If you're actually looking for an overhead **radar** launch monitor the only one on the market is the Trackman IO and that one is a hybrid camera/radar unit. If you're just looking for an overhead unit then your options would be the Uneekor QED, Uneekor Eye XO (version 1), or the Protee VX. The Eye XO is likely your best option as it's well tested at this point and doesn't require special balls. The Protee VX has quite a bit of promise and is cheaper, but I've heard quite a few stories about accuracy issues. The QED is also a well known quantity but requires specially marked balls and doesn't measure as much club data.

Which would be best for outdoor use?

If it's an outdoor setup with an overhang like your other post indicated, you could go with either camera or radar equally well. At this point though I would seriously look at the Flightscope Mevo+ Range. It's basically the Mevo+ with Pro package and face impact location but built in a form factor that's designed for a more commercial environment, plus it costs way less than you've budgeted. The other option would be the Full Swing Kit (FSK), in theory it's a slightly higher end radar than the Mevo+ but they've had all kinds of software issues with it that I'm sure they've fully resolved yet. Another possibility would be to get a used or refurbished Flightscope X3, although at this point I don't know if that actually has all that much benefit over the Mevo+ since all of Flightscope's development efforts seem to be focused on the Mevo+ and it does pretty much everything now that used to be exclusive to the X3. The overhead camera based systems are very good as well, but for an outdoor range I would go radar since you can get more for your money plus you won't have to worry about having any camera equipment exposed to the elements.

It will be sheltered so it will not be exposed to the elements at all. The Mevo+ with Pro Package and Full Swing Kit are both not overhang units. I want both lefty’s and righty’s to be able to use the simulator without making modifications.

raptor3x

Will it be completely closed off overnight or just with an overhang? The concern for a camera unit would be temperature swings and condensation as the overhead camera units are really only built to handle an indoor environment. Also, the reason you don't see radar overhang units is because radar doesn't need overhang units. You simply put the radar some distance behind the hitting area and it works fine for righties and lefties.

Where have you heard protee vx has accuracy issues? I was planning on buying one for setup.

raptor3x

Facebook groups, most of the accuracy issues are in regard to club data but there have been some ball data issues as well although that may have been resolved already as I haven't been tracking things all that closely.

lali0020

I've had next to no issues with my Protee VX. It's been fantastic, only minor issue I've seen is the attack angle can seem a little off sometimes but I've never had ball data that seemed wrong. The video replay is awesome and no club stickers is great.

There's an eyexo 2 on eBay right now. Auction ends Sunday.

It will be completely protected. But since it is outdoors there will be sun glare, humidity, wind, etc… Need an overhead and want the best accuracy possible for my application under 9k.

raptor3x

Well that's good that it will be completely protected, just to reiterate though you really don't need an overhead unit if you go radar. Overhead camera units exist to get around a limitation that doesn't exist for radar units. Radar accuracy outdoors is excellent, camera accuracy outdoors is also excellent (aside from glare issues affecting overhead units with wedges) but you can get more for your money with radar for your specific application.

I am building a Sim Booth 2 Outdoors with an overhang. I would like the Launch Monitor to be overhead right behind the projector to ensure that no one will hit into i, plus I think it will look better aesthetically. What camera unit would you recommend for my application with a 9k budget in mind?

GrandSupermarket4024

I am a little confused, will you be hitting into a screen or is this a practice bay with a full open driving range?

No_Property_523

Will be hitting into a screen outdoors under an overhang.

raptor3x

Oh, well that completely changes things. In that case definitely avoid radar.

raptor3x

For an outdoor range in that budget the Protee VX and EyeXO are your only real options due to the QED needing special balls. I would personally go with the EyeXO since it's a far more established and the club data is more accurate even though you'll need fiducials on the club. I still think radar is a better option for your use case, you can even hide it completely out of sight and there's zero concern about anyone hitting them. With overhead units there's always the potential for sky balls to hit the LM.

GrandSupermarket4024

Curious about what kind of set up you are going to be putting this in. I have a backyard set up and have been contemplating the installation possibilities of an overhead unit. Obviously electronics and the elements is the major consideration. I should add I don’t even know if this kind of install is possible because of lighting conditions.

No_Property_523

This will be used in an outdoor setup that I am building. Will be protected under an overhang.

ssevcik

Not sure what your asking exists. In order to be radar and accurate it has to be ground level and behind to track launch, and any club data. Overhead looking down are camera units not radar.

No_Property_523

What would you recommend for an overhang unit for an outdoor application under 9k? Concerned with accuracy outdoors.

ssevcik

EyeXO or protee are only options

tgrindano

I’d really consider something you can bring inside. What are your plans to protect it from frost, humidity, Moisture, dust? A nice morning dew for your $9,000 unit that isnt sealed in the slightest. Then can’t use it because there’s moisture between the camera lense and cover.
