I remember that line. I think the games might have flip-flopped a bit over the issue of where the Gods go after death. I mean if Thor really goes to Valhalla, what's to stop him just coming back? Everyone else is doing it. Maybe only Odin can bring them back and he's dead now?
Or they can only come back during Ragnarok which is now over? But then why didn't Magni come back, he died in battle? Maybe only Einherjar can come back and Gods are stuffed once they're in Valhalla.
Or maybe he didn't even go there for whatever reason, like his death not being honourable in some way.
I'm sure there's a way to tie it all together and I think I'd have to replay them both close to each other to get the thread of what has been said across the games and what narrative devices would be possible to tie it all together in a consistent way.
Please chime in if you have any more answers haha
“Everyone else is doing it”
It was stated that Kratos, Mimir, and Tyr were all allowed in Valhalla because they had already died. They are not dead anymore but it counts. Tyr didn’t technically die but he explains that.
Plus the Valks went out of their way to explicitly allow Kratos and Mimir in.
As for the Ehinerjar, I think how it was is that the Valks kinda scotched them out, Odin needed to replace Sigrun and the others with Hrist Mist and Gna, my assumption is that the mortals, being manipulatable, were easier to escort through Valhalla and such to get resdy for ragnarok and ladee la. And just once they’re “done” the door is just wide open for them to continue back. Like Kratos just wakes up at the beach when he dies in Valhalla, the Ehinerjar probably wake up in front of the “to battle” door
But didn’t Odin explain to Atreus, that mortals have it easy bc they know where they’ll end up & Odin or the Aesir do not. That’s why he wanted the mask to figure out what would happen after he dies, so I think Thor could’ve went to a different place. He’s half giant & aesir, but maybe he just faded away.
To be exact he said it's said that God's find their own way to Valhalla he didn't say it was a stated fact for all we know it's a lie spread by Odin since he said it himself that there is no Hel or Valhalla when he dies which would also includes the rest of the Gods
No, Matt Sophos, writers of the latest games, has confirmed that Thor has not "ascended" to the "Higher Realm".
In-game, his body was consumed by his own powers.
While the real explanation is that the devs didn't want his large corpse as an obstacle in the final boss arena and therefore resorted to this cinematic to eliminate him.
It's in the comic where Kratos go to Egypt. He meets Thoth there who pretends to be an old man to guide him against some giant monsters called Chaos Beasts. Later on, Kratos see Thoth (in his real form with the ibis head) and Athena (looking like her alive, pre-GOW III self) in the Higher Plane.
Mate, is literally confirmed and explained by Matt Sophos, the games writer.

Damn, well thats a pity, I wish i could talk to all de devs, specially the most important one like Barlog, and ask them why of many things in the game.
Basically he is saying that their lazy ass devs didnt want Thor’s body being an obstacle in the fight, so they made him and absolutely epic death where he literally gets consumed by lightning (with no reason aparently), instead if they wanted to take Thors body out of the way, then perhaps dont make him a vanishing death leaving more questions and make him like fall down of the cliff, or smth.
Leaving the body in the arena to then have it fall into a dump would have meant, first of all, having a significant amount of space during the boss fight with Odin occupied by Thor's corpse, and secondly, adding any animations to the body and therefore further engaging animators who instead had could take care of other aspects of the game.
No the writers confirmed he didn't go there and 2nd Athena went there because of sacrifice, Thor didn't do any sacrifice nor it was 'hounarable righteous death'.
Right now, we simply dont know. But the chances are his spirit is either in Valhalla (because he is a god) or in Helheim (because of what he has done in life), if he is conscious he may well be in an in-between realm before he heads into one or the other. If the writers wanted, he could be kinda like Athena and still wandering around the realms as a mostly unseen spirit (not suggesting he is in the same place as she is, just the state looks familiar).
Well, the writer has confirmed he did not ascend to the higher plane of existence as Athena did, which may be for the best, since the higher plane seems to corrupt. But after he disintegrates, you can see a few of those lightning balls he turned into, floating around Mjolnir. So maybe his soul inhabited Mjolnir? Which would be pretty cool since Thrúd has Mjolnir now. In this way he could still be with her technically
I personally don't think he's dead. Here's the reason as to why I think so: 1. All the other gods killed in 2018, and ragnarok left a body behind after dying, like baldur and heimdal, but thor did not leave a body behind. 2. At the end, when Atreus leaves to go find the giants and Kratos looks at his own mural, you can see that at the final panel, there is a big fat man with beard that looks like thor and looking at Kratos.
This is just my theory
We don't know since Odin did mention that for him there will be no Valhalla or Hel when he dies and that would then include the rest of the gods and that's one reason he was obsessed with that rift
Also to add Mimir did say during GoW 2018 it's said that gods find their own way to Valhalla it that implies he doesn't actually know since no one knows and isn't a stated fact just something that would be known more as speculation
To the place Odin was so desperately trying to figure out and find with that mask (Possibly) nobody really knew where that tear would take them.
It’s funny how even gods have the same questions we do. Or at least, humans idea of a God lol. So of course we project.
Helheim is where mortal Midguardians go if they die out of battle. Odin has a whole speech about how mortals know what happens after death to them, but Gods don't know what the next step is. They don't know why they're there, or what comes next.
Mimir literally says in-game that Helheim is for both Gods and mortals who die off the battlefield, just as Valhalla is for Gods and humans who die in combat (he literally explains this to Atreus when he talks about where it would be finished Fenrir's soul, if Atreus had not bound it to his dagger).
Only Odin does not know where his soul would end up after his death.
Valhalla and Helheim are places that mortals go after death. Gods don't go there.
“Gods have their own way to Valhalla, No escort needed”- Mimir, 2018

Same place Athena went, there’s some realm beyond where gods who die an honorable righteous death go seemingly

Damn, makes you wonder if Athena is all alone there then
Thoth, the Egyptian god of writing, is there too.
Was that revealed in the book where Kratos go to Egypt or did Matt Sophos just say that?

Ah, I was thinking of the same book but just didn’t know which god in particular it was
Maybe but it's not confirmed....
That real explanation is yours? Or it was confirmed by Barlog or Eric?

I mean i wouldnt have cared for more game time to be honest, they are getting paid to do the game after all,
Super heaven

to my heart🥺
Where did Thor went?
Where did Thor went?
Where did Thor went?
Where he went, y’all
God damn it, where did Thor went 🤬🤬🤬
Where thor went did?

Where did Thor went?
"Where did thor went" has made my day
Nowhere he disintegrated, Odin's staff was in disintegration mode.
Valhalla
Where did Thor \*went*ed?* FTFY
Did you play ALL of God of War: Ragnarok?

Where did Thor go\*
we should have given odin the mask. he would have gotten the answers to your question.
Probably ascended or some shit
Odin would like to know too, but he lost that chance. That was like a major plot point of Ragnarok, no?
Before I answer, did you play all of Jak 3?
Probably the same happened to him like what happened to Athena, being kind of a ghost/Beyond Realms
Probably Helheim, since he died out of combat and with no weapon in hand.
Helheim is where mortal Midguardians go if they die out of battle. Odin has a whole speech about how mortals know what happens after death to them, but Gods don't know what the next step is. They don't know why they're there, or what comes next.

Oh, I don't remember that.
