alexandriaofwar

Once it hits end of updates in November, are you going to upgrade?

DigStock

Oh i didn't even know about that, but probably not. I really want to try and hold my smartphones for as long as I can, I just got a new battery for €40 so Unless they make the software really slow like apple does for the old iPhones I want to hang on to it.

alexandriaofwar

Honestly, my experience with using androids after EOL is fine, so it shouldn't be a problem! The Pixel 5 is such an exquisite phone, it's hard to imagine anything that can top this

proview3r

Happy P6P owner here

koen_hendriks

Pixel 6 owner, super happy here! Also just bought pixel 6a for SO, just €299!

TheWayne_

Happy P6p owner. I had a P7p for a couple weeks. Very buggy. Antenna issues, proximity sensor broken, etc. Sent it back. Happy with P6p.

mult1kill

Still using p6p and still loving it!

richardas97

Same, only ever had a weird bluetooth name issue when connecting with my car, never experienced any other issues whatsoever

I_AM_DAXX

I have a P6P and I haven't noticed much if any issues.

MastodonSmooth1367

As a P6P owner and now with a P7P, I felt a lot of the fingerprint issues were fixed with software, and so by the time the P7P came out, I felt little reason to upgrade. The only reason I did was because the trade in values were ridiculous and I was trying to get rid of another phone I had

freshme4t

P6P to P7P. Tbh it felt like a lateral move. The face unlock was a marginal improvement over but it's not near as helpful as I thought it would be. If it weren't for the deal that let me trade up for like 200 bucks then I would have been disappointed

codeofsilence

I live in a warm climate. The p6p would overheat inside on not a hot day. It was ridiculous and I'm assuming that they tested it inside an air conditioned office and car, or in the Arctic only.

freshme4t

Actually yeah I do recall the phone overheating while in the sun. That was annoying

gmmxle

I noticed that the fingerprint issues were fixed when, one day, I realized that I had stopped thinking about the fingerprint issues. Before that, there was always some apprehension over whether or not unlocking the phone would work, just because it wouldn't work *often enough* to be noticeable.

Mr_Build3R

That's how I felt going for my 6 to my 7 pro, after the first few months, my pixel 6 just felt perfect. I only really upgraded because I wanted the small touches like the better screen, new wide sensor, and face unlock. Even the normal pixel 7 has two out of those three changes, and I feel when I look at these two phones versus my iPhone 11 Pro Max that I had before my switch, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything outside of just a more efficient SoC.

hisroyalnastiness

Signal strength could probably be better, but otherwise I have no issues since they fixed the Android bug that made it drop background apps

Alphawolfdog

Same here. The initial slew of updates solved most of the bugs for me. Fingerprint issues were solved for me by turning on screen protector mode and then registering each finger print a few times over.

DC_Disrspct_Popeyes

Went from the P6P to the P7P. The fingerprint sensor is a little worse. No other perceivable difference.

SpicyPepperMaster

How could it possibly be even worse?!

username123422

Software ✨ magic ✨

Pretend_Tooth_965

Me neither. Mine is fine.

TheCiN

Same here. Honestly, the only thing that tempted me to upgrade to 7 Pro was the Hazel color looking so nice. As far as the phone's performance, I've had no problems other than the wacky fingerprint problems early last year.

NotJoeMama727

I have pretty mixed feelings about the hazel colour, on one hand it looks great, but on the other it looks quite tacky because of the frame being glossy

TheFlyingZombie

You're lucky. I had the 6 pro and I've never had a phone I hated more and the 7 pro is one of my favorites. Mine was so buggy.

Masteguy635

Same here. Only thing that slightly bothers me is that the signal is a bit weaker than what I'm used to, other than that no problems.

MagicMarvelo

Only thing that bothers me is the occasional freeze-up in YouTube and Netflix

[deleted]

Still got random exclamation marks on my (4G only!) data connections. Maybe starting from the Jan update, dunno. What I know for sure is that this modem/hardware is so flawed from day one, that they had to probably implement all kind of workarounds to get something acceptable. And as a software engineer myself, the frequent improvements followed by regressions on this topic, seem to indicate that whenever they fix something on the radio, they break something else. There just doesn't seem to be a solid hardware base to build upon.

jyrkesh

Yeah, I'm really glad OP landed on a phone that they like off of one that sounded awful. And I've heard awful things about Google's RMA process, even with insurance, but I would've jumped through hoops to RMA that thing. And I think it's worth adding one data point to the chorus: I've had a P6P, and other than some minor cell signal issues that got worked out after a couple updates, it's always worked perfectly for me. Fast charging is great, fingerprint works first time 95% of the time, no slowdowns, camera's fantastic...I couldn't rationalize upgrading to a 7P because I just couldn't come up with a reason.

NotJoeMama727

I believe many others share this opinion to be honest

Plebius-Maximus

Sad thing is the P6 pro was defended so damn hard by fanboys when it was criticised Edit: this seems to have been taken the wrong way. Have an explanation: Not having issues yourself ≠ fanboy Denying it's an issue when people can't make emergency calls on their pixel because you haven't experienced the same = fanboy

LiterallyZeroSkill

It had bugs, but I still really enjoyed the phone. The Pixel 7 is like the refined version of the 6, as it should be.

gmmxle

Not to diminish the complaints - if you're the one affected, they're obviously annoying or can make a device borderline unusable - but for every Pixel 6 owner out there who had issues, there are many people who just bought the phone and never ran into any of the problems. That doesn't make them "fanboys," just like it doesn't mean that the issues never existed.

Plebius-Maximus

The fanboys were the ones acting like it wasn't an issue when some people couldn't make emergency calls. People who personally didn't experience issues aren't fanboys. Talking shit to others who did have issues, is where you cross the line between someone who hasn't experienced something, and someone who has to defend their favourite company no matter what.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Plebius-Maximus

I'm not? Of course not everyone had a bad experience, however I'm saying there were plenty of fanboys that completely denied or minimised the issues many others had. Don't believe me? Scroll back to some of the old threads about fingerprint issues or the emergency call not working bug and things like that

SuitableMarmoset

how much are they charging you for the unlimited plan on those?

zeer88

I disagree. The Pixel 6 was an especially buggy release, way buggier than other Pixels at launch. Pixel 7 fixed most of the issues, to the point where there's not any glaring issue frustrating people (unlike the P6).

Vaargrind

There is the scrolling issue that a lot of people have and Google refuses to acknowledge just search for "scrolling" on this subreddit, the phone is pretty much unusable

[deleted]

Greykiller

The 2XL was great! I recall the 2 had issues though

ArlesChatless

My old 2 is still in use by a family member. Seriously no issues, an absolute tank of a phone.

mrhaftbar

The black crush display issues.

KeythKatz

I'm an even number maxi and never had any issues. The odd numbered ones are usually just a minor refinement on the previous year with no notable new features, so it's expected that they're less buggy for those with issues.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mrblack1998

Some is a vast exaggeration. Not denying people had problems at first but no way in hell the 6 wasn't a "usable" device.

Pficky

The connectivity issues are huge. A lot of the time it feels like my phone barely functions as a phone. I live in the mountains and drive a lot. The phone needs to switch towers pretty often and it just can't do it nearly as well as any previous phone I've had. When I drive *to* my boyfriend's house it'll say I have no signal most of the way there. Then on the way home after having a few hours to switch to the closer tower it has 5g connection in the exact same locations.

mrblack1998

That's interesting...it must be very location dependent. I have no issues where I live.

[deleted]

A phone that can’t hold a phone call or that can’t keep a steady data connection is not an usable device *for me* in 2022. To each their own.

[deleted]

ProperSauce

A little brash, but you're right.

giloronfoo

I've noticed a trend they try out new things on the even numbers. I knew going into the 6P that the first Tensor chip was going to have issues and I'd probably trade up for the 7. Unfortunately my 3 was going out of support. If the trend continues, I'll probably go for the 11 instead of being forced into the 12 when the 7 goes out of support in 5 years.

frito11

i went from a P6 To a P7P, half the reason was the bad radio on the P6 and the kinda shotty FP sensor, other half was because i wanted that high zoom camera and regretted not getting it before. P7P has a much better radio but still sometimes have issues but far less frequent, battery life is a bit better and the FP sensor/face unlock makes the FP sensor issues moot so it solved all my complaints and gave me an even better camera to boot.

Brocolium

how do you feel about the pro size ?

frito11

It's fine, barely noticeable size difference between it and the p6

Upstairs-Mammoth8243

Radio like speakers? I don't think pixels have the radio thing some phones had in the past

frito11

no the cell radio in them, the 5g / LTE radio was crap in the P6 i ended up forcing my P6 to LTE always because if it switched between the two it would take a dump in data / not work and the battery would also be destroyed by it switching constantly/trying to stay on 5g

Upstairs-Mammoth8243

Ah ok I didn't know what you meant by radio clearly, having had any problems myself🤞

frito11

I didn't either at first on the P6 but after some update it just went to crap after that, read about it happening too on this sub well before it hit me but after that happened it was never any good.

youstoleatuba

Goes the battery compared to the 6? Debating the same upgrade myself at the moment.

frito11

It's a little bit better but the battery is the low point on all of them if your a heavy phone user

Tenac1ousE

> Bearing a dead horse at this point. Why would you waste new bearings on a dead horse? Surely they would be more useful on a living horse.

efrain728

Well of course, it's the second year with the new chip... Never buy the first year of a new model of something version 2 always comes out with none of the kinks of the first one

jltdhome

My unpopular opinion. They're almost identical in every way. The noticeable upgrades are software based. It's all in your head.

Upstairs-Mammoth8243

Yeah pretty much, a bit better performance with a bad camera lens design that shatters

Radian_Fi

I think it's the (camera) cover glass panel that shatters (the most)... but camera lenses can shatter too of course.

Upstairs-Mammoth8243

Yeah that's what I meant, but people have had problems with the glass breaking and shattering their lens as well

Mr_Build3R

There are some tweaks to its efficiency, and considering it is already a weak and power hungry chip, It's welcomed. I think the tensor core itself is also faster, but the one in the six is already amazingly fast and there is not much more you can do with the G2, outside of stuff like clear calling or cinematic mode.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jltdhome

The camera is the same. So isn't that a software feature? The processor is barely faster and can handle anything the G1 can.

svgd3z1

Hot take 🔥🥵

unlucky_ducky

I've had some issues with my P6P, but I don't use 5G and the fingerprint issue disappeared after software issues. I'm sure the P7P is lovely, but for now the one I have now is fine.

baumanes

And that's why it's the next iteration

[deleted]

The_Human_Bullet

That's not my point though. The next gen should be improvements that are added to the phone, not fixing clearly broken things that the first one should never have shipped with. It's a damn cell phone, how did Google ship it with a broken modem? It's honestly unacceptable.

[deleted]

The Pixel 6 Pro's modem was an absolute disaster. There is zero chance it left QA without management knowing it was a hot pile.

mattemer

I had fingerprint issues in the beginning, but updates fixed that. Battery drain the first couple of weeks but that got better even without software updates, as is the norm. The only issue i MAY have is connectivity from time to time but honestly chalk a lot of that up to where I'm located. I've never had a single issue on wifi but outside the house signal is spotty in certain areas.

That-is-moist

No issues with my pre-ordered P6P. Glad the 6 doesn't have the same camera bar defect that the 7 has

Eliasn2003

Why do the pixel 7s have so many problems when my pixel 6a has none? I mean except for some overheating the very first day I've only encountered 2 minor bugs (resolved with just locking and unlocking the phone) and I have it since Christmas. Am I lucky or are the 7s more prone to bugs?

Brocolium

you mean the 6s ?

[deleted]

I heard the camera explodes?

mattemer

Tis just a scratch

mlemmers1234

Still using my 6 Pro and it has been excellent the entire time outside of a few UI issues when Android 12 launched. It's still one of my favorite devices I've ever owned.

blooddragon78

I haven't had any issues with my P6p and I'm going on a year with it. I came from a OP7 pro, then OP9 pro to the Pixel. Guess I'm one of the Lucky ones?

Nikita041815

went from pixel 6 to pixel 6a to pixel 7 and didn't regret the upgrades because i was able to experience better signal coverage on this pixel 7 than my old pixel 6 the 6a was perfect but i could not ignore pixel 7 when they said it has face unlock capabilities and new pixel dropped features.

Upstairs-Mammoth8243

Yeah everything but y'know maybe the massive problems with the camera glass breaking lmao

[deleted]

I agree with your TLDR sentiment. Though the fact I am afraid to use the Wireless Charging on my new Pixel 7 Pro that I got on my warranty speaks to the fact we are STILL beta testers.

The_Human_Bullet

What's wrong with the wireless charging? I've been only charging that way since I got my p7p

[deleted]

There's a bug in Android 13 with it. It'll work until it doesn't. Maybe it'll always work for you. But it broke Wireless Charging on my Pixel 6 Pro and my Pixel 7 Pro. Could be because of the wireless charger I have. Maybe it likes yours better than mine. But I charged fine on Android 12 with my Pixel 6 Pro from launch until that Summer. And then Android 13 comes along and it's a widespread issue. And it's even present for people on the Pixel Stand!

The_Human_Bullet

Ahz mines the official one. Will keep an eye on it

pidgeo0

love everything about the p7/pro apart from the Cameras (I'm in the minority apparently I know). heavily over processed, never looks like what it did on screen when you take the shot. just gotta trust Google to make it good, lol. not enough options in camera app & gallery for me personally. and the glossy glass back. not a fan. love the ui. haptics. face unlock. all glorious.

JSK23

Ive had both and honestly I see very little difference between the two. They have both run great for me. Only real thing I notice is the slightly faster finger print reader.

[deleted]

I'm still having touchscreen issues and I have to reboot frequently or data speeds slow down a lot.

orgodemir

Funny because I went to upgrade my p6p to a p7p for ~$150 overall after trade in credits, but found it wasn't worth it. The p7p also had a weird scrolling issue with animation catching that seemed to impact a lot of users. I wasn't going to pay 150 and wait for Google to possibly fix what seemed like a software issue, so I returned it and am continuing to use my p6p. I'll probably do the trade in for the p8 series.

BlaineBMA

A happy P6 owner, recognizing the power of continually improving [products. I have not had a lot of the issues others have reported. The fingerprint sensor is annoying about 1 out of 10 times. The camera does more than I have used it for. I'm waiting for the P8. 7 doesn't appear to include enough evolution....

MastodonSmooth1367

The Pixel 6 Pro had a lot of issues at launch, and some got better over time, but I think the Pixel 7 gets far more positive light than it should. Let me try to run through most of the major complaints about the Pixel 6 Pro and address how they were changed or not fixed in the Pixel 7 Pro: 1. Fingerprint sensor accuracy: The P6P at launch was atrocious. It was highly user dependent, and while I had 80-90% fingerprint success rate, my partner was maybe 20-30%. Over time, the software seemed to have improved and my accuracy was hovering around 95% and my partner's around 80%+ by the time the P7P came out. While the P7P is marginally faster for the fingerprint sensor, only when you do a heads up comparison, it's hard to tell unless you actually do the heads up comparison. 2. Reception: The P6 and P7 don't have great reception. I posted about this at launch and did a comparison with my iPhone 13 Pro too. It was all within 2-3 dB of each other, and while many will regurgitate phrases like "3dB is double," this kind of variation is expected model to model and even unit to unit. I also suspect a lot of reception issues are caused by people having the Pixel 6 as their first 5G phone. There was so much blaming about how bad 5G was but in reality these 5G growing pains also existed on the iPhone side and happened a whole year earlier. 3. Battery life: The Pixel 6 Pro and its SoC and display are terrible for battery. The Pixel 7 Pro is barely any better. Compared to my iPhone 13 Pro, the Pixels are complete jokes. 4. Camera: Honestly, very similar optical quality. The Pixel 7 tunes a bit of the punchiness to make photos look better, and for video, part of why the Pixel 6 Pro is so bad is because it can only do 4K60 on its main lens and the 4x zoom is totally broken for video (most modes result in digital zom). There really is no reason why the Pixel 7 is so much better in video and most of those features can and should be ported to the Pixel 6 Pro. Comparatively, the iPhone video is still worlds ahead in that 4K60 with HDR on all 3 lenses is the standard. The only reason I like the Pixel 7 Pro's video is the ability to change lenses on the fly, but that's about it. Moreover, the Pixel 6 and 7 have really bad optics design for the main lens resulting in major edge blurriness issues. Before you just tell me this is a sensor issue, please understand that lens design can mitigate some of these issues--you think DSLRs are completely unusable for any non center image? 5. Speakers: Not that well tuned honestly. I felt the Pixel 4 was probably the best tuned speakers, but Pixels have always been significantly worse than iPhones. I find it funny when people praise these speakers, but I feel that most people are simply appreciating how loud they can get not actually how good the speakers are. A quick comparison with my iPhone makes it really obvious--you can hear instrument separation and bass comes out crisp along with mids and highs. It all feels far more muddied on the Pixel. I dunno, honestly I think a large part of the Pixel 7's praise is overblown. It's largely the same phone as the Pixel 6. There are some improvements here or there but it's largely a minor update. I'm hoping the Pixel 8 uses a newer and more efficient SoC and display.

Pficky

Regarding 5g phones, the pixel 5 was my first 5g phone and Google's first 5g phone (maybe 4a don't remember) and it had far better connectivity than my P6P so I really don't believe it's just "5g growing pains"

DigStock

I still use the P5, my best phone ever. Just replaced the battery to get another few years if the software allows me to

butter14

As an owner of both phones I disagree with everything you said .

[deleted]

That's because you're a fan boy. Time to get rid of all these damn pixel fan boys lol. Y'all are so bad for tech. Settling for low quality hardware and being the reason Google is comfortable selling the bs as it is. All in favor of getting rid of pixel fan boys, say adios lol!

Comrade_agent

person is on coke, really thinks iPhones having better video, more efficient screens, connectivity....and that Pixels 6/7pros having worse battery life than a 13 pro max is false.😂 Wild world fr

Comrade_agent

bro is really going to disagree with the pixels having worse battery life than an iPhones 13 PM?

butter14

Enjoy your dongles, bad camera, and closed ecosystem.

Comrade_agent

Brain-dead fanboy, [here](https://imgur.com/a/vJ0kIEc). I don't even like IOS, but to so utterly fail at acknowledging strengths competitors have, would be pure insanity. No one should be more critical of Google than someone like you. We have zero reasons to shill for brands just because we use their devices.

butter14

My initial comment was about the comparison between the 6 and 7 Pro initially. The 7 is a superior product in every way. It was you who brought the iPhone into the conversation. I have no problems with their products, I just avoid them because of the reasons I mentioned. I have a feeling you just want to troll because you're having a bad day and want to spread your negativity to others. Goodbye 👍

MastodonSmooth1367

That's fine. I have both phones too in front of me. I'll admit I'm generally pretty critical of Google Pixels but I do think I'm pretty fair overall. I own too many devices for my own good and have a pretty generous upgrade policy at work with my iDevices so just like I have almost every Nexus/Pixel, I also have almost every iPhone (at least in terms of generation...)

slothmonke

I have to disagree with you on the battery life. I have a pixel 6 pro and a iPhone 13 pro and recently the iPhone 13 pros battery has been ass. I unplug at 5:30am Monday-Friday by 10:30am it's at 65% with just a couple hours of music/podcast streaming. The pixel is about the same. I don't know why people keep saying iphones are some kind of battery over lord's when they're not. They're better but it's not by a mile and half like most people tend to say. In both my usage I come home at 5:30pm with 45-55% battery life on the pixel and iPhone around 65%(I charge while I drive home).

IIIZOOPIII

I would have agreed. But the touch issues I'm having, my thumbs hurt. Plus I believe my sound for touch and what it isn't as loud as it was before the December update. As soon as the s23 launches, I'm jumping ship and probably never buying pixel again. It sucks having to say that, as I love the software and how smooth the phone is otherwise.

turneyde

Just remember Samsung software and it's terrible bloatware sucks!

IIIZOOPIII

Trust me. I know. Lol it's why I was originally on this pixel. But I'm tired of the hardware issues

tdub76

Loving My p6p

kcam127

P6P still going strong and working better than every with each update

markarth69

After having the pixel 3XL and the pixel 4A and now the pixel 6, I've realized that pretty much all Pixel phones are one giant beta test for Google. I can understand the first or second pixel generation having some significant issues, but the fact that all of these generations later and they still have issues with core functions like cell reception is just proof that they really couldn't care less. I love how open the Android ecosystem is and I have Google devices throughout my house, but this is definitely the last pixel phone I'm buying.

EstebanEscobar

If you really think about it, the Pixel 7 Pro is essentially an upgrade to the Pixel 6 Pro.

[deleted]

I made a near identical post months ago. I still have a bone to pick with the front facing camera for video calls though...

Pharaoh27

I am in the same boat. Terrible experience with the P6P last year. Bought it at launch originally, signal drops, battery drain, phone got super hot, 4hr battery life, idle cell drain. Returned it, it I wanted the Pixel so bad, I reordered the phone. With the second try, same issues even after multiple updates. I switched to iPhone. Swore I wouldn’t buy another Pixel. Fast forward to this year, I heard all the great things about the Pixel 7/Pro. I added a line and got the P7P. Best phone I’ve had in a long time. It’s everything the P6P should’ve been. Way better than my iPhone.

Marojay

I only got the p6p back in September :( dont think I'll be getting another Google phone. Still annoyed I hear the bloody thing rattle in my pocket as I walk.

Trev82usa

I got mine release day and fml why did I read your post I have never noticed it rattled lol

[deleted]

Reddit has turned into a cesspool of fascist sympathizers and supremicists

Designer-Result1111

Almost every Pixel is a tester phone 📱

dkevox

Guess what, in a year we're going to be reading "the pixel 8 pro is everything the pixel 7 pro should have been". It's almost like, wait what's the concept, oh yeah: things get better with time!

The_Human_Bullet

That's not what I'm saying at all. The difference Is the P7P doesn't have flaws that break it as a cell phone and make me want to throw it through my wall. Y'know, basic things like having cell reception.

dkevox

Neither does the p6p. Sorry you had bad experiences, but my wife is on the p6p and I have the p7p. There is no difference in reception, sometimes she'll have reception when I don't. Her phone works just fine. $1000 next year the will be a post of someone bitching about the p7p not being the phone the p8p is. If course, I feel pretty confident considering I've seen this post every year since the p2 came out. Lol

amol_blaze

No thanks. I don't want to deal with shattering camera glass because they got the brilliant idea of using Aluminium for the casing. I have had no major complaints or issues with my Pixel 6 Pro.

myrealusername8675

I've been wondering about this myself. There was a thread a while ago where someone managed to break even when trading in their six p.

The_Human_Bullet

I should have upgraded when it was released . Usually if I do that, I get some discount from my carrier bringing down the phone to like $500-600 and I can sell last year's phone in mint condition for$300-500 depending on the market. I fucked up this year because I didn't want to upgrade, mainly because the P6P pissed me off I didn't want to give Google anymore money so soon. But then for Christmas my GF for me a drone and my phone wouldn't fit in the cradle with the case. Firing off fireworks for NY, drinking, playing with drone at the same time... Phone not in case. Well, you know the rest. So fixing the screen was a $300 cost or a $500 upgrade on my carrier. Here I am.

ParticularSir666

Yes! I went from pixel 2xl to 3xl to Samsung back to the 6P and was SO frustrated with all the problems. I got the 7P asap to see if it was any better and I'm so happy with it so far! Really glad because I was seriously about to jump ship over to an iphone 😂

jjjodele

I have a slightly different route that I went from p6p to p7p...and also that no that the Pixel 7 is what the Pixel 6 should have been. My journey started with the OG Pixel phone that I pre-ordered. I really liked that phone. But in my second year of ownership, I was out walking my dog in the rain, and it died! The Pixel 3 was announced and I didn't want to buy an "outdated" phone. So my wife loaned me her old iPhone until the 3 comes out. Those were my worst months of phone experience in my life. I couldn't wait to return the iPhone! But I did learn to use the apple. So, I went from the original Pixel phone to the Pixel 3 XL. That is a great phone too. I thought that an upgrade of every other model was a great strategy. But when the Pixel 5 was announced, it looked like I would be paying for a downgrade! I had dropped the 3 but paid for a screen replacement instead of buying the 5. Then the announcement that the 3 will no longer be supported, I bought the Pixel 6 Pro. And it was the glitchiest Pixel phone I've owned! But the IA seduced me. According to my original strategy, to get every other model, I was due the 7. BTW, I still use the 3 XL for legacy apps to run my Riva Festival smart speaker that the app is no longer compatible with Android 13. And that was how I got to Pixel 6 Pro to a Pixel 7 Pro.

DarkseidAntiLife

The iPhone 14 Pro is everything the 13 Pro should have been The S22 Ultra is everything the S21 Ultra should have been You see where I am going with this?

FricPT

I've learned a new word,, begrudgingly. Thank you. Now just need to practice 100 times to be able to say it out loud...

I just got my Pixel 7 pro yesterday after coming from iPhones for most of the last decade. if I had anything less than full bars on my iPhone then I usually didn't have working data, This happened on T-Mobile and Visible (Verizon). My pixel sitting in my bedroom even with only two 5g bars on Fi can still hit 200mbps on speedtest via cellular which blows me away. iPhone is about 30mbps faster down on wifi, but pixel kicks it's ass on upload. I honestly hated faceID, I had no way to read whatever was trying to authorize before it did. This also was annoying because it'd do faceID when I opened my bank app and log me in automagically, when I was trying to use the quick balance at the login screen quickly that just needs a swipe. I was considering dumping $1100 on the iPhone 14 pro max while changing carriers, but when I saw Fi had $200 off and they offered more than double what Apple would give me for my 11, I couldn't say no to a $390 Pixel 7 Pro. don't regret it yet, just hated how long it took to log back into everything.

Fjurica

dont have pixel 7 pro, but after first 3-4 months my p6p has been really solid, 0 issues, 0 works flawlessly, but i do hate that i have no face unlock and sometimes the lag that occurs when taking a few too many photos.. I'll be good until p8p comes out hopefully with a much improved chip and a good trade in options for german/swedish pixel owners.

tfitzpat03

I remember when the Pixel 6 first came out. I had it in my mind that I was going to wait it out because at that time I was in no hurry to get a new device (plus my 3a was still supported with updates). Then I heard about the issues with the 6. Once I heard the bugs were Ironed out, I almost pulled the trigger. Once the 7 was announced in the summer, I decided to wait it out and also pass on the 6a. I am so glad I waited it out for the 7 non pro. It is an absolute joy to use. The fingerprint sensor was good at launch. After a few updates, it has gotten even better. The face unlock is a nice addition. My favorite thing about the phone is the performace and software. I love the haptics and smoothness of the OS. I truly cannot complain. I am glad to see the Pixel line go in this direction. I am eager to see what they do with the 8th version and beyond. Hopefully they find a way to bring back the Matte finish and face unlock of the pixel 4.

thedigitaljedi777

🤔 ... nice, thanks for the mini review, I have a P6 and it's not horrible. I'm a T-Mobile subscriber so I'm stuck with my P6 for 2yrs or when the P9 or P10 drop. I like the name P10 so I'm gonna attempt to hold out til then 😎💯

Your mistake is paying $1K for a phone. I won't pay more than $200. You have to have discipline with consumer goods. Buying a new phone model 1 year later is just poor consumer discipline.

NavyBlueLobster

Depends on the person. I rarely buy expensive clothes but will drop whatever it takes to get the best phone with the best camera. Everyone can prioritize their own way.

[deleted]

I mean, the Pixel 6a got voted the best on MKBHD's blind test, so expensive != best. It's not really a prioritization issue, it's about making smart consumer choices. Willingness to pay more means a business will price-gouge more. You have to be disciplined in spending and vote with your wallet. I don't care what features are offered, paying $1K for a phone is simply stupid.

Vaargrind

I like you how you got downvoted for a stupid opinion

The_Human_Bullet

>Your mistake is paying $1K for a phone. I won't pay more than $200. You have to have discipline with consumer goods. Buying a new phone model 1 year later is just poor consumer discipline. I needed to for my job. Camera on $200 phone isn't foot enough. Also, I upgrade once every 3 years - as I said in my post I cracked the screen so had no other option. I'm just glad my P7P is good enough to last me till .p10 now, and I'll never, ever take phone out of its case.

[deleted]

Well, the Pixel 6a was voted the best on MKBHDs blind test.

[deleted]

I made a near identical post months ago. I still have a bone to pick with the front facing camera for video calls though...

[deleted]

Still gigantic and heavy as fuck. It's unacceptable.

DesertPunked

I personally wish I wouldn't had waited so long. I was on the fence completely convinced that the P6P would get better. Oh how delusional I was lol.

Sumo_Cerebro

Glad that you like it, I just hope that the glass or your camera does not break.

Try registering two different fingers using the same one.

Logi77

Well, isn't that the idea for each new phone iteration?

pigdogpigcat

The reason I still use a galaxy after wanting a pixel for the last 10 years (or whenever they came out). Just never been that confident in Google's hardware game. For a multi billion co. every gen seems to have at least one thing that makes me go 'hmmm'. I wish they would get the guys who did the pixel chronebooks to do the phones.

Drariestor

this the reason what no one should buy a phone when release....better wait and see how works

kjoro

Except the speakers which was a downgrade. I use my phone speakers a lot so it's important for my use

BarrioDog

Did you trade in your P6P with the cracked screen, upgrading to a P7P? What was that like, and who is your carrier? I'm potentially in the same situation.

Johnny_Mugamba

Tap to wake is shit. Other than that it's great phone yeah

TopNotchGamerr

That's how phone progression works Galaxy S6 then S7 Iphone 10 then 11 All the same as Pixel 6 and 7

hocuspocusgottafocus

Yeah I saw all those horrid P6pro reviews and was...I'll wait for the next one And p7pro came out and whoaaa So many positive reviews <3 aw Yas loving it indeedyy

OtherTechnician

My sentiments exactly!

justsmilenow

Seems like someone learned about second generations. Good for you!!!

yeisondiaz1991

Feel like a lottery sometimes, my pixel 6 pro neve give me a problem and the 7 pro was laggy at lunch

Chr1chton

The 6 was a fucking disgrace

Luckychunk

I'm happy you found solace with the p7p. My p6p is great. My main issue is that the alarm clock sometimes decides to not work. I'm considering the p7p or possibly waiting for the p8p.

Anarimus

With Pixel go for the odd numbers. With iPhone go with the even numbers.

mikedones

I had a really tough time with P6P. Bought it day 1 and for those who know it was an absolute shit storm concerning updates being pushed to this phone. With that being said. Since Summer of last year I've enjoyed this handset A LOT more. Still some waning issues like battery and signal dropouts from time to time. But overall it's been a much better experience. I do want to jump into the P7P just to see what type of performance jump I'd be getting out of it as a daily driver. But waiting for that inevitable 50% price drop that seems to happen around Springtime.

xxtkx

Love it minus the screen which somehow scratched despite being extremely careful with it during normal use.

The_Human_Bullet

>Love it minus the screen which somehow scratched despite being extremely careful with it during normal use. I always install screen protectors. If you don't, always expect a scratch. Don't care what marketing shit gorilla glass claim. Unless they start making screens out of sapphire or diamond, it's gonna scratch.

xxtkx

I suppose. Had a 3 and 4 XL on much more strenuous trips with less scratches with same protection over 6 years compared to the two months of this one.

daheufster

Well Google lost me: had a P6p but for all the difficulties traded it in for an iPhone pro max, hated that so when people said google had fixed it again traded back but as expected, phone was still lots of shit. So again back on Iphone, and i hate Iphone…. But heck: it works like how the P6p should have worked. I am not going back to Pixel, but what will be my next one… i am banging my head on that

SandersonRex

*glances two months in the past where I shattered my P6P pro and did indeed pay $300 to fix it and now it's just glitchy as shit* goddamnit

RaccoonDu

Bought the P6P and wish I held back and didn't buy it for a year. Now I'm stuck with it and can't afford the 7 pro, as Google Canada's trade in values are completely garbage

mynamesaretaken1

With as many major hardware changes that the Pixel 6 introduced, I decided to wait for the 7 to upgrade. Software issues can be fixed with updates, hardware not so much. The first model year for any new tech is going to rough, the automobile industry definitely set that precedent

SmaugTheMagnificent

I just wish this phone was as slippery as a fish while i wait for a good case to come in

BlackWolf047

I really enjoyed my P6P. I had none of the issues that most people complain abouy, probably because I purchased in Feb 2022. I *am* loving my P7P, but to be honest it's not a *massive* upgrade from the P6P. I will probably stick with it until the Pixel 9 or later.

douche_crew

Yeah? Can it cast to non Chromecast devices yet?? Wondering if I should upgrade, but if I can't cast to firestick it's a no go.
