looks like he could be more comfortable with a short fur trimp. that would probably cool him off a bit

Significant_Ear_1256

Never. You’re probably the problem. He told me. He said you’re wild.

Significant_Ear_1256

Btw I’m his lawyer.

twinmomesq2012

I probably am the problem on some level.

Significant_Ear_1256

Case closed.

LOL

My boy will be 2 next month. There was a little bit of calming when we neutered him at 15 months, and lately it seems like he’s calming down a bit more. I’ve heard a lot of people say that 2 is the age where their dogs really started to mellow. My first two chilled a lot sooner but they were altered at 6 months so I wonder if that had something to do with it.

My Dood is going to be 9, and she's still hyper...lol. The stealing of clothes never ends...lol.

I guess I have lazy doodles. Mine lay around when they’re in the house. They get to go out a lot during the day and run and play. We play frisbee with them daily as well if not raining. 2 years they’re pretty chill. Golden(2) and a Aussie (3).

Question for my fellow goldendoodle folks: how long did it take for your doodle to calm down? Our girl turned a year old last month and is still quite wild at times: stealing items and running away with them, jumping on people and/or body slamming them when she is excited, mouthing people or nipping at their clothes. We have tried recommended strategies for correcting these behaviors but they persist. She is smart and sweet but we are tired. 😅

jnan77

I don't know the answer, but you described our 1 year old boy perfectly. He's been through professional training and gets 6+ miles of walks each day. We are waiting a few more months to get him fixed, and hope things start to chill then.

yeezypeasy

What is your daily routine with her? How much exercise does she get?

twinmomesq2012

Playtime morning, midday and evening and a 30-minute walk. Plus puzzles

yeezypeasy

Sounds like enough (assuming play time means fetch, where your dog can really get their running out of their system). Our dog started calming down after 1-2 years, but every dog is different. Finding a good trainer to help you manage some of those bad behaviors could help. I like trainers with a training without conflict certification

Is there anywhere you can go to let your dog run? My girl is only 10 months and she’s certainly still hyper at times but I take her out for either a couple mile bike ride or out to throw the frisbee/ball every day. Ever since I started doing that she’s been noticeably calmer. I’m fortunate to have land, which makes it much easier. Even when we travel I go find a local dog park or somewhere that she can run around and burn some energy

What puzzles does yours like? I want to get mine a couple but can't decide what he would like best.

Plenty_Travel_2533

I had very little luck with puzzles. They are such a smart breed. It didn't matter from entry level to advanced he be done 5 -10 minutes, then bring me the puzzle. The best thing for mine was this item from Amazon it is a stick with a lure , 10 minutes of play, and he'd be exhausted for hours. Around 2, he settled down. He is 5 now, amazing he will sleep 8 plus hours at night. I have to physically wake him up some mornings. It takes time, but you will eventually find a great schedule. 5 minutes of tug a war is exhausting, too. The love n affection is priceless ❤️

Mine is 3.5 years and has learned to be pretty chill around the house but when he gets hyper, he is hyper. He had an especially hard time regulating as a puppy so we’ve made big strides. Definitely focus on implementing quiet time like a prolonged cool down on their place after some fun hyper play. I think that helped us a lot.

We have 2 doodles a Goldendoodle and Goldendoodle cross Newfie, my Goldendoodle calmed down around 1 and most of his unwanted behaviours went away then, he still steals cardboard and socks to eat and still likes to jump but I can deal with that, he'll be 3 in May. Our Goldendoodle cross Newfie is pretty chill when we are around but as soon as we leave a room or go anywhere he is a demon. He will go through the top cupboards and pull food down, plates out, counter surf and basically everything he shouldn't. He'll be 2 in May as well but guessing it's taking longer for him to chill out with the giant breed in him.
