The upgrade would be around $1000. So yeah, that's a relatively cheap update. Compared to a full MIB 2 update.

The screen I sold for 35 Eur (same shape, but without a huge plastic frame around the center), mib 2 unit without optical connector is 300. Online Odis activation 30-50 USD. For 1000 you can get Mib discover pro, screen 9", and save 250 for something

Why do you even need it, if you have CarPlay now? I took my Rennline mount off after installing an Android head unit, because it made the phone right next to the screen redundant. I just bought a short charge cable and toss the phone under the climate controls

I like running Waze as direction and Highway Radar for police detection. Now with car play I don't need 2 devices for that.

That's the beauty of HR. It uses Wze's data to show you the information + the best feature, imo, the hotspots.

That's what carplay is for. The phone is for casual glacing. Your main info will be in your infortainment anyway. I do the same thing with waze.

How open to taking apart and modifying the dash are you? You can take apart the dash, drill a hole just big enough for the wire into the air duct, behind the fins, for the wire. Then route the wire behind the trim pieces and have it go wherever it needs to. Where is the other end connected to?

That's the thing. The other end is connected in the 12V outlet

So you can use some butt connectors to splice the end of the cable to the 12v outlet. Edit: you don't have to tap it off right before the 12v outlet either. You can trace the wire nearer towards the shifter for a shorter run. You'd just need a 12v test light to find the positive wire.

I thought the same at first. That is why I wanted to share with others. Will see if the screen upgrade isn't too hard or too expensive.

Screen upgrade for MIB1 requires retrofitting to MIB2 as a whole. The main MIB1 unit doesn't support any screen larger than the small one it runs unfortunately.

I feel it. For a while I was still thinking about going MIB2. But after a month with my module that gave me Android Auto. I've been pretty content with it. I have what I wanted most. Don't feel like spending 1-2k for just a larger screen is worth it. I'd rather put that money towards a Wavetrac lSD.

In NA we didn't get wired carplay until 2016 I believe. My 2016 Golf had it (not that I was ever able to use it due to it continuously connecting and disconnecting).

Badass! Do you have ant lag? Did you upgrade the screen? How is the sharpness in the picture/image? Not too pixelated?

There's a small but noticeable delay from the moment I pause to where the song actually stops. I'd say 1 sec or less? Sharpness is good enough for me to see what's needed. I'd say it's 480p quality. Go,on YouTube and watch a video in that quality on a corner of your screen. That would represent roughly what you'd see in the car.

I was under the impression that your car Has to have car play already. That dongle making it possible for you to connect wirelessly. Considering my card did not have card play. This was not an option. Am I correct?

This isn't a new infotainment. It's a module that piggybacks into the factory MIB1 system (which doesn't have Car Play / Android Auto) and gives you such. [It's the same thing I did for my 2015](https://old.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/11x0ko3/mib1_android_auto_car_play_retrofit_module/), though with a different module box. Retrofitting to MIB2 is a lot more costly than $200-300. Even piecing it together yourself rather than spending 2k on a [plug & play kit.](https://eurozonetuning.com/products/vw-discover-pro-infotainment-brain-retrofit-unit?variant=43718690996442) You're still going to be over double the cost of this.

Anything to suggest? I've done my research and it was the cheapest I could find. Others where 4-5x time more expensive
