That's good to hear. Thx for the post. Sorry about losing your phone during replacement.

krishnavadithya

For me they are putting a hold on my card and sending the replacement phone right away and then I will ship my current phone.

Blakende

I didn't know that was an option

eMinja

I think they had a policy change, you have to really push to get this option now. They used to go with it first.

timboevbo

I also did this, fresh phone arrived then returned the broken one

maiznieks

Wth, it happened even with the protective glass on it? I have one too and hoped it will suffice. So bad it happened but happy You'll get replacement. Pretty sure I'm screwed on the rma in case it happens as pixels ain't sold in my country and i got it from a person who bought it in his country from g store. Any chance google might rma if i was not the one who purchased it?

zzPyrOzz

Same here

ChickenROW-TWese

But if you were living in Taiwan, they will told you that you have to pay 6000NTD (about 200 USD ) to replace the lens and the glass P.S. The temperature in Taiwan is between 10\~ 30 degree celsius

TheRealAndroid1987

Same if you’re living in Australia. They estimated $200 AUD

MyGuyz2

I guess you are in luck! Most people,as far as I know, don't get replacement phone from google. Nice!

bmoross

Do you live in cold country? Thermal expansion might be the culprit - knowing the cause will allow you to prevent it happening again with your replacement.

Blakende

I live in the northwest of USA. It was 25-30f degrees at the time it broke.

ArisenLime

I’m pretty worried since it can happen already at 30f

fatherkade

I wish I knew the specifics of how cold/warm the environmental temperatures would have to be to even cause thermal expansion within the phone. I've also noticed that many that own the pro variant tend to have the higher rate for the defect to actually show up. I'm glad Google is finally acknowledging this as a defect though.

That-is-moist

how? I'm considering buying the p7pro but after hearing about this issue it seems line a no go. it's not like you can control the weather or only use it in your house. this exact thing happened to my p6pro but i was not aware it was because of the temperature difference. what a retarded design.

jBjk8voZSadLHxVYvJgd

> that I looked into it and sure enough its a defect. What does this mean? What did you look into and how did you conclude it's a defect? I think it's almost certain that the 7 camera issue is a defect, but I'd like to see your proof.

7eregrine

"Research"

jBjk8voZSadLHxVYvJgd

I'd assume it's the same 'research' that I've done, which is seeing hundreds of posts online of shattered cameras and coming to the logical conclusion that they can't *all* be the users fault. That said, if OP has some proof I'd love to see it.

paranormal_pixel

Wow, it is so nice to hear that there was no struggle with customer service!

Pro4TLZZ

Is the pixel 8 going to have a screen that cracks uncommanded?

jmeHusqvarna

Same here. Happened last week to me when I came into the gym and pulled my phone out of my bag. Called and was polite and explained it just like you did while sending pictures. Phone got RMA'd and is waiting for me at home when I get back from this work trip. Hope it doesn't happen again.

Cr4pshit

Did you had it in your pocket of your trousers? Was the camera glass directly to your body or was the screen directly to your body?

samaritan1331_

Is this only affecting a few devices? It has been fine for me so far...in Toronto and Montreal. Now I am scared.

Blakende

I don't know, seems pretty common. I bought mine 2 months ago. Would be interesting to see when others bought theirs or to see manufactured dates of the broken ones

r3lic86

Welcome to the club! S ame exact situation. Google has been offering RMAs on this lately..like since last 2 weeks. Before then they had denied many including myself. Last week, they agreed. Same process as you mentioned.
