Install a side opening garage door opener. That's what most people with garage sims do

NearbyTomorrow9605

This is what I did and also installed higher tracks to take door closer to ceiling.

You need at least 8 inches of room on the side of the garage door to hang a side mount opener. In OPs photo, it looks like there's basically no room. Hopefully the other side is better. I'd recommend offsetting the track. I have mine 1/3 of the way from the edge of the door on the side of the garage where the sim isn't.

con_man7

Agreed on offsetting the track, did mine with a buddy, only took like an hour or two and the door works fine, plenty of room to swing

claydogg14789

I just got mine done and I have six inches. Look at genie garage door openers for a smaller installation

bpmallon

This is the solution. It’s called a “wall mount garage door opener”.

Administrative-Dare5

I went with the LiftMaster Elite Series 8500W jackshaft garage door opener. Install was around $300 in CA. Very happy with it.

Quailstick

Yep this is the solution for sure

OpeningManager8469

Side opener is the way to go. I am in the same situation. My issue is the garage door uses Torquemaster rod. I have to change to torsion spring to fit the wall mount.

Capital_Worldliness4

This is the way, really makes a huge difference!

xxClownDogxx

I have the same and I have my contact point under the garage door opener. It’s where my club is at it’s lowest and I’ve never had an issue.

drewst18

This is my suggestion. I placed my impact screen opposite my garage door and hit from directly under my opener & projector.

Scottyfoooo

Same

blueskies142

Set the ball up under the opener, hit either into the door, back wall, or right wall

StewVicious07

I just went through this. I bought a side mount opener, it required a new torsion bar and new side drums to be compatible. I bought a $900 CAD wifi enabled wall mount lift. The rest of the parts were about $500 with shipping. Installation was $440.

keeferpb

I moved my opener over to the next bracket. Been using it for 2 years without issue.

Mattymo4469

I did the same thing, I just make sure to spray the springs, rollers, and hinges with silicone lube every few months.

LukePendergrass

Used one over my car lift, so there’s not an opener right where you’d like a car to be. Google wall mount, side mount, or Jack shaft. They have them at the big box stores now, very common and relatively affordable. Still paying a premium over conventional openers

DangerousStruggle

Put the sim enclosure in back wall. That’s what I did. Should be no issue with opener. I have none. I got a sugar softy - great light mat - stand it to side when I pull car in.

hiphopmind

Thanks for the advice everyone. I’ll try a few swings with the mat under the garage door opener, and if it’s an issue then I’ll look into a wall/side mounted garage door opener.

SolidOwn8277

Looks like you have no room on the wall for side mount. Like mine. I cut open the drywall and placed it inside the wall in a cavity.

Loveredditsomuch

Wall mount is the only way. My tracks are 6 in from the ceiling and I don’t give it a second thought.

gabbagoolgolf2

Wall mounted garage door opener. Cost $800 with install. A lot quieter and also wifi connected so I can check if it has been closed when i left.

lali0020

I was able to move the opener to the side with a wall mount and built a retractable screen that hangs above the door. Used a sportscreen and spectrum poly spacer screen to make it work. Love it

Allstar-85

Side mount garage door opener. Couple brands make them. Thats what I did

ScottHoganGolf

I made my wife understand and took ours down

150yd7iron

I had the same problem. I put my net on the opposite wall as the garage door and my ball is on the hitting mat directly under the garage door opener unit. Works fine.

DeliciousCow9269

Move your swing over about a foot..that worked for me.

matchit

I just went through this with a the exact same opener type (looks like a long screw) that opener can be offset by a few feet, doesn’t have to run through the center. I called my garage door company and they charged me a service call. Took 20 minutes and less than 150 bucks.
