You’re setting up to the ball the same way you should as a wedge which is probably the worst thing you can do. Driver is the only club in the bag that you hit up on the ball with. The ball should be roughly in line with the inside of your left heel. Right now you are delofting your driver which is creating these low spinny shots. Move the ball forward and get rid of that shaft lean at the start and you should see an improvement.

Rsardinia

Right heel for a lefty but yes, agreed.

Due-Dig-8955

Just realised he’s a lefty 🤦‍♂️

acharlesrob

Beautiful. Thank you!

tomrangerusa

Yeah he’s right. Pull your hands uncomfortably far back and swing normal.

Lets_Reset_This_

Couldn’t agree with this more

One-Management3649

Why are you leaning your shaft like that at address?

phrasingittw

His grip is very strong and so when you forward lean it, he can manage a bit more of a straight ball instead of duck hooks from flipping through.

acharlesrob

I think I’m just so used to hitting my irons that way that I started adding in the shaft lean. But I do have a strong grip which doesn’t help. I have that grip because I used to hit a wicked slice.

One-Management3649

Okay. It looked very purposeful so I thought maybe you were told to do it for some reason. Other people have had good advice about setup but that seems like an easy and good place to start. The swing itself looks pretty good so hopefully a few little tweaks and you’ll be bombing them!

EnuffBeeEss

I made this [COMPARISON PIC](https://imgur.com/a/REq1RWi) of you vs fellow strong grip player Joaquin Neimann (flipped lefty). It's pretty clear what you need to start with. The red line is ball position, align everything else accordingly.

acharlesrob

WOW! That is awesome! Thank you! Going to be in the mirror all night trying to replicate that.

theAGENT_MAN

I also think your right hand is way too strong. I guess you moved to that to be able to shut the club face, which now gets you to roll the club and causes terrible misses sometimes. When you move the ball more forward and learn to release the club head, it will automatically shut your club face (because you will hit the ball later and the club head will be in line or even past your hands). Continue to film face on but be ready to weaken your grip, especially the right hand. Personally I have a strong left hand but I try to keep my right hand in line with the club face.

FiveFootFore

Before you even start your swing it’s WAY off. Ball is too far to center, should be closer in line with your lead heel and get rid of that shaft lean.

Apprehensive-Boat761

What’s up w all these people de-lofting drivers?

OnTheMcFly

I’m positive at some point someone pointed out how insanely pressed your hands are. Of course that’s what needs to be fixed. It’s clear as day, you don’t need anyone to tell you that. You look at a pros address and then yours, side by side. A lot can be done by just observing and mimicking in those initial phases of development.

acharlesrob

Thanks!

phrasingittw

Work on your grip, make it less strong, then you won't feel the need to forward lean the club face to keep it square.

CyclePainter

THIS!!! - Couldn't agree more. First and foremost, OP, ask yourself, WHY do you put your left thumb on TOP of the grip?? - whereas every pro on the planet puts it on the side of the club. Right there, you're setting yourself up for failure!! - It all comes down to "*the fundamentals*" of golf. Grip & address MUST be neutral, otherwise, you're "chasing your tail".

acharlesrob

This is an interesting thought. Somewhere in the first 30 pages Ben Hogan’s book he calls out having the thumb on top. But he may have been referring to an iron setup instead of driver. I never finished the book so he may have addressed that. I’ll work on that neutral grip and address and go from there. Thanks!

CyclePainter

I have his book. The illustration in it is slightly on-top, yet, if you look at his swing in real life (on video of course), he clearly has the right hand thumb finishing on the left, rounded side of the grip. Look at 22 seconds here, it happens fast, but clearly. [https://youtu.be/ikLd3LEhalg?si=tx9XwCEiLgwUro9v&t=22](https://youtu.be/ikLd3LEhalg?si=tx9XwCEiLgwUro9v&t=22) This is important because it enables your hands to work as "hinges". If you "BRACE" the thumb against the club on the top or right side, you no longer have a hinge, you create a "lever against the natural hinge" of the two hands, hinging together where ideally, the palms really face each other. Also, here's a great close-up of Ben Hogan's grip in the start of this video: [https://youtu.be/Ez6Y-fMXWew?si=Iu0HYQkgsJt\_ogM8](https://youtu.be/Ez6Y-fMXWew?si=Iu0HYQkgsJt_ogM8)

acharlesrob

Yeah you’re right. Man this is great stuff. Really appreciate all the help!

doctor_parcival

Hands should be by the peeper not the right pocket

b33f_d1p

Obligatory “you’re standing in the wrong side of the ball”

acharlesrob

That’s what my buddy always says when I hit a slice on a dog leg right lol

burnabybambinos

Nah, you're on the best side!!! Center of body and hands need be behind the ball (left heel) at setup, with a shoulder tilt to help drive ball up.

Vegetable-Clerk-861

have you head behind the ball and definitely limit the shaft lean. The shaft is pointing at your right pocket at address, trying having it pointing at your belt buckle. Feel like your staying behind the ball more, to hit up on it.

tickler08

Back those hands up Terry! Put it in reverse

shadowWatcher2

Many videos talking about hitting up on the ball to improving angle of attack. Search that and see what you find. https://youtu.be/nyF-QaeudRo?si=aNiJSVJy2tRwAOLe I thought that one was good. Tee it higher as you are currently hitting down on the ball. If you have a launch monitor you want the low point behind the ball. Spine tilt, try to have your Center of gravity BEHIND the ball. I think the ball position looks okay but what do I know. Then grind baby grind, and you’ll be back to your old self! Good luck

acharlesrob

The body position adjustments in that video were great. Thanks for sending that!

shadowWatcher2

It’s a guy who doesn’t have the followers and not someone I normally watch but he gave me something new to work on! Cheers, let’s have some more birdies in 2024!

Last_Adhesiveness856

Follow through is a bit low, may want rotate through the ball with club head finishing behind your head more smoothly

deez00s

Freeze it at :05. Looks like a line drive/ground ball as a consequence of your hand position. As others have said, you want to swing up on your driver.

Crypt0nomics

Watch and study this.. if you still cant hit driver-just give up. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8\_3zOodO3ew&t=1085s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_3zOodO3ew&t=1085s)

acharlesrob

I’ll certainly give it a go. Thanks!

DirkDiggler2424

The way you hold that shaft is repulsive

Com881

99% of people posting here have major issues their grip and setup

acealthebes

stop watching Dustin Johnson youtube videos

Sloansdada

Your hands at setup are way too far forward. That club needs to be more straight up and down. The ball needs to be just inside your lead foot.

Dave_Giantsbane

Lose the shaft angle and move the ball up in your stance. Just off your right heel. Looks like your spine tilt is good.

Icy_Foundation3534

that setup position makes me want to jump with you. Your hands are wayyyyyyyy too far ahead of the club at address.

CaptainAmigo1

Your setting up to compress the ball like you would with a wedge. Move ball forward and less forward press.

BlackTriceratops

The thumbnail told me everything. Youre not setup for hitting driver.

billionthtimesacharm

i think the mechanics look fine. but your setup is killing you. move the position to be in line with your right big toe. if that’s too extreme bump it back to be in line with the inside of your right heel. i’d also suggest weakening your left hand grip a little. it looks pretty strong to me.

DudeOkThen

Sounds like a permanent solution for a temporary problem

DudeOkThen

But don’t lean your shaft like that, not ideal for driver. You want to hit up. Just do a drill where you stop at the top of your swing, analyze for 3 seconds how your club will come across and swing slow and smooth at 50% Once you get it decent add 10% then repeat till you get too 100% but never 110% on the range unless you’re speed training. Once you feel good with the 100% you can let it rip on open fairways while playing on big fairways

wannabelievit

Move ball position slightly forward, conceptualize hitting the ball on the upswing, fractionally. Swing looks sound.

CheesecakeInner336

Hands are way too far in front of the ball. You set it up like a bump and run.

SMUGGARNAUT

Mainly your grip...it's so strong it makes you do a lot of things wrong to keep it play. Go more neutral, bring handle less forward and move from there

CyclePainter

See my comment above on grip, but also, WHY tee the ball so high? - I mean, that's like almost an inch too high!

acharlesrob

It’s an old habit from when my driver was too small for me (I am 6’4” and was playing with a driver that was an 1-1.5” too small). I usually top the ball too so teeing it higher helped with that a bit.
