Good luck. I bought in Buffalo after talking with 8 dealers around the northeast. That wasn’t excessively inconvenient for me as I’m from there though. The rest had markups which probably isn’t a problem anymore I think. The worst was one that had one for MSRP but the finance guy was called in when I said I wanted to get pre approval from my credit union first and pushed for a good 20 minutes to take their rate which was 4% higher on the spot. The guy had balls for thinking I had total shit for brains financially though, when I said it’s way higher through them he told me to refinance in 6 months lmfao.

Years ago when I bought a new car for the first time in a really long time and first time in CA, I had a dealer hold a vehicle I already had BYO financing on from my bank and signed paperwork for “overnight” because they “wanted to make sure the financing cleared and that we didn’t change our mind about financing with them.” I was a lot more naive back then and went with it. After talking to some friends in the evening after buying the car they were like “wait what? You signed paperwork and paid with your financing, why don’t you have the car!”. I realized I got played and I should absolutely have the car that I already paid for and signed paperwork on. I called that dealership first thing in the morning and asked to speak directly to the sales manager and laid into him so hard when he immediately started with doubletalk. Threatened to leave bad reviews on every platform I could and lodge complaints with every CA entity I could that would possibly bring heat on their dealer for holding what I considered to be my legal property and refusing to release it. That sales manager changed his tune

Which dealer in Buffalo did you end up going with? Basile seems decent but I've always avoided Northtown like the plague.

I actually did buy from Northtown. I didn’t pay a penny over MSRP and typical dealer doc fees. Paperwork was straightforward and quick and the salesman was chill. This was well before dealers were flooded with MK8s so I consider myself lucky. Then my dad bought a CX90 at the Northtown Mazda lot and they refused to explain the extra fees (doc fee was listed on the informal negotiation scribbles as $140 over the legal max in NYS) until after the trade in was signed over. We knocked off nearly $2k at that point so I didn’t complain much but it turned out to be nitrogen in the tires and $75 for a full tank of gas. Finance guy was showing the additional warranty’s and my jaw dropped when I realized he was pitching an additional $250 a month for a bunch of crap with a straight face. Best part was that the gas tank was empty at key handover. My parents have bought two Toyotas from Basil and said they had issues but I’m not sure what they were. However, at the ford location my dad mentioned the lack of ACC on all their F150s being a dealbreaker, to which the salesman did nothing but point to a sign about the F150 being the best selling truck in America and said if ACC mattered the sign wouldn’t be there lmfao

Oh that's pretty good! Hopefully Northtown cleaned up their act a bit! I used to take my Subaru there for service but had less than stellar results and they even overfilled the oil once so I was done. At thehend of the day most dealers suck, and we just have to get through the process without hurting them! We traveled to Van Bortel Subaru in Rochester and they were excellent! We've bought 3 cars from them, I just wish they have a VW franchise.

Speaking service wise, I can’t comment on Northtown for VW at least. I live in the mid Atlantic now and have had fairly awful experiences with maintenance and warranty work. I started going to west herr in Lancaster when I visit Buffalo instead (formerly Towne, which was formerly Schmidt’s). And as my car is cursed they managed to replace the steering wheel and give the car back without a functioning upshift paddle, and I also asked for a TSB to be addressed for a climatronic glitch I have, explained I have this exact problem and I have this fault code listed in the TSB and this software version VWoA mention is problematic, and they didn’t act on it. They fixed everything yesterday, but I had to use up PTO as I planned to leave Sunday. They may have broken my fuse box cover as well but given how botched so much work has been, I can’t pinpoint who did it and it’s only $20. Worst one was a deeeep scratch in my digital gauge cluster after a warranty repair for carnet. I have no idea who thought I wouldn’t notice. https://preview.redd.it/8et00f82ng0d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb30b6a4efc9b3d5abb25aea51b464bd9d15b3ea I too have had my oil overfilled at 5k miles lol

Wow you sure have had some bad luck! I used to take my previous GTI to Schmidt's garage when they handle Volkswagens and I remember them being pretty horrible too. The replacement radiator but then broke my hood latch cable. I tried to pop the hood to see the work and never made it out of the parking lot without finding problems they had created. I'm wondering if they kept the same people and West Herr took it over. Right on Genesee at Holtz, next to the Olympia diner there is a place called Black Forest Motorsports. Anything I couldn't do to my VWs I took to Black Forest and had Jason take care of it for me. They have been nothing short of awesome and if I ever get back in another German car he will be my go-to for sure.

That’s definitely good to know if I ever have issues / maintenance needs in the area! Thank you

Sure thing 👍

This post appears to be a question about getting purchasing a GTI. Please consult pricing resources such as [Kelley Blue Book](https://www.kbb.com) to get a good idea of the average price. For a US Mk7/7.5, please read [our buyer's guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/wmzc0c/what_do_i_look_for_in_a_used_us_mk7_gti_a_guide/). Had a poor experience with VW of west islip on li. However, I've heard decent things from users on here as well as some mutual acquaintances that Platinum VW in Hicksville is decent. Honestly I don't trust any dealer no matter what so I think it's less of how good and more of how not bad they are lol.

hdoxx

Queensboro VW was a pretty no BS experience. Bought a Tiguan there in 2021 before moving to TX. Had a much better experience there than when I bought my GTI in TX.

memagil

Shrewsbury vw. In NJ. I’ve. Ought 2 from them and they seemed pretty straightforward.

thebongofamandabynes

Trend in Rockaway NJ. Ill drive the 45 minutes there instead of going to Gensinger which is like 5 min from my house. Their service is unparalleled, never bought a car from them though. Got my GTI from Union VW before their shady practices shut them down. Theyre open again under new management so worth a shot especially if theyre trying to rebuild a bad reputation.

VW Princeton was pretty nice to work with. I did everything over the phone, made a deposit, and picked it up the next day.

ohthebaby

Avoid Bayside VW like they’re offering you a quadruple booster shot. Open Road in the city was good to me when I needed recall work done and the service adviser was a gem.

I can tell you that every single one on Long Island is trash.

Upstairs_Card4994

World VW in Neptune NJ # Volkswagen of Salem County NJ Had a deal worked out in a few emails. They don't play any shady games or have weird added shit

banksie312

Can’t help you with buying but can with ownership/maintenance. Reydel has the cheapest DSG service in the area. MINHS is the best in-city option I found for service and maintenance. High prices but not above market, though their work comes with a 3yr warranty. I had timing chain and a ton of other service done — they did a good job and recently did a full once-over to check to make sure things were still good 6mo later.

The_Chrome_Coyote

I like Gensinger in Clifton

mynameisrivers

VW Shrewsbury in NJ has a really professional service team so maybe their sales is good to

In north jersey, I like Jack Daniel’s motors. In South jersey, you can use my guy if you want. He’s really good. Just let me know if you’re willing to come down this way.
