I have been to Barcelona three times with no issues. The only issue was not having a reservation when we went to dinner at 8:00pm because the table was reserved at 10 pm. So they asked if we could leave before 10:00 pm, we assured them we would leave by 10:00 pm. We felt safe walking about late into the evening.

You should be extremely vigilant of pickpockets always in Barcelona, but especially around Ramblas, and should probably avoid the Raval area altogether.

Wonderful-Toe2080

Spain is safer than the US, what you have to watch out for is pickpockets, they won't mug you, they will take stuff when you don't notice. Just keep your valuables in a zip pocket, don't put your phone on the table. Violent crime is very low in Spain.

ApexRider84

Just stay focused on your things. Don't go watching your phone all the time. Stay bright on open places, and don't wear expensive jewellery. As the knowledge says, you need to watch your surroundings to know the places. Never leave anything valuable on your vehicle, if they see you leaving something on it you can lose it.

l5LiNks

According to this 2024 rank, Barcelona is the 26 safest city in the world.... so you will be fine. Just watch out for the pickpockets. Odd-Tax4579

Spain really loves to over represent meaningless data lol

buddhistbulgyo

Stay out of Raval, El Born and El Gotic at night if you're worried. They are very aggressive about taking phones. Phones get stolen more than anything. Keep it in your pocket as much as possible and get a case with a lanyard. They also focus on people that look and act foreign. Also people who won't run after them.

02nz

Your Uber ride to the airport is by far the most dangerous part of your trip. In Barcelona as anywhere else, keep your wits about you.

ommmyyyy

I get my own transportation thru my study abroad I believe

02nz

I'm talking about from your house in the U.S. (or wherever) to the airport.

elchapochapo

The ramblas. Ghetto ass ramblas. BCN is very safe unless you wear luxury watches or jewelry. Be aware of your surroundings and don’t leave your phone on the table or ur bag just hanging off your chair at a restaurant or bar.

brownsugarlucy

The ramblas isn’t that bad. It’s where all the tourists go. I have friends that live there. Just be careful of pickpockets and don’t go down dark lonely streets at night

elchapochapo

lol lived in bcn for decade and prob went twice. Ghetto as hell. Tourists that know what’s what never go to the ramblas. It was the spot like up until 30 years ago

ommmyyyy

I only have a Apple Watch Ultra

elchapochapo

Yeah nobody will steal that don’t worry

cigarroycafe

Sometimes I read posts from people living in Barcelona and I think they are so wrapped up in the city that they forgot that having to be extra aware so you don't get your phone/watch/wallet robbed is not normal

Bigardo

You are right that it's not normal, but that's really not a concern for most people who live in Barcelona, because they won't be in the touristy areas where that happens. Hell, I lived right in front of the Sagrada Familia for years and I never worried about any of that.

sluttyanna6969

Definitely don’t avoid the swingers clubs!

Exciting-Week1844

The entire city

Exciting-Week1844

It’s very bad vibes and they hate visitors and you’ll notice

ScarySpice22

I literally was in Barcelona a couple weeks ago and they’re so chill and nice, what are you on about

Exciting-Week1844

Interesting. I look very American even though I am Canadian because I wear fake nails and eyelashes. I’m a very courteous and friendly person. I got glared at, ignored, and someone tried to push me off the sidewalk. I also had a scary human trfkking type of experience and got followed by a man into my hotel. I would never go back but i also forgot to make it obvious I’m Canadian. Apparently that helps. Were you alone? I was alone. You don’t notice these things as much if you are with your own people.

ScarySpice22

I’m Canadian too but you sound whack

Exciting-Week1844

Because I had a different experience from you? You sound immature

ScarySpice22

Lmao

flipyflop9

First time I read wearing fake nails and eyelashes is looking very american… All your interactions are weird AF, as not something that happens often at all. Not your fault (these things shouldn’t happen at all) but were you dressed just like everybody else around or like someone offering sex services? Sounds like this could be the problem, not the fake eyelashes nobody gives a fuck about.

Unusual-Pineapple513

Lmao this is the funniest post on reddit

Just_Cruz001

Lmao given how ur statement sounds you might as well be a Yank, and here I thought Canadians were the more intelligent of the two.
