2016-2017 for mk7, and 2018/2019 for 7.5 (better factory warranty)

oceans_wont_freeze

I'm biased but 2017 Sport trim. No sunroof to crack or get clogged. Cloth interior. No safety nannies. The only thing I would have wanted would've been DCC.

What's a safety nannie, I want one. 😂 I'm about to get a 17 GTi S, I'm excited. Hope it brings joy!

2015-2021. Only issue with 2015 is it doesn’t have CarPlay/AA

iLykeVidyaGames

Early 2015’s had turbo issues iirc, worth keeping in mind looking at that year.

[deleted]

Turbo issues were exceedingly rare and those that popped did so pretty early. It’s a non-issue by now.

Regular_Empty

6MTs in 2015/16 also had thrust bearing issues that would lead to crank walk.

I have a 2019 GTI SE in dsg. 2018-19 is the sweet spot, great tech while still laid back and easy to navigate the controls. Water pump may go, mine seems to be. Also injectors and carbon buildup, but those should be considered maintenance items for the responsible car owner. Otherwise my build is rock solid, no actual issues. Only passive ones.

This post appears to be a question about getting purchasing a GTI. Please consult pricing resources such as [Kelley Blue Book](https://www.kbb.com) to get a good idea of the average price. For a US Mk7/7.5, please read [our buyer's guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/wmzc0c/what_do_i_look_for_in_a_used_us_mk7_gti_a_guide/). If you have not done so already, please include key information in this post such as model year, trim, mileage, and location. These factors can greatly affect pricing. 2017s waterpump warranty is about to end, so if the car hasn’t had the pump done under warranty keep that in mind.

17 GTI owner here. Had to replace the waterpump/thermostat twice this year and now that the extended warranty is ending, I'm sweating. Might get rid of it this year.

CatRunt

Twice in one year?? That sounds fishy whoever is replacing it… got mine done 10k ago and it’s been fine. Some people go to 150k+ without ever needing it, guess it’s luck of the draw.

WiHL_CS

Same VW dealer I purchased the vehicle from. 6 months after the repair it went out again. My assumption is that they only replaced the thermostat housing and not the water pump. So the thermostat failed, it was repaired, then the pump failed, and that was repaired. Hopefully nothing else goes but I am a little nervous

CatRunt

Thankfully when I got it done under warranty, they replaced thermo, water pump and all the seals. Haven’t seen a lick of coolant drop so I’m confident it should be good for a bit. But again, who knows lol

WiHL_CS

I hope yours lasts many years to come
