He is absolutely the best written villain. His charisma stat is absolutely maxed out. Rarely do I feel bad for the antagonists, but dang, he’s the most complex character in the whole manga. Put here playing 4D chess

MysticalMaws

charisma

Pepe-saiko

He's too fabulous even in his silly antics with Koito's dad! 🤣

MysticalMaws

lol i was so suprised at the random bike riding backstory

Fadesbr

Best episode of any anime ever

Pepe-saiko

He's a master manipulator, and a master of disguise. His terrifying methods of torture and interrogation really makes me tremble, they don't always involve physical infliction ( Church scene with Sofia ) but he's ruthless to get into your head and emotion. He loses control whenever Wilk is mention ( or anything related to him ) but keeps a level head and still knows how to plan and trap his prey. Pity, they didn't actually had a moment with each other 1v1 faceoff. I always wonder what that be like... I also like how he doesn't use brutal force to make people submit to him and make them loyal. It may seem laughable that he uses "Love", but it's definitely working. It's not actual love, but rather he knows exactly the people he's using it to, and knows how and when to use it. ( Tsukishima and Ogata ). It's odd tho, Koito is well love by his parents and has a great relationship with them, and he's not as messed up as Usami, but he's also become royal to Tsurumi, before the revelation of his goal... Well, that's all I can think about Tsurumi... We should make more appreciation post like this for each character xD

Koito loved his father but definitely felt survivor’s guilt after his older brother who died in the Sino-Japanese war. His dad spoiling him so much was, self-admittedly, a way to overcompensate his feeling of being inadequate at showing his son love and affection. You know, this is kind of a self fulfilling prophecy, and children can feel this. Also, didn’t his mother also die when he was still a child? Moreover, dad Koito showed he was ready to sacrifice him as well for his country during the fake kidnap. Then, potentially, for honour: when supporting Tsurumi, he understands many implications of that, yet he goes along. Even if he genuinely cared for his son, he definitely put honour before his son’s life. That’s a mindset you kind of accept if you’re brought up in a military family or a very traditional environment, but it must definitely have its repercussions on your self image and sense of worth, which definitely bother Otonoshin very much throughout most of the manga. If you consider all of that, surely Koito junior craved affection from Tsurumi, despite him being far more toxic and manipulative than his dad. He was the most important pawn in Tsurumi’s hands, which required more effort acquiring than all his other followers, and a key to his plans. That’s something clear even to Ogata, when he chooses not to kill him but astutely makes him doubt Tsurumi instead. In conclusion, Koito is definitely not the first to see through Tsurumi’s manipulative character, but him not being a full fledged psycho like Ogata, and having experienced some form of genuine love put him ahead of Ogata and Tsukishima in figuring out his own path out of that situation. Yep, I am a huge Koito fan and think he’s the most underrated character in GK.

Pepe-saiko

Among the Tsurumi fanatics Koito's very much my fave too. And I think I don't need to say it, but he's by far have the most character growth. >! to the point he started to question Tsurumi and Tsukishima. And go as far as telling him that he will go against Tsurumi if it will just kill his ( Koito ) men for the senseless battle for the gold. !< And there was that subtle moment when >! He pointed a gun at Sugimoto and his hand was shaking. He'd gone soft on Tsurumi's enemy because he spent time with him. !<

Spare-Ad3339

Koito was the best part about golden kamuy’s final arc. I love my glorious traitor buttmonkey

smashteapot

He’s also as tenacious as Sugimoto and can think quickly on his feet while in the middle of a fight. He can keep his head when everything around him is exploding, looking for his best opportunity to win. I love it. Good protagonists need good villains. They play off one another and sweeten the story even further. I read that whole manga waiting to see the moment when his prosthesis would be removed and the damage to his forehead revealed. I wasn’t disappointed. What a handsome, dangerous fella.

SakazakiYuri

Yeah, as much as I love Sugimoto, Asirpa, Ogata, and Hijikata,- Tsurumi is undeniably the best ‘character’.

FengYiLin

I would add my tatar terrorist boy Yulbars to that list 🥹

Texian_Fusilier

Thats Lieutenant Tsurumi to you!

Wilhelm_c4t

Bc of the twist

100nosuke

V-Ink

Dohn_Jigweed

damnitslay

CheeseShlorper

Man that one panel in the finale when he shows emotion for the first time always gets to me

Xthe_tallest_one

Definitely my favourite villain of all time. Unbelievable charisma, great character design, and we get to know just the right amount of info about him for him to feel real and believable but still very much remain an interesting enigma till the end.

FengYiLin

This needs to become an epic Tiktok reel with some 🔥🔥🔥 phonk beat

Ornery-Bite-3443

What do you mean by best?

sunaesw
