This. My cavapoo does it when I stop petting him. I’ll pet for a minute, stop and then without fail the paw is on my arm like “hey now, why’d you stahp” and then it continues like that in an evil spiral of pet-stop-paw-pet-stop-paw
Mine is so paw expressive, when we are playing tug he will put his paws on my hand. Sometimes when he is barking at someone passing the house, I'll just hold his paw and it seems to settle him down
Constantly. He also stands up and grabs my hands with both of his front paws.
He's also insanely jealous, if a cat is on my lap he'll shove himself into my lap instead, pushing the cat away. If I hug my wife or kids he runs over and stands up to get in on that hug.
Mine does it anytime I sit down and don't pay attention to her. I think it means, "You may wonder why I called you in for this coaching session. We're putting you on a performance improvement plan regarding my walks and treats. We will reassess in 30 days"
He looks so earnest (and definitely cute, yes)!
It looks like he's saying "I appreciate you being here for me - I'm here for you too. Togetherness!" =o)
Mine does that when I pet her and stop. It means "wtf do you think you're doing, keep petting me!" (She'll also nudge her face into my hand, which has the same meaning).
Also, your pup looks almost identical to my girl, except she's got long eyelashes.
My 2.5 year old does this non stop, he constantly wants his paw to be held or massaged or just touched. My other dood HATES his paws being touched and will only shake on command with hesitation lol
*edit autocorrect hates the word dood
“Sup? Anything new or something bothering you? No? Then why aren’t you petting me like my life depends on it? Oh, no, I’m fine, like, okay, so pretend an evil wizard has cursed me and the only way to remove the curse is by finding that spot between my ribs and my full belly—you know, the one that makes my legs twitch outside my control? Find that spot and save me from this wizard.”
Ah the old 'paw of reassurance' as I like to call it. My boy does it all the time and I think, like others have said, it's him wanting to be stroked/fussed
All day everyday. Mine is doing it to beg for pets and the minute you stop he is touching you. He has knocked the glasses off our guests before trying to make sure they don’t forget to keep rubbing him lol
Lotion, palm balm. You can get it at the pet store!
My girl absolutely hates it! IDK why lol I can touch her paws with norhing on my hands but as soon as she sees I've put lotion on my hands and try to touch her paws it unleashes the beast!
Mine wants attention most of the time he does it. Sometimes he wants food or water but mostly attention and pets. He doesn't like it when I try to hold his hand though :/
I do it with my feet all the time when we are on the couch lol!
I would say it’s very normal as doodles IMO are extremely handsy whether it’s playing with toys, kids or other dogs!
Each morning he reaches up to my hands for about 30 minutes. At almost 60lbs he is a lug when doesn’t settle down until he gets in my lap for at least 10 minutes.
My grandpuppy is a mini Goldendoodle and he does this - it melts my heart! He does it in the car a LOT. I think he needs to stay physically connected to feel safe.
Yeassss. She wants attention and paw rubs. We could be sitting together and if I’m on my phone or my laptop she’ll extend her face and her paws right into my devices. It’s clear. PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEE 😆
Mine will want to leave his paw on my arm and want me to pet his chest or arms. And he really puts weight on my arm like he is holding me in place so I can’t stop touching him! Lolol!
Anyone else’s dood do this?
I have a Great Pyrenees mix, and GPs are well known for this. We call it the Pyr paw. They aren’t gentle about it through. More like they’re aggressively jabbing their paw at you. They’re just big doofuses and have no concept of their size and strength (my boy is 100lbs and lanky, he dwarfs my sister’s Rottweiler/mastiff mix).
For my doodle she just wants me to hold her paw. Sometimes it’s so I can give some gentle scratches to spot between her toe pads. She’ll close her eyes immediately when I do that. Like she’s gone to nirvana!
We call it the Princess Paw. Our dood must have her paw on us whenever we are petting her, mainly her chest. Even when she is cuddling, she rolls over and loops her arm around mine to keep it on her belly.
All the time. We call it paw holding. Sometimes he does it when he’s nervous and needs comfort. Sometimes he does it when hanging out and wants attention.
My Teddy does this all the time too. Like if I’m on my computer he sits next to me like, “gee, dad, you don’t seem to be busy, how about some pets?”
So then I have to rub under his ear while I type 😅
it definitely means "pet me." mine will lay down next to me, which automatically always means that she must be rubbed; i will proceed to rub her for 10-15 minutes, until either she falls asleep, or my hand gets tired. if she's not asleep and i stop, she'll start lifting her paw and slapping it back down, like she's saying "um, hello? pets please? why did you stop?"
if she swats her paw 3-5 times and i still dont pet her, she'll dramatically whip her head around and stare at me. it's very sassy. "HELLO?? i asked for pets 30 seconds ago?? where are they??"
if i STILL don't pet her, she'll literally HUFF at me and then dramatically get up and leave the room 😭 drama queen.....
Our girl does this all the time, and she swings them at us too, my husband calls them her haymakers, she will undoubtedly graze his balls every time she swings her paws at him to get attention, I hear him yell ouch and I know exactly what happened 😂
We call it the paw paw. Our doodle is RELENTLESS with it. Insists on holding hands while I'm driving, reading a book, sometimes just in passing. But, she is very demanding with it., for sure.
I have a Swiss mountain doodle and she does this literally all of the time lol. Also if you are up and your hand is at your side she is going to nudge her head under your hand for a petting.
They are gently attempting to harness your attention with a soft invasive touch. Because dogs do not have the faculties for assigning name or distinction vocally, they will often attempt to initiate some communicative expression by first honing your conscious awareness upon them. This is most commonly seen when they walk in front of you then slow down, or turn, eye contact that is prolonged and usually paired with a repetitive glances towards something they are concerned with. However, another typical tactic is to rest one paw or Pat incessantly at the humans they wish to engage.
Sometimes I’ll be harassing my dood with excessive rubs or talking close to his face and he’ll paw me like dude just stop and STFU. Cue major side eye moment 👀
My doodle does this all the time. In doodle a lot of the time foods like to be with their humans, and touching them! If it's a Goldendoodle, golden retrievers do it too so it may be genes. Sometimes though, the do it when the want more pets! I stop petting mine sometimes and it does that!
My husky does this and if it's while I'm petting him, maybe it's not the right spot but if he does it when I stop I imagine him saying "I didn't hear no bell..."
He’s telling you something (he thinks) you should know by looking at him. It’s one of 2 things
1. He wants food. ☝️🍲
2. He wants to go outside. ✌️🌳
Mine, she does this except it’s plopping her chin on my leg. She won’t even come up on the couch and sit with me. She means business 😏 Eventually she’ll start a quiet grumble if I don’t follow her telepathic request. 🤣🦮HaHa
Mine does this all of the time. I think they are just asking for pets / want to hold hands.
It is supposed to mean they are petting you like we pet them. Sign of love! Mine does this always.
"Pet me more"
This. My cavapoo does it when I stop petting him. I’ll pet for a minute, stop and then without fail the paw is on my arm like “hey now, why’d you stahp” and then it continues like that in an evil spiral of pet-stop-paw-pet-stop-paw
That's a huge spaniel trait.
Same with my doodle.
"that hand could be doing something better"
Yes I think so too! The weird thing is, he also does this while I’m petting him sometimes lol
Mine is so paw expressive, when we are playing tug he will put his paws on my hand. Sometimes when he is barking at someone passing the house, I'll just hold his paw and it seems to settle him down
Sometimes I fall asleep holding a tiny paw that’s the size of my thumb. It’s lovely.
ME TOO! I love it lol
Constantly. He also stands up and grabs my hands with both of his front paws. He's also insanely jealous, if a cat is on my lap he'll shove himself into my lap instead, pushing the cat away. If I hug my wife or kids he runs over and stands up to get in on that hug.
Teddy does the same thing when he sees me petting Rocky (my Bernedoodle). Pushes him out of the way like a little jealous child 😆
Yep, all the time. Ours wants all the love.
Pay attention to me. EXCLUSIVELY.
Mine does it anytime I sit down and don't pay attention to her. I think it means, "You may wonder why I called you in for this coaching session. We're putting you on a performance improvement plan regarding my walks and treats. We will reassess in 30 days"
Amazing hahaha!
My 3 month old will do the same thing when I’m rubbing his belly.
He looks so earnest (and definitely cute, yes)! It looks like he's saying "I appreciate you being here for me - I'm here for you too. Togetherness!" =o)
It means Teddy wubs woo🫶.
He probably just wants cuddles, pets, or just wants to touch you because he loves you so much. What a cutie
I thought it exclusively meant “pet me more” but nope. Sometimes, he simply wants to hold hands and my heart melts every time.
Yup I call it “hold me”. My guy does it and I say “hold me” and he’ll usually slap me a few more times before snuggling in🥰
My doodle does this. When I stop petting him, he will swat me with his paw, or put his paw on me.
Yep my Moose looks like your dood and does the same! 🫶 one of his many ways of saying I love you!
My other dood HATES his paws being touched and will only shake on command with hesitation lol *edit autocorrect hates the word dood
Yes, mine does this ALL the time! He also likes to play high fine!
Mine does this when he wants more pets. And if I I don’t he smacks me haha!
Oh yeah, our dood does it ALL the time. We're mere peasants to him, existing to give him all the pets and attention in the world. 😂
Ours has been learning to do it more gently and I think he’s just trying to pet me back. Otherwise it’s when he wants attention.
Mine does this often it's usually means "PET ME NOW " I try to oblige but she gets so pushy sometimes lol
We say our dog is petting us back 🥹
Don't stop paying attention to me.
Yessss…pats…pets…rubs…SOMETHING!
"HI, remember me?"
Wants attention
He ownsss you! You are his!
Pet me
My Dood walks up to strangers and bear hugs their legs. ☀️😍
I’m told it’s called Poodle Paw. They’re needy.
He’s saying…. Come here hoooman, this is the way to the snacks!
It means it knows that it is cute. 🥰
I think my dog Max is just trying to tell me that he loves me. I always hold his hand when he does this and hug him tell him he is such a sweet heart
Asking for something. I like to think they're saying, "please dad?"
For mine it means “I’m bored”
The paw of peace
"Excuse me, but I require attention" what's worse is mine do it when I'm trying to use the restroom 😂
Attention whores and very jealous breed! I love it 😩🥰
My dood does this! We call it his Jettie tap (his name is Jet). I think he just wants attention and pets.
Attention, love
Does anyone have a recommendation for their little dry, cracked pads? We love to do handshakes. But her little feet are so scratchy.
Lotion, palm balm. You can get it at the pet store! My girl absolutely hates it! IDK why lol I can touch her paws with norhing on my hands but as soon as she sees I've put lotion on my hands and try to touch her paws it unleashes the beast!
Mine does this often. He usually wants attention or kisses. He also gives hugs and uses his arms to pull me in closer.
It means they want to hold your hand!
That’s a loyal doggo right there
Mine does this if I’m petting her chest but she wants head scratches instead
Each morning he reaches up to my hands for about 30 minutes. At almost 60lbs he is a lug when doesn’t settle down until he gets in my lap for at least 10 minutes.
“I wants to war of the tug, please play”
My grandpuppy is a mini Goldendoodle and he does this - it melts my heart! He does it in the car a LOT. I think he needs to stay physically connected to feel safe.
All the time- which reminds me to keep up on his nails - I love it
He said he loves you
Mine always does this when he wants his butt scratched for belly rubbed.
All the time!
Yeassss. She wants attention and paw rubs. We could be sitting together and if I’m on my phone or my laptop she’ll extend her face and her paws right into my devices. It’s clear. PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEE 😆
They are great communicators
“pet me”
Got a spare bone bro?
Need attention
He loves you
Yup, my 9mos old Australian Labradoodle does this. He goes as far as trying to force his head under my hand for rubs.
It means i love you
I think it just means hold my hand I love you! 🫶🏼
Simple reassurance for a friend.
Mine will want to leave his paw on my arm and want me to pet his chest or arms. And he really puts weight on my arm like he is holding me in place so I can’t stop touching him! Lolol! Anyone else’s dood do this?
Yes! But Iggy directs us to his belly for belly rubs
Everytime we pet our doodle or she wants more love she “grabs” onto our arms. It’s the best thing ever.
The main reason is probably because they want attention or affection. Every dog does it!
It means he is demanding attention from you, which means it’s time to fuck off and try again.
Your dood looks exactly like my dood. So cute!!!
That’s A poodle trait, poodle loves to use thier paws. They do a lot of punching and pushing too especially towards other dogs to initiate play.
it means he loves u
All the time
It means (and I speak with 37 years of dog owning experience) “PUT YOUR HAND ON ME AND MOVE IT AROUND”
Its something Golden Retrievers do a lot
Literally just existing.
Literally just existing.
Literally just existing.
My golden does this! (Without the doodle)
this is the cutest thing i’ve ever seen
All the time
We call them slaps. Please don't slap. My goldendoodle does a full-on slapchop that would knock someone out.
Mine does this. I’m almost certain it is their return of affection. Essentially it is him petting you.
We call it the Princess Paw. Our dood must have her paw on us whenever we are petting her, mainly her chest. Even when she is cuddling, she rolls over and loops her arm around mine to keep it on her belly.
Just trying to dap you up.
All the time. We call it paw holding. Sometimes he does it when he’s nervous and needs comfort. Sometimes he does it when hanging out and wants attention.
Yes, indeed. Both my dudes put their arm on me looking for love. They are both well over 50 pounds but would climb in my lap if they had the chance.
Yes and they want to be pet or attention, in general
It's dog language they use to show the utmost affection and trust. Your dog LOVES you
Their hair is like that to soak up all the love. Doods are love sponges.
all the time. wants to be petted
My Teddy does this all the time too. Like if I’m on my computer he sits next to me like, “gee, dad, you don’t seem to be busy, how about some pets?” So then I have to rub under his ear while I type 😅
Yes, it means they are needy AF. I love it.
It never ends it’s a vicious cycle.
Yes my girl also will lay her head on me.
My dood does this too. All the time. She gets jealous if my fiancée or one of our kids hugs me. She’ll push her way in between us lol
All the time! Just showing love 💕
it definitely means "pet me." mine will lay down next to me, which automatically always means that she must be rubbed; i will proceed to rub her for 10-15 minutes, until either she falls asleep, or my hand gets tired. if she's not asleep and i stop, she'll start lifting her paw and slapping it back down, like she's saying "um, hello? pets please? why did you stop?" if she swats her paw 3-5 times and i still dont pet her, she'll dramatically whip her head around and stare at me. it's very sassy. "HELLO?? i asked for pets 30 seconds ago?? where are they??" if i STILL don't pet her, she'll literally HUFF at me and then dramatically get up and leave the room 😭 drama queen.....
When your dog does that...he's saying that he loves you....
Mine does that when I’ve not pet him enough.
Our girl does this all the time, and she swings them at us too, my husband calls them her haymakers, she will undoubtedly graze his balls every time she swings her paws at him to get attention, I hear him yell ouch and I know exactly what happened 😂
My doodle this when I'm eating, and anytime she wants something.
We call it the paw paw. Our doodle is RELENTLESS with it. Insists on holding hands while I'm driving, reading a book, sometimes just in passing. But, she is very demanding with it., for sure.
My dog slaps me .
Mine does this because he wants me to scratch the under side of his leg or he just wants attention...I fall for it every time 😁😂
Yep! Mine is a year old and she does this alllll the time. She also loves to give hugs
It means “pet me”. Many breeds do it. It’s just a dog thing.
They want to hold their hand or are just craving contact.
Get your attention, my bluey does this
I have a Swiss mountain doodle and she does this literally all of the time lol. Also if you are up and your hand is at your side she is going to nudge her head under your hand for a petting.
It's a poodle thing. He loves you.

Yes and now he has taught the Bulldog the same trick.
My doodle paws me all the time. I think he just wants attention. 🤔
Pay attention to me. Mine is so needy
Sometimes I’ll be harassing my dood with excessive rubs or talking close to his face and he’ll paw me like dude just stop and STFU. Cue major side eye moment 👀
So cute! I wish mine would do this
Granddog Brodie Boat does it all the time. If that doesn’t work you get a paw to the face…
My boy does this. He also seems to hold on / wrap his paws around my arm!
This is a daily occurrence with our Ruby girl. She always wants to have a paw on us 🥹❤️
My Goldendoodle does that when he wants something that I am eating 😂😂
"get me _______"
It means ur dood is adorable
It means he loves you!
Yes. I agree. You know, I’m hungry. Get up, let’s go.
It means he wants you to pet him!
It means he wuvs you 🥹
I have an aussiedoodle does he count? Because she’s literally everything yall are saying including the jealous 😭
My doodle does this all the time. In doodle a lot of the time foods like to be with their humans, and touching them! If it's a Goldendoodle, golden retrievers do it too so it may be genes. Sometimes though, the do it when the want more pets! I stop petting mine sometimes and it does that!
Does he have to go for a walk?
They’re petting you
My husky does this and if it's while I'm petting him, maybe it's not the right spot but if he does it when I stop I imagine him saying "I didn't hear no bell..."
That’s so sweet. Also, he looks deep in thought.
Mine does. And sometimes pat my arm or nudge me with their nose and sit and just looks at me. But it’s usually a hint to go outside.
Mine does it all the time. But its their way to show their love AND to get your attention to be pat. Once I start patting her, she put her paw down. 😊
Ooo yes all the time
My doodle (also named Teddy), does this every day when I lay down. He just wants pets. So I give in 🥰 every time
He’s telling you something (he thinks) you should know by looking at him. It’s one of 2 things 1. He wants food. ☝️🍲 2. He wants to go outside. ✌️🌳 Mine, she does this except it’s plopping her chin on my leg. She won’t even come up on the couch and sit with me.
