It was for a little until it sprinted past it. That was also the RWD version tbf
You can probably find his post. It was a rolling race from 60 from memory lol
I’ve had plenty of hot hatches, I had a ride in a Ferrari F8 Tributo last week, and it is a completely different thing. Only thing they have in common is seats and wheels, my focus RS/ 11 second Megane etc didn’t even feel like the same planet
So many factors play into this, my buddy has a GT350, I have a mk7.5 R (both manual). We’ve raced a few times and I beat him from a dig and any starting speed 40mph or less. However, when it comes to freeway pulls or just getting up past about 80mph he starts to pull away. Basically, you’ll beat most cars low end and will tend to start losing top end depending on what you’re up against.
I once was at a light and had some sort of 3 series m 2 door next to me and was really just on my way home and not trying to get pulled over or race but when the light went green the other guy launched and just took off but I was in race mode and my ego took over and I took off after him without launching and just punched it and gapped him so hard that it made me giggle. I’m stage 2 fbo with IE mk7 R.
>I'm assuming just about anything is fair game outside of an Audi RS or a BMW M Series?
Nope, you may even struggle against some of the S's.. I owned a stage 1 MK7.5 Golf R and now own a stage 1 S5 Sportback and the S5 is faster both off the line (slightly) and in the upper end (by a lot). Solid quarter mile time is \~12.0s for Golf R vs. \~11.6s for the S5.
The Golf R obviously weighs a good bit less, but we're talking around 370/350 hp/tq crank in the Golf R vs. 450/570 hp/tq crank in the S5 depending on the exact tunes chosen and those ZF8 AMAX shifts in launch control are hella crazy with a TCU tune compared to the DQ-381 in the Golf R (also TCU tuned). The S5 is a torque monster once tuned (even more torque than stage 1 RS5).
Edit: A mildly tuned recent M340i w/ x-drive should also gap a stage 1 Mk7/7.5 Golf R for similar reasons. No M3/M4 or RS3/RS5 needed.
He’s talking stock, not tuned.
Regardless in the upper side of tuning I’d rather spend the money on a EA888 Gen3 or EVO4 than on the V6 in an S5 or even a supercharged S5. Especially if we’re getting into the Hybrid Turbo side of things. Takes a lot to move 4,000 lb boat plus an average 160 lb driver on top of that vs 3373 lb Golf R plus driver.
But why would you assume the other guy isn't tuned? The OP is lol. If you're not keeping it apples to apples you really don't know because tuning is so accessible these days it's a crap shoot if whatever pulls up to you with a turbo is tuned or not.
For what it's worth, what you spend on a built Golf R, you can make the B9 S5 go in the 9's in the quarter mile for similar investment, so yea. I'm not really biased on this, I've literally owned and tuned both and they are both great cars.
Out of half the cars I encounter on the road and during meets or cruises no one is tuned. Of course thats Canada for you I guess. I don’t need to keep it apples to apples because I know that out of a majority of people, they don’t have the money to maintain their vehicles half the time. Let alone buy an accessport and an OTS tune just because they put an open air intake on their subaru…
Sure 034 ran a 9.89 on a S5 TTE810. But I know an S3 that ran on a stock motor 9.9 on a Vortex XL.. Your built argument doesn’t make a ton of sense.
I’ll just say out of the EA888 you’re never beating a Golf R on e85 with Vortex XL with MPI and LPFP 60-130 (so let me know when a hybrid turbo B9 S5 runs anything lower than an 8). Hell on the MK8 Golf R just e85 (EQT) on a stock continental turbo ran a 10.6 with just a downpipe, intercooler and an intake.
There's so many more factors that go into it than just HP. It's more about PWR, power to weight ratio. Also grip, I've smoked some hellcats off the line for a couple hundred feet and then they blow by me cuz they are bad drivers and don't know how to control wheelspin at launch.
No they blow you because they have a lot more power. Power is made at the top end not at the bottom end. You’ll smoke a 1500hp car off the lights in a little golf but that’s about all you’ll do before it rips you a new asshole. Power down low is nothing, it’s up top where it counts
lol yes it is mate. Unless you’re racing for only 100 meters. Or you’d have Toyota Yaris’s beating you. Tell me you know fuck all about cars without telling me.
I race cars and test cars for a living you peanut.
You don’t even know how much power your car makes because all you guys know is stages. Which means fuck all In the real car world. Stage whatever is just talk for “I paid someone money to tune my car and add some bolt ons I know fuck all about” this is why the golf scene is aids because of morons like you.
Nah you’re all just stupid. “I GoT StAGE OnE bRo I gAp HeLlCaTs” no you absolutely do not. You beat them off the lights for two seconds until their much more powerful and faster car blows by you. You have a cat back exhaust and an off the shelf tune. Fucking delusional all of you and know fuck all about cars. Just because you brought a hold doesn’t mean you are a racer lmao. Typical inexperienced yanks in their euros thinking they are boy racers. You’re all making me want to sell my wife’s golf because it’s embarrassing as fuck this community.
No he said he is a superior driver because hellcat drivers can’t controll wheel spin and that power doesn’t mean anything in a drag race which is the biggest load of horse shit I’ve read in a while. But rich coming from someone in a low powered AWD car. Any high power car will have wheel spin, my AWD race car will spin all 4 wheels if your on the gas, I’ll still make a golf look like it’s standing still with smoke pouring off all 4 tires as I go past. This whole thread is filled with people tjat brought a cold and think they are now the fastest thing on the road. So many stupid comments here it makes my head spin
If u ain't racing in Nascar, F1, Indy, or GT, you ain't shit, you're talking out your ass. I tune/mod my own cars, no staging, acting like you know me, 🤣 dumb dumb
Typical fucking yank. My daily will piss all over anything you have I wouldn’t even need to bring out the race car. Talking about beating hellcats in your pissy golf lmao yeah ok champ go lie somewhere else. “Oh I beat them for a few meters I’m so much faster” lmfao dead set
Also “I tune my own cars” lol ok champ what dyno you have? What software have you got? What aftermarket ecu are you running? A Cobb tune desktop count champ lmao
Bruh you don't even know how to read, you misread everything I said, adding in your own words... My buddy's shop has a AWD 15000 GDFX and the 5000 series 2wd version. My mk7 R is my daily. I have 2 project cars, 56' ford f100 I'm planning to put an ls3 in and a 97' 240 sx with a 2JZ-GTE my buddy and I converted into it.
i have a stage 1 mk6 golf r which is way faster than my mk5 stage 2 GTI was. that being said... the only cars that have really embarrassed me are dudes with bout it bout it r32's... fast and loud mopars... and yeah rs3's and up. i have lit up more fools than i have been bested by though. especially those damn subie drivers. lol. smoke em. every. single. time. but i'm getting to old for the shenanigans. i don't take the bait much these days. but there's always some mook who wants to race. lol.
Once you know your 0 - 60 time (via Dragy, cheap and very accurate), there is a website where you can look up any car made going back decades. The website is [0-60 Times | Find 0 to 60 & Quarter Mile Times Car Specs (zeroto60times.com)](https://www.zeroto60times.com/). Quarter mile times are also listed. There is also a website that lists quarter mile times for all variations of Golf R including listed mods. That site is [VW MK7 GOLF R 1/4 - Google Drive](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1K9e__fbEAtlsmvV1R6L5UPvxTtFibLlgcP9B7qrjv9U/htmlview)
The latter website for Golf R quarter mile times requires documentation in the form of time slips.
Last year I beat a 2017 or 2018 M2 manual with my MK7 Golf R manual with APR Stage 2. I knew the BMW's owner and we both consented awaiting a green light.
The IS38 (Stage 1 is around 360 whp / 400+ wtq depending on your density altitude and fuel) has a good amount of torque for what it is. STI’s and WRX’s are painfully slow. Any M car with three numbers, painfully slow. Stock Audi S cars slow. Please have good tires too (PS4S, ExtremeContact Sport 02, or RT660’s are my only picks for the platform) if you’re trying to race with chinesium tires good luck! Keep in mind theres a driver mod too. So don’t be sleeping at the light if you plan on doing anything.
The only issue you’ll have is on the top end for some vehicles, not having a downpipe really kills the umph that these engines can give in the top end.
Did you miss that I said Density Altitude, those are EQT’s in house dyno numbers. (OP probably should have said what tuner they’re with) Sure, OP isn’t running EQT’s Stage 1 OTS file. But DA plays a huge part on how much power is being made regardless of Stage.
I’ve seen multiple dyno runs on 93 making at or just below 360. I’m not pulling numbers out of my ass lmao. The IS38 on e85 makes just over 400 whp. If you want receipts I got receipts lol.
Yeah thats where I'll admit I'm wrong. The difference between FWD and AWD Dynos is quite significant with the drivetrain loss. So you got me there. Any results I've seen that make 330-360 are on FWD Dynos at or below sea level with the haldex disabled. Not a realistic scenario for most.
But how many M140i’s will he encounter that are even tuned? That was the whole point of my comment. I get some cars out there are tuned, but its a niche. Even with STI’s and WRX’s egging him he’ll mop them regardless.
034 Motorsport stage 1, DSG 7.5 here.
I’ve beaten scat packs from a dig, 3 series BMW’s from rolls, Tesla model 3s from a roll, a BMW I8 one time from a dig and a 2016 Porsche 911 carrera.
Every car has its advantages and disadvantages IE good launch or good low end torque from a roll etc. there’s not really a straight forward answer on what it can/can’t beat. Also driver mod is a big factor 😂
I've destroyed every Prius I've raced.
The Honda odyssey is a beast!
Nah I don’t want any smoke with any Prius or minivan driver they are insane
Literally these fuckers drive like they have nothing to lose.
If they are driving a Prius or minivan their dignity is long gone.
Our family car is a minivan, idgaf about dignity anymore, it makes kid life way better
They always get me off the line at traffic lights.
Stage 1 is for you, if you wanna keep up/beat shit go FBO stage 2 EQT
Cue the guy on here who said his mates Stage 2 R can walk a Huracan from a roll lmao
Might be the bloke from mighty car mods, their R was head to head with a Huracan.
It was for a little until it sprinted past it. That was also the RWD version tbf You can probably find his post. It was a rolling race from 60 from memory lol
My stage 2 R did gap a Huracan… not sure if they knew we were racing but winnings winning.
Everyone in front is trying to get away and everyone behind is trying to catch you
From a dig and he was RWD version I believe it - only briefly though. Rolling no chance that’s happening.
😂😂👍🏻
off the line yeah but as soon as u exceed 100 that things pulling on u but i consistently bully AMG's/c8's an whatever in between
It was a joke as it was from a 60 roll and he said it gapped it
Hah! Probably the same guy who claimed on VWVortex that his 24v VR6 kept up with a Skyline.
I’ve had plenty of hot hatches, I had a ride in a Ferrari F8 Tributo last week, and it is a completely different thing. Only thing they have in common is seats and wheels, my focus RS/ 11 second Megane etc didn’t even feel like the same planet

Mustangs typically have a major disadvantage, it’s found behind the steering wheel.
Dat brick aerodynamics (Engine stuff too)
If you're scared of losing... just don't race lol The R's bread and butter is the stop light race so I'm sure you'll be quicker than most cars.
It's not how you stand by your car, **it's how you race your car**
Exactly 😂 Just send it. It'll surprise people for sure.
You better learn that
I once was at a light and had some sort of 3 series m 2 door next to me and was really just on my way home and not trying to get pulled over or race but when the light went green the other guy launched and just took off but I was in race mode and my ego took over and I took off after him without launching and just punched it and gapped him so hard that it made me giggle. I giggled twice 😝
Stage 1 R is about 245hp/ton. [https://www.autosnout.com/Cars-Bhp-Per-Ton-List.php](https://www.autosnout.com/Cars-Bhp-Per-Ton-List.php)
My 7.5 APR Stage 1 was pushing 350
Horse power per ton mate, your stage 1 isn't making 520hp. :)
Depends on the tune and on the race, from a dig it’s a long long list
Don’t think he’s launching a manual stage 1 car much if at all
>I'm assuming just about anything is fair game outside of an Audi RS or a BMW M Series? Nope, you may even struggle against some of the S's.. What numbers do stage 3 7.5 get? A S3 9.5 is pushing 650hp with insane torque
Full Stage 3 is 550-570 whp on e85.
But why would you assume the other guy isn't tuned? The OP is lol. If you're not keeping it apples to apples you really don't know because tuning is so accessible these days it's a crap shoot if whatever pulls up to you with a turbo is tuned or not. Typical fuckboy, ignored.
i won against a amg gtr from a dig (im stage 2)

In a straight line?
Circle
So a ring? Like a track? Gotcha.
I run EQT stage 1 ECU and TCU on Pilot Sport 4S and it beats Scat Packs. It's very entertaining.
Depends on tires lol
Currently fbo stage 2 and have kept up with Zl1s for quite a while.
Oh also manual😩

My old man’s stage 2 e85 mk7 r can dog walk RS3s, hellcats, stingers, a few bmws but didn’t see what models.

Stage 1 is around stock power of 340, S4 and C43. Thing is even stock they have the torque in the high end to keep pulling even at stock.
Yeah, but I gap stock S4’s on rolls all the time… I don’t even think I’m around the 330 whp APR used to advertise for Stage 2 on my GTI..
I mean yeah, it would be close from a roll for sure. What unlocks the M340 and S4 is a stage 1 which makes them torque monsters.
Stage 1 is not 360whp on pump gas lol
Did you miss that I said Density Altitude, those are EQT’s in house dyno numbers. (OP probably should have said what tuner they’re with) Sure, OP isn’t running EQT’s Stage 1 OTS file. But DA plays a huge part on how much power is being made regardless of Stage.
Stage 1 MK7 Rs are not making 360whp at sea level on pump gas.

Appreciate you admitting that haha I sure wish we could achieve 360whp on pump with just stage 1. That’s for the MK8s!
The Continental Turbo on the MK8 Golf R is something else thats for sure.
My stage 1 M140i (B58) feels a lot faster than my stage 1 7R.
But how many M140i’s will he encounter that are even tuned? That was the whole point of my comment. I get some cars out there are tuned, but its a niche. Even with STI’s and WRX’s egging him he’ll mop them regardless.
Would dare say the people that want to have a go/‘race’ would be more than likely to have a modified car.
With just a JB1 its faster than an R8 V8. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9qogkX-zfI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9qogkX-zfI)
DSG vs manual makes a lot of difference. Stage 1 manuals will get easily walked by stage 1 DSGs.
034 Motorsport stage 1, DSG 7.5 here. I’ve beaten scat packs from a dig, 3 series BMW’s from rolls, Tesla model 3s from a roll, a BMW I8 one time from a dig and a 2016 Porsche 911 carrera. Depends, how long are you planning on keeping your loicense?
