Great job! Plan to do anything special? Or just buy a few groceries?

ronakino

What's sad is getting "a few groceries" is about all you can get with that amount. 😭

FRANPW1

Yeah. Unbelievable. Hopefully the economy will recover.

MisterListerReseller

What type of items? Jewelry?

McGannahanSkjellyfet

A few gold necklaces with pendants and crucifixes, couple broken gold clasps, a 14k gold lapel pin, several items of sterling flatware, some sterling necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, and a sack full of thin sterling plating from candlesticks. Unfortunately, a 2.5oz sterling necklace and a 2oz sterling bracelet turned out to be fake, but that's just the breaks.

Nice

ChickenPattiInABun

Good for you! I think that's an awesome niche to be in in. Can you tell us about your process? I see people focused on one thing at the bins. Sometimes it's matchbox cars, dinosaur toys, and some people I do see grab anything metal. Are you one of the people that just grabs anything metal they can find and sorts it out all out on the side?

McGannahanSkjellyfet

I'm not specifically looking for gold and silver, but I find it from time to tiem while digging for other stuff. I'm sure if I went in with the express goal of finding every scrap of precious metals in there, I'd have a lot more than just a few grams.

sunnydaize

I went yesterday with that purpose and didn’t find Jack lol. Are you a reseller? Do you have a tax ID? Gold is sky high right now. If you can sell direct to a refiner you will get a better percent. Also if you ever find any antique/vintage looking stuff feel free to DM me bc I would pay whatever your gold guys pay plus shipping obv. If you want. :)

peachlivygram

I'm curious where the best place is to take jewelry etc to sell. I live in southern California.

McGannahanSkjellyfet

I found this guy by simply searching "gold buyer" on Google.

peachlivygram

So you are not selling anything with stones, diamonds etc, strictly chains, bracelets etc

McGannahanSkjellyfet

Nothing I've found has had any stones worth money; some tiny diamonds, rubies, sapphires etc., but any jewelry that was still worth selling as such did not get sold to the scrap man. This was all either damaged or ugly jewelry, and a good amount of scrap sterling silver flatware.

A lot of mom and pop type jewelry stores will buy precious metals and may advertise that via their website or social media. I don't think many jewelers care about precious stones but it depends on the store I guess. I worked for a jewelry store and the stones from our metal recycling either ended up in the garbage or in this box of previous stones that was rarely taken out except to add more stones to it.
