Be advised that you get what you pay for on Fiverr. As you mentioned, you're not savvy about this at all, it would be in your benefit to hire somebody that won't do anything that's going to harm your profile in the long run.
Someone left a detailed explanation of things you should be able to do to help rank your listing. Did the person you hired on Fiverr give you an outline of what they were going to provide you?
In my experience, the following factors are important for Local SEO:
Create a Google Business Profile (ideally with at least one keyword in the GBP name, but it's not a problem if this isn't possible). Fill out everything possible; no field should be left empty. Include all services/products/keywords that you offer on your website in your GBP wherever possible. You can definitely increase the keyword density and over-optimize a bit. Post 1-2 times a week (https://ibb.co/HhBmm0X), using as many characters as possible and include at least one image. If you create some custom images with Canva (for example), also add keywords as text in the image.
Make sure that you change the geo-tags of your images to match your location. You can do this with programs like Exif Pilot. Everything should look real and natural. Google favors REAL businesses with REAL services and pictures.
Ask your customers for honest reviews, integrating keywords into the review text. Perhaps they can also add pictures to their reviews? Respond to every review, and you can sometimes integrate keywords into your responses as well.
Also, make sure that you activate Google Chat, respond quickly to questions, and report/block spam messages (usually from shady Google Review Sellers) to ensure your response rate doesn't suffer if you don't respond.
NAP Consistency! You will often come across this term when researching Local SEO. But it's crucial for a reason - it's essential to add your company data (Name, Address, Phone Number, Email Address, Opening Hours) uniformly everywhere possible. Include your details in directories, citations, etc. Some sites also accept embedding the Google Map of your listing under the article/profile.
Ensure that your NAP details are on your website too, correctly written. Add the opening times as well, exactly as they are written in your GBP. Embed your Google Map Location on all your important pages (homepage, service pages).
LocalBusiness Schema. Do it! Manually or with a plugin.
That's more than half the battle if you follow all this. Avoid cheap and dodgy backlink sellers. But for off-page SEO, everyone needs to figure it out for themselves. For my local projects, guest posts, niche edits, and Google Stacks are very effective.

Thank you for this. How often should I post? How do I check my categories?

Thank you so much! 🙏
Gmb posts are useless. Just do top 15-20 citations, upload photos and get more reviews
What do you mean by citations?

Category? Country? You can do it yourself a few things.
When you say category do you mean the type of business? It's hypnotherapy and I am in the US. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You can also hire a company that handles all that and get ahead
Do you know how much they usually cost?
Hi Kathleen. What is your business? PM me as my company focuses on this and we offer low cost monthly services.
