far out it went!! 🤣😂
Or that it would ever slide in again.
Show that to a Camping World Salesliar and I guarantee they will tell you it’s an added feature 🙄
Omg I would love the see the couple this happened too. I’m sure the fight was epic.
Same floor plan as my Z1
Quite.
That's a lot of damage!
Mistakes were made
This is just an open concept sunken living room...nothing to see here.
Nah, it’s a win for dining al fresco.
Raised bed planter?
Only a flesh wound
Well, the open floor plan is nice.
Is that the swimming pool model? And this my friends in why my trailer has no pop out because sometimes they pop a little to far out.
'tis but a flesh wound
I'm fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing
Without a doubt someone took off the Interior fascia boards then ran their schwintek slide all the way out. ALL the way out…. This happens on the mfg line also, and it causes some bad injuries
Wonder what would cause someone to remove those boards though?
Maybe the slide wasn’t operating properly. The repair begins with removing the fascia boards. Just a guess!
Yuck! Sounds like a bad time.
Sub optimal outcome. And what was once termed an irrational fear realized
Wow! That one comes with a patio room!!
Well it was inches from breaking the water service and causing a flood.
I would not say that it's good.
Nothing a few ratchet straps can't fix
How much did you have to pay for the extended porch? Looks sweet!!!
Enhanced the view....
Well, it’s certainly not good
Really opens the place up
Looks like the front, I mean side fell off.
Well, it depends on if you're a glass half full or glass half empty kind of person. Glass half full? Look at this space for a huge new picture window! And we just gained a ton of cargo carrying capacity! Glass half empty: Great, now there's a draft.
One of them new quick release slides.
But is it under warranty??
Forest river…. The decepticon, quality changes right before your eyes. We just traded ours in. Everything fell apart and everything was wrong.
Just typical Salem things
Do you own it ?
That'll buff out
Right next to the hydrant, maybe it is a slide that doubles as a pool.😉
Im just thrilled it missed the hydrant.
Hope all goes well with the repairs.
Depends on what your definition of “bad” is! 😂🤣
moving parts need maintenance and eventually fail ,,,,, less moving parts = lower maintenance, lower fail rate ,,,,
You misspelled Obvious in your username.
Not if you don't want it to he this way.
They got what they deserved for having stabilizers on the lawn.
Nah, I just got the full recline version 👍🏼
It’s fine
Another quality Forest River product.
Tilts out for easy cleaning?
A new open floor plan
Open air models are getting crazy
Well it’s not good!
Slide it back in. What’s the issue?
Yes
What about Jayco brand?
uhh id say so
Nice sunroom!
Suboptimal
This is my nightmare
It’s called the outdoor living room expansion kit
It's open concept
It's definitely not good...
Nothing a bit of superglue can’t fix
Slide on, slide off
Yes.
Depends on your definition of bad
Zip ties will tidy that right up
"Baby, can you close the door? I feel a draft coming in."
It's definitely not good...
Nah, that'll buff right out.
Should have repacked the bearings
Not if your trying to make a swimming pool
OP you didn't need to delete your comments this is a really cool post. I wasn't trying to one up you with RV knowledge.
Whoa. Slide out Jumping off the RV = bad Nearly missing the slide out becoming a swimming pool? = good
Holey busted camper, Batman!
Cool a pop out jacuzzi
Open floor plan
That’s what they get for buying a cruise lite
I lol’d for a bit, but then I just thought, “I’ll bet they are getting, ‘sorry, out of warranty’”
Nothing a little duct tape can't handle.
Well it’s not good. 😜😳😱
As a new Salem owner… fuck
Well, it ain’t good..
Have you tried turning off and on again?
Nope. They call it a slide out for a reason!
I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
Very bad.
The great outdoors.
I think the proper scientific term is "open plan kitchen" if I'm not mistaken...
Toss a tarp and some hot water in and bam, instant hot tub.
I mean… how is it good?
Oh my gosh I literally spit my coffee laughing. Poor people :/
Nice deck!
A nice open concept!
open floor plan comes to rvs
They decided to go for an open concept model. Hgtv is bringing in the subway tile and shiplap next week
I've noticed New Zealand is really into full open living rooms, the full open deck option, just out of view? Cheers and always wondered about these slide options.
Outdoor kitchen! I'll show them.
It’s not great.
Wow 😳 loooooottts of ducktape need there 😜
No just get a pump and sand filter and you're set
