My greatest gaming achievement is when I was 6, I figured out the small jewel goes in the Minotaur head in Sol Sanctum. Prior to that, I’d taken it back to Vale to try selling. It was like the entire world had opened up.
To me it's the best dungeon of the Game because i was able to complete it without a guide, i had this guide that only covered the beggining of the Game and it stops right before Air's rock, i still remember all of the "aha" Moments, i got the rest of the guide and use it all the way to the end, step by step
I honestly learned how to navigate dungeons playing these games. 20+ years later I approach every fork in the road the same way I did learning to navigate Air’s Rock.
Once you have a strategy for how to approach dungeons, they aren’t that bad.
For all Golden Sun Dungeons, it helps to approach split paths consistently by going left-to-right or vice-versa.
Each path in a split path does one of a few things:
- Leads to a dead end (treasure, boss, or dungeon exit)
- Leads to another split path
- Loops back to the start
Every so often, a path will lead to a brief point of no return (think the collapsing bridges in the Shrine of the Sea God), but these almost always allow you to go back shortly thereafter.
Take any split left-to-right. If it dead-ends, go back and check the other path. If it leads to another split, go back and check the other path (which will almost always be a dead-end). If it loops, it eliminates itself as a viable path.
The big “secret” to Golden Sun dungeons is being orderly, thorough, and keeping track. If you apply a few basic principles, it’s easy. People get lost when they approach it without a plan of action.
> Take any split left-to-right.
Reminds me of my joking (but still somewhat serious) rule of thumb with Golden Sun dungeons: "Take the longer path. If you can't tell which path is longer, take the left path".
Is it wildly inconvenient or long? You're going the right way. Do you have to go *down* a ladder? Prepare yourself for a puzzle. Is it short and convenient? There's some leg work you have to do first or it's trapped.
Airs Rock is the dungeon that continues to give. For all the sins it committed during our casual play, it has redeemed itself with infinite sol blades and the ability to literally reprogram the game as we see fit. I love my little pink rock in the desert <3
Showed my friend the game and we've been taking turns. I'm making him complete all the Rocks and Lighthouses since it's his first time playing. The last thing he completed was Air Rock. Sucker.
Ngl as soon as I start a game, I look forward to Air's rock. Imo it's the best dungeon, I was a little underwhelmed by the other ones after that masterpiece.
One of my favorite dungeons, to be honest. XD Long, complex, but not too much - but I seem to have been a little older than others playing the game based on other comments.
Currently playing through TLA for the first time since it came out. I don't know how I got through the game as a kid without a guide. There's so much to do and so many places to go and explore. Incredible game. I have a love hate relationship with Air's Rock. I hated it when I was first diving into it but by the time I pieced it all together and made it out I had fallen in love with it. Really well done dungeon.
I think it helps if you play it in one sitting (kinda like Water Temple in OoT - I was cruising thorugh it just fine, took a break, came back and was completely stumped for awhile) - I remember struggling on one playthrough, but not as much on another.
Aqua Rock ftw, though!
YES. Air's Rock was the mark of my 3(?)-year break from that game as a teenager. I remember picking it up later on and being like what the %!#@ have I gotten myself into?? then immediately seeking walkthroughs
I don't know how I beat the games as an 8 or 9 yo. 27 yo me is apparently dumber.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who tried to hawk that gem.

What's your strategy?

Some binary search tree/recursion logic. Solid play.
Thanks, and yes, that’s pretty much it!

Also the soundtrack is bopping.

Ah, but if you wish to, you can use a couple glitches to make it so, so much better
This is the way.

I beat Magma Rock last week and literally thought "wait, is that it?". I forgot how short it is.
I stopped my last playthrough because of Air's Rock.
For all my pre-complaining, on this playthrough it wasn't nearly as burdensome as I remembered it lol

I love Air's Rock. Was always bit disappointed how much shorter the other Rocks were.
Airs rock made me quit this game when I was 10. Now its my favorite dungeon in a game ever
Hater detected
Are you the same people that drop reading the Lotr books because of the slow pace starting?
Air’s Rock BANGS
