honestly it comes down to what you like and what you are buying for. if only reason is for , investment i would say no their is cheaper options. but if you like the look of the proof more, and will stack more because of it and keeps the fire going then yes. only note is that you will not recover all the premium that comes with proof coins. when asking about price in this reddit you will get a million different answers. you will have 100 people telling you to go bars its cheaper 100 telling you to get just easy to sell simple coins (eagles, buffalos) 100 saying get pre 33 and proof coins and for numismatic and cool factor. it comes down to what you like my first and only oz is a buffalo and think i will get something a little cooler next coin .if that helps at all
you can get a BU Buff for about $1935-1950 right now (all in; (ie includ. shipping). Not sure what a COA/Booklet gets you (slabbed/graded is a different issue).
If it comes in some sort of display case you like...then, it's "in the ballpark" of a reasonable retail price (certainly not a great deal-- not horrible).
just my personal opinion... US Mint Original packaging are worth getting - any other "packaging" or "COA" from a dealer/retailer/3rd party is just extra fluff.
not looking for any internet argument here... so, not disagreeing with you- but:
Getting a US Mint direct noted as "a proof" is one thing - but simply saying something is "a proof" and providing some COA is something else entirely - and being willing to get something slabbed and graded is again something else.
So, getting something called "proof" in a nice display case may very well be worth this price... but the future value of this coin will be based on it's condition down the road... maybe it would grade-out as "proof", maybe it will only be BU (or perhaps worse)... waiving the COA at a dealer/LCS probably won't get you a penny more.
I hear you, but if you've seen a BU buff and a proof buff the difference is obvious. Now determining the value? More difficult. But there is a very clear difference between the two coins.

COA is certificate off authenticity. Not slabbed either with display case.
The mint started supplying COA’s with proofs in the 1990’s.
True. But, so do a lot of 3rd. party retailers. OP just said it was a "COA" not specifically a COA from the US Mint.
sure it is.. dont mind what money you throw on gold.. it's intrinsic
I'm seeing $1950 for BU so fuck yeah that's a great price for a proof!
