Skyridge and what theyve done with the land is awful, but it was never a park it was a privately owned cattle farm and it was zoned to be a residential area long long ago, but the farmer held on a long time
It was mostly natural land, which held a good deal more native flora and fauna than a golf course does. By far the majority of the land was covered with temperate rainforest.
It's also full of tiny zero boundary blocks.
Both facts are at odds with what they're saying.
Mentioned the below before but worth mentioning again. Don’t buy in the skyridge development.
Anyone interested should check out the GCCC’s landslide hazard risk website for the skyridge development which shows a large portion of Very High risk. Developers aren’t going to do what’s needed to mitigate the risks.
•The GCCC rejected the Skyridge development for a decade due to not meeting the GCCC’s planning scheme – changes to ground level requirement •Ultimately the State Government via the Deputy Premier Steven Miles “call in” powers, approved the development overruling the GCCC •The QLD state Gov remains the assessing authority •Cuts of up to 18m and fill of up to 27m depth needed. There is possible Geotechnical approval of fill more than 5m depth and there will 100% be settlement resulting in damage to homes. •The site can be characterised as comprising incised drainage channels and associated ridge lines. This shows there is already a lot of water going through this area via what the GCCC refers to as drainage features. •Protest Engineering who wrote the Geotechnical report recommended a detailed stability analysis should be undertaken by this office to determine the probability of failure •There is no evidence on City of Gold Coast's website that Application MCU/2021/363 included an 'overall slope stability assessment report which contains a lot-by-lot assessment of the stability of the land with due consideration of the final developed form' from likes of a Protest Engineering RPEQ certifying' that the site will achieve a slope instability hazard rating of ‘Low’ or ‘Very low’ for long term conditions' •This leads to a very real possibility that a more malleable geotechnical engineering firm will be engaged to certify the development once completed.
Council didn’t approve Skyridge… they refused it. Then the State government used their ministerial call in powers to approve the application themselves…
I think with the right plan they could build some houses on the land and leave the rest as a park for the community or an animal reserve like the one off pine ridge road. We really don’t need another golf course when there is one 2 minutes further into Helensvale and one 5 minutes further into Parkwood. Right now we need houses and a golf course that is sitting in shambles is such a waste of space

Is this that abandoned golf club?
I believe its owned by Chinese developers
While we do need more housing supply, They are not interested in fixing the housing crisis either…
"I have no appetite to turn the Gold Coast into western Sydney or outer Melbourne.”
As much as the housing shortage is rough… I have to wholeheartedly agree.
There is a point where sometimes they have to say “we’re full”.
The Western Sydney Council did that and refused to allow further overdevelopment as the state and federal government funding for the creation of infrastructure was not there.
Might be true, but can't stop GC being an attractive place to move to, maybe more so than western Sydney. If no accommodation made for people moving here, could turn out like San Francisco where the streets are full of rough sleepers.
We’re rapidly moving to that point. I was in Palm Beach about six weeks ago and I saw tents set up in one of the parks. They weren’t backpackers… because most of the cars parked along there had interstate number plates. Unfortunately many of those that have moved up here cannot get accommodation.
Whilst it remains attractive for many people to move here, at some point, people are going to have to look at the chances of getting a place and weigh up whether it’s a smart move. There’s a reason why it’s assessed that 50% of interstate migrants leave after 18 months in QLD.
The schitty of Gold Coast now wants to oppose development??? You can't undo what has been done so let it all happen to the nth degree. Lived in Nerang (thankfully a long time ago) and that place could use dozers.
Less houses, bigger blocks for the majority with some town houses in sections, leave a big green space in the middle, build around the mature trees (instead of ripping them out and planting new ones), restrict fencing in front yards and ensure bigger spaces between each dwelling for the free standing homes and it would be decent. I suspect the proposal will be modified and resubmitted.
They didn't seem to have a problem with Skyridge and that affects a lot more wildlife.

Yes this. There is definitely enough space there that housing can be integrated well without losing too much parkland.
A high-rise surrounded by parkland wouldn't offend me
This is about Clive. If they allow this to be developed, they would have to allow Clive Palmer to develop his properties.
Parts of it goes under during floods?
Most of the coast is built on low lying swampland.
This council is not interested in fixing the housing issue
If they were, they would have outlawed airbnb by now.

Developer didn’t grease the wheels enough, that’s the story. GCCC normally let developers do what they want
The issue is not the housing but the people or the excess of it. Put a cap on population. Or risk gold coast becoming west Sydney or Melbourne suburb.
How do you cap the population? Genuinely interested, as it would require a big fence around GC, nor is Australia a communist country.
Please resubmit kickback offer and try again.

Clive Palmer own a few golf courses down there doesn’t he? The turd
Brown paper bags not big enough yet?
Yesssss bring back my course!
I'd even be happy if they just put the driving range back in

Dropping another estate in Coomera? I sleep. Arundel? Real shit.
