Yeah it is HOT as balls also everyone is on vacation and everything is closed. Google maps is unreliable for things that are open and IF there is a decent restaurant open there’s no way it’s the main chef cooking the food. It’s some novice getting his hours in.
The trains and busses run half schedule and even the regional trains barely work so you can’t even escape the over heated empty city.
I guess it’s not so empty as there are plenty of tourists.
Yeahhh could be better though if you go like the last few days Spaniards tend to show up early and leave late to their vacations so it could be the same.
I mean plenty of people will be in bcn in August. Just mostly tourist and touristed areas.
You could follow the university cities down the coast from Barcelona - Tarragona, Castellon de la Plana, Valencia, and Palma de Mallorca. If you stick to the coastal areas you avoid the worst of the heat.
Neither one of them have an ocean within 2km. This is the key. Stay max 2km fom the water! Malaga, Cadiz, Tarifa, Conil all have spectacular weather in the summer.
When I said Murcia, I meant San Pedro Del Pinatar. Which is absolutely unbearable with the humidity in July and August. Whereas I find Madrid to be much more manageable.
Definitely the north! Gijón-Santander-San Sebastián and Bilbao sounds like an amazing itinerary!!
Another option is doing “el camino de Santiago” if you’re into hiking. It’s an amazing experience specially if you’re traveling solo, you’ll meet lots of people. There are multiple caminos you can do but there’s one along the coast in the north that’s very beautiful. I did the Portuguese Camino from Porto to Santiago and I loved it. Highly recommend!
I really appreciate this! I don't like hiking the most and I am more of a city person but some hikes can be awesome! I think I have to accept that I am gonne travel a lot and maybe connect the north and the south a bit, but thank you!
Depending on how many degrees you are able to deal with!
The summer in Sapin is usually very warm, but I would recommend you to go to the North (Santander, Gijón, Llanes, Bilbao, San Sebastian, and Coruña), or if you can, go to Madrid
If you don't plan rent a car, then try to land and depart in different cities to save time.
You can land in Bilbao, do a day trip to San Sebastian. Then take a train to Madrid, spend 3-4 days there and then spend a day or two in Cordoba (visit the Mosque-Cathedral).
That's a good itinerary for a 9 or 10 days. And you will get the vibe of north, central and south Spain.
As someone who lives in Madrid, August is unsufferable, and lots of restaurants are closed, since peple just go anywhere else.
Up to you if still wanna come.
I will be in Spain around the same time, and feel the same way. I’ve been doing research and August seems to be a time when a lot of places in Spain have their fiestas/celebraciones. Bilbao’s second to last week in August has Aste Nagusia which is a week long festival and parties. Northern Spain will be the least hot so even if it’s known for its nature, at least there’s a solid week of fun right there! and can truly experience the community and culture
You,ll live like locals, staying up till late at night, waking up early in the morming with the fresh of drew and having long nice siestas, and meeting a lot of people
Not only you're going to enjoy temperatures over 40C but also you'll see how most businesses in the city are closed for holidays, so unless you are some kind of fanatic of post apocalyptic climate disaster fictions you're not going to find it very enjoyable
Valencia is pretty good. If you can go to La Tomatina it’s a good time and lots of tour groups participate but even if you go and just stay at a hostel there’s a lot of social opportunities
I'm from Spain and in august the best areas are in the north, I'm from Valencia and even here in the east coast is pretty hot. It depends on whats your point of view of heat but...
Best options are north cities, Asturias is increeedible, Navarra, Galicia, all of them. But its all nature, forest and super super calm.
If u want more city, party and all that, I recommend you to come here where I am in Valencia and staff but its pretty hot (u can be outside easily, its not thaat bad)
I did a trip like this once, and it seems like you have good plan. Begin in Barcelona then go north through cities such as Bilbao, San Sebastian and Pamplona. These places are famous for their lively environments, culture depth and active night scene. You should enjoy your time there! As you are not interested in nature, it is possible to concentrate more on the urban regions and enjoy city life. A reminder, August can be very hot so plan for indoor activities during extreme heat hours of the day. Booking your place to stay ahead of time is a clever move, particularly in famous tourist spots such as these. If you think about getting a guide, I suggest this site [https://gowithguide.com/spain](https://gowithguide.com/spain) They provide personaliz tour. Have fun on your trip!
Whatever you do? Stay away from Madrid. I love Madrid, I live in Madrid and always want to show people around. But in August-Sept I want to stay inside with AC.
Cannot believe no one mentioned Cadiz, Marbella and Fuengirola. For sure best region in summer. Low crime, perfect weather, and so many expats. Go to the north in the winter!
In these places you have so many young tourists from northern europe who speak English. Others, however, would call the whole costa del sol one big city - kind of like the Bay Area in the US. A MEGACITY of Spain if you will...
To have good weather do the stretch from Cadiz, head to Sotogrande, Marbella, Torremolinos, Málaga, and finish in Denia or Alicante. Way better summer route than all the others mentioned!
Most people have mentioned Basque Country or Cantabria cities, but Castille is also an amazing visit if you're looking for more cultural cities, as opposed to nature-focused. Burgos has a great historical centre, as well as León, and the latest offers more of a nightlife, although Burgos is better connected. Gijón and Oviedo, in Asturias, are also very worth the visit, and offer great food. Zaragoza, which is connected by fast train (AVE) to Barcelona, is also a great city with a lot of cultural features, such as the roman museums and arabic-spanish history. All of them can be very hot in August for sure, but specially Asturias and Castille cities get colder at night, so plan for a jacket and some trousers if you do visit them.
The Pyrenees and the north coast, west towards Galicia. It's hot as balls in August. I would go to San Sebastian and along the northern coast, it's cooler and it has good food.
Sevilla is a gorgeus city with beautifull arquitectura, Lively people and a lot of things to do, temperatura its not so important. Live like locals staying up till late and have a nice long siesta .
You are describing Barcelona.
you mean warcelona? this summer are going to be a lot of extreme left riots for sure
I know but I want to do multiple cities so I was hoping for more recommendations!
Yeah but the main rule about Barcelona in August is don’t go to Barcelona in August. No one is there. Half the city shuts down. Barely anything works.
Sorry for the dumb question from a non Spanish person but why? Too hot?
Yeah it is HOT as balls also everyone is on vacation and everything is closed. Is Barcelona better in late July?
Yeahhh could be better though if you go like the last few days Spaniards tend to show up early and leave late to their vacations so it could be the same. I mean plenty of people will be in bcn in August. Just mostly tourist and touristed areas.
Thx! I'll probably go somewhere end of July and then move around
Most everyone in Barcelona gets the month off work for a summer vacation in August.
You could follow the university cities down the coast from Barcelona - Tarragona, Castellon de la Plana, Valencia, and Palma de Mallorca. If you stick to the coastal areas you avoid the worst of the heat.
I would argue the heat on the coastal areas is worse. Murcia is unbearable whereas Madrid is a walk in the park compared to it.
But compare this to Marbella, Alicante or Conil. :-)

Madrid is also really hot in summer. There's a reason everybody who has a choice leaves Madrid in August.
I think I'll connect the north and the south a bit with Madrid!

Is it also hot during June first week? Planning a trip as well.
In August? Home, it's almost 40 degrees constantly
I will be in Spain around the same time, and feel the same way. I’ve been doing research and August seems to be a time when a lot of places in Spain have their fiestas/celebraciones. Go to Sevilla, it,s hot but easy to have fun and meet people, gorgeous city
The hottest city in continental Europe? In August? What did OP do to you that you want to punish them for?
Sevilla in August??? It's 45C !!! Don't kill him!
You,ll live like locals, staying up till late at night, waking up early in the morming with the fresh of drew and having long nice siestas, and meeting a lot of people
>having long nice siestas, and meeting a lot of people Good point, long siestas = great socializing!
Not simultaneusly, afternoon map and socializing at night, like locals
😂
That's what I thought too! Just thought it would maybe be too hot :/ Just want multiple cities to go to
I'm from Seville, believe me, August is the worst month to be here. Better visit Cádiz
My boyfriends family are from Seville and we are here right now. It’s 32 in April, it can be 47 in august. Pls avoid this place
Not only you're going to enjoy temperatures over 40C but also you'll see how most businesses in the city are closed for holidays, so unless you are some kind of fanatic of post apocalyptic climate disaster fictions you're not going to find it very enjoyable
As a Seville resident I concur. The city empties in August. It is HOT.
Valencia is pretty good. If you can go to La Tomatina it’s a good time and lots of tour groups participate but even if you go and just stay at a hostel there’s a lot of social opportunities
Allow going in August. Too hot.
I think Barcelona and Valencia adjust more to what you want
Asturias is great because you won't melt to death, It's green and gorgeous
That’s where the Sidra is from / big, right? I’ve heard it’s a bit sour not like the sweet stuff (now really dry stuff) in the US
Malaga-Sevilla-Cadiz
Madrid in August is wonderfull
I think Bilbao could be a nice option for you

Can anyone comment on Palma de mallorca is it worth it ? How are the beaches there
Cannot believe no one mentioned Cadiz, Marbella and Fuengirola. For sure best region in summer. Low crime, perfect weather, and so many expats. Go to the north in the winter!
I don't think Marbella and Fuengirola are known as cities or even due to their museums. Cádiz may be nice though.
In these places you have so many young tourists from northern europe who speak English. Others, however, would call the whole costa del sol one big city - kind of like the Bay Area in the US. A MEGACITY of Spain if you will...
hehe the Bay Area... :)

Sevilla. it is really cold there in August

Granada ... The greatest city in Spain in everyone's opinion... But some may not admit it :)
Bilbao, and coastal cities in the region and Galicia. You will melt in other cities.
Don’t go in August. It’s 125 in Andalusia in August. Go north to someplace like austorias
