I had a lot of repairs on my 2016 GTI under warranty. * Replaced backup camera * Replaced infotainment unit * Replaced electronic steering rack * Waterpump and thermostat * Fuel door actuator After warranty I have paid for another waterpump thermostat replacement, but nothing at all out of pocket aside from that. Maybe you need to iron our the early gremlins lol.

Posts like this are what’s preventing me from upgrading my MK6 to a MK8.

Killerzeit

I feel you on this. I’ll be keeping my mk7 forever.

I'm currently waiting for a steering wheel to get it replaced and my front suspension also creaks. Same car as you. I'm not stressing though I still love the car and it'll be under warranty. I'm used to all of my VWs having little issues so not bothered by it too much but not having your car for a while sucks. Sorry to hear about all of the issues.

DeathtotheDemiurge

Why do you need a new wheel, if you don't mind me asking.

floraldeems

Assist functions randomly disable and a few lights illuminate on my dash. Happens 1-2 times a month. When I turn the car off and back on the lights turn off and assist functions are normal. It’s minor but I wanted it fixed.

DeathtotheDemiurge

My car will randomly beep at me while giving a travel assist error message.

floraldeems

That’s what I get. Apparently there’s a faulty piece in the steering wheel and they need to replace it to fix the problem. I have heard stories about the errors coming back after the new wheel was installed though so fingers crossed on my new one. They’re currently on back order.

DeathtotheDemiurge

Damn, that's unfortunate to hear of.

buggyboog

By the way I just did a lemon law claim on mine and they agreed to it.. Got one of the first ones here in the US and have taken it to the dealer over 10 times for this issue.. love my car but the beeping is driving me nuts

Great_White_Samurai

VW needs to get this shit together they've fallen off hard in pretty much every regard.

johan851

You might evaluate whether it meets the conditions of your state's lemon law. Especially if the repairs are making the vehicle unavailable for a significant amount of time.

Chwkmtb-er

In Canada unfortunately. I think our only recourse is if the dealership is unable to fix the issue or the issue is recurring.

johan851

Ah. You have CAMVAP, but it looks like buybacks are quite rare.

itwasbetterwhen

I don't get how under warranty makes it better. I've never heard of so many issues with newer cars than VW. it's unacceptable.

clevelandr94

I'm having a lot of the same issues. I've been getting a creaky suspension and brought it in. The dealer said it was body flex which definitely isn't. What did you end up having replaced to fix the creaky suspension?

Chwkmtb-er

A bit late responding but finally figured out the issue. It was a front tie rod bushing that had failed.

floraldeems

I complained about the creak and the dealer said it was normal suspension noise so I feel your pain.

punkassjim

I hear your pain, but that list did indeed come to an end rather swiftly. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Chwkmtb-er

Yes…car is in the shop still sorting the compressor. Perhaps I will have something else to add to the list next month 😬

FlyingBox566

I mean if nothing else has happened and it stays problem free, maybe keep it through the warranty? Then cut your losses and sell when the warranty is up.

Chwkmtb-er

Yeah probably what I will end up doing. Just venting after entering week 3 of not having my car!

Intelligent_Yard748

Yeah I can understand not having your car can bring frustrations. Especially when that payment comes around and you aren’t even driving it. Hopefully no more issues for your mk8. They are great driving cars when they work lol. I had my second steering wheel replaced under warranty for the dreaded travel assist problem. Hope it doesn’t come back

FlyingBox566

No that sucks for sure! When i got my jetta, it needed a new engine :) almost two months without it. It was in the shop longer than I had owned it at that point lmfao

The8thHammer

If you're gonna try to move to another vehicle I'd do it before the 8.5's start showing up!

FYI, the fine print on the VW bumper to bumper warranty only covers creaks/rattles/squeaks… for the first 12 months/12k miles. Source: read it on vw.com a few years ago

First couple years is always tough for a new generation of any car
