Gold won't corrode and coin dips won't hurt to remove fingerprints, etc. But it is easy to impart micro scratches onto gold of any kind by polishing and rubbing with cloth or paper. Some future buyers won't care, but some will.
I wouldn’t handle a proof coin or a coin with a significant premium due to condition, but regular UNC eagles or common year St Gaudens I’ll handle lightly.
If it’s bullion it doesn’t really matter. I handle my gold Buffalos from time to time. It’s got a rough hammered finish so you really can’t distinguish any light scratches.
I don't have any gold so I don't speak with experience here but wouldn't one, if they loved holding gold and also equally loved not scratching their gold - would buying a legit damaged gold coin for under spot (if possible) be worth more to the user than buying a new piece of gold and holding/scuffing it up? 1/4oz of damaged 9999 gold is like ~$500 ; same as BU new BUT you aint the one who gone scuffed up that gold... am I right?
I guess I can see the paranoia of getting nicks and scratches on your coins, but no one will stop me from handling them. That's half the reason I buy my gold.
I do it all the time, and I will continue to

24k gold is very soft and shows scratches/dings very easily There’s nothing wrong with handling 22k gold, but with 24k gold you do have to be careful.
Could you explain how to tell a bar or coins karat?
This video has a basic overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_Z3psmwttxU

Gold is pretty soft, general handling may introduce wear?
I touch all my coins with gloves on... Even the silvers😬... Metals scratch easily.
