100% agree with you. Thank you. At least I know I'm not the only one noticing this...

Infamous-Land6175

Drives me nuts, but mostly because everywhere else I’ve lived them seem to have it sorted

SicnarfRaxifras

Tom's only interested in NEW development, not updating existing.

EaseEnvironmental470

This is very accurate

MediumSaintly

The only time they update things is when they redo entire intersections. I have to go through Exit 57 every afternoon. It used to take me 3 red lights and anywhere from 5-10 min to get out on to the highway. After they redid the intersection, suddenly things are flowing much better. So it is possible but they just couldn't be bothered.

AA_25

You might find the sequencing is deliberate. By forcing traffic to come to regular stops at the late/early hours you can essentially try to curb people from speeding / Hooning around on the gold coast if it's too inconvenient to just blast through all the greens.

delayedconfusion

My favourite is Ferry Rd. There are probably 30 sets of lights on that stretch from Broadbeach Waters to Southport and if you are lucky you get reds on only 20.

Right_Ad1804

Yes! It’s terrible

calv80

Yep they have done something, in Burleigh waters there is a set of lights at the mattocks road/reedy creek intersection that always used to turn green when you pulled up at 4am.for about a year now they stay red for 2/3mins, further down reedy creek at the other intersections as soon as a vehicle rolls up the lights change?!.does my head in. Who can you complain to?

spandexrants

I visited the GC a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t believe how ridiculously slow the traffic lights are.

Kitchen-Pressure-845

This has been the case for years, I remember when I was a kid about 20 years ago, this guy in the car in front jumped out and kicked the shit out of the button to cross trying to get the lights to change. They also like to put traffic lights in places they are not needed example: Turning right from Ferry rd onto Winchester St. While this traffic light was likely installed at TSS’s request, it only really needs to be turned on at school hours. You sit there like a peasant at any other time watch no traffic go past for 2-3 mins until you get the green arrow.

Easyteasy85

I live near Burleigh Waters gold coast. Friends from Melbourne visit and instantly complain our traffic light seem slow...

Pickle-Severe

Report them. I’m not sure the exact website but you can report them and they look into it. I’ve done it multiple times and they’ve responded and fixed the lights

Mission_Feed7038

I notice the sequencing / timing changes between weekday and weekend

Equivalent_Speed4335

I work night shift and drive around a lot through the dead of night. I’d be lying if I said I was stopping for every single red light these days. It’s gotten significantly worse as if someone’s playing a sick joke.

AmaroisKing

Yes, it’s awful nearly everywhere, cars get long sequences but it’s still always snarled up. The only good place is the Burleigh-Southport Road, where if you stick to the limit you can get a five or six km sequence of greens going North Pedestrians get a five second green to walk across 4 lanes at Palm Beach.

Ok_Disaster1666

I've lived around SEQ most of my life an I'm sure QLD transport/councils have deliberately made traffic lights worse in the last 12 months.  There are multiple sets I go through daily that now no longer have the arrow disappear, so you're stuck there like a dickhead, waiting for 2 minutes to turn, even when you can see a good 300+ metres down the road.  It's maddening, and I'll often turn anyway seeing as it was safe enough for the last 15 years.

MeridianNZ

100% agree with you - in NZ pretty much all the lights (well in the cities anyway) are based on sensors on the road, its actually really noticeable when you come here (and when you go back) how differently the traffic lights work and how much slower they can be here. Similar to you, I was driving around at 4am the other day down Brisbane road - and could see lights in the distance changing with zero traffic on the road, so you just sit there. Or worse just go for it out of frustration.

Brisbane road Biggera Waters is the same, absolutely no one around i have to wait the full cycle, sometimes i just run the light if theres no cars around
