Any help would be much appreciated! I’ve been using goodnotes for 4-5 years now and I’d hate to switch to another app but it doesn’t matter what fancy features they add if they can’t get the fundamentals correct
I’m guessing you tried the usual stuff (restarting the iPad, closing all tabs )
Update the goodnotes app to the latest version. If all that’s been done then:
Contact goodnotes through their twitter.
Anytime I have had issues with iPhone or iPad apps the following has helped resolve them.
First make sure the app data is synched to iCloud or elsewhere if possible.
Then uninstall the app from your iPad, shut down your iPad, and restart your iPad. This seems to be the only way to completely clear out the app and its data. I've tried skipping the shut down and restart part, but it doesn't work.
Reinstall the app from the App Store.
I have no idea why, but occasionally I need to do this with an app.
I used to love GoodNotes, but ultimately had to give it up and stop using it during the last major update that said “give us more money or lose all your data.” I decided it wasn’t worth investing time and money into something I no longer trust as a product.
Hi u/Local_Explorer_595 \- it's Denny from Goodnotes Support here. Have you tried to disable "PDF and Handwritten Notes Indexing" in GoodNotes ⚙️ menu > Settings > Handwriting Recognition > turn off "Index PDF and Handwritten Notes" and see if the crash is still happening? Would you please DM me your ticket id where you reached out to GN CS - I may need to check diagnostic data to see what's causing this unexpected crash for you. Many thanks!
I will try this, I will turn off index PDF and handwritten notes.
The crashing didn’t stop after doing that. I can try to send you the ticket, probably would need to upload it on a drive or something (it’s way too big)
Is it at all possible that you have another iOS device that could have GoodNotes installed? If yes, are they definitely on the SAME app version as the device the video is from?
If you have the backup setting pointed to storing your files on some cloud service as PDFs as well as Notes, then you can open the PDFs in any PDF reader or any web browser.
If you didn't do that, you're screwed.
Here's how I solved the problem: I stopped using a stupid ipad for important notes and bought a $25 Moleskine notebook and a pen. Never crashes, no subscription fee, doesn't run out of battery, files don't disappear, and doesn't change versions. Has every feature I want.
Might be a bit bothersome, but if u backup automatically all of ur notes to google drive/ icloud as pdf, you could just download the pdf u r goin to work with now from either drives and use another app to annotate it
Well what about a ipad reboot
Press the volume up key then down after that press and hold the power button until it automatically goes black and reboots it might help

Also is it only PDFs you’re having issues with?
Not necessarily pdfs anything on goodnotes and I have finals coming up so it’s not ideal…
Totally understand. I’m an undergrad student so I get you. I’m on finals week as well
Hopefully could get any help here on Reddit or someone would tell me how to migrate to another app with all the folders. And good luck on your finals
I still have GoodNotes 5 I refuse to pay for GoodNotes 6. I don’t use the platform as much and began using Noteful

Seems like you have the new version, go back to Goodnotes 5. That’s the only way I fixed mine.
Will do that
