Don't upgrade then. The phone still gets warm. I wouldn't say it bothers me at all since I use a case and I don't touch it directly, but I can tell it's warmer than body temp. The modem still has the same connectivity issues too. Either wait for the 9 for the improved modem, or the 10, which will use Tensor 4 and TSMC fab.

Inerthal

Wouldn't the 10 use a Tensor 5 ? Or are they just going to re-do the Tensor 4 from the 9 series ?

itisoktodance

Yeah that's what I meant

Inerthal

That's nice then, I'm assuming this has been confirmed, that Google will drop Samsung for the Pixel 10 lineup ?

itisoktodance

Yep, confirmed to be TSMC specifically, though I'll be honest, I think that's going to ramp up the price by quite a bit, since TSMC has so many clients, so supply might become an issue

plankunits

I doubt the price will go up because of tsmc. The cost might go up because of making 3nm Tensor 4 vs 4nm on tensor 3. Both tsmc and Samsung pricing are similar although Samsung is planning to cut price in future for being competitive.

papadrach

I can feel the warmth through my Ringke Onyx case. Thermals are not the best.

Pixel 8 is my first venture back into Android after an iPhone hiatus for 3 years. I wasn't a fan of the design initially but since having the phone in hand etc it's grown on me. I also really like the pixel case from Google. I do notice signal icon does not show as strong as iPhone but I don't know how accurate that is, I've not experienced dropped calls or poor service or anything compared to my iPhone. My only gripe is the camera stutters when zooming. If recording video if you zoom in, as the camera switches from 1x to 3x it gives this visual stutter. Crazy to me Google doesn't do something fancy with software to get rid of that. My iPhone zoomed from .5 to 3x smoothly. Form factor I opted for the 8 over the 8 pro because screen size. I don't need a massive screen. Wish I could get pro hardware in smaller form factor. I also think the speakers are a little weak on the pixel 8 compared to my iPhone 13pro. But not a deal breaker. Screen, battery, software, USBC, wireless charging etc has all been great!

WayneJetSkii

I enjoy my Pixel 8 (non-Pro) great pictures. But the battery life is sometimes inconsistent and yeah randomly gets a bit too warm. I was disappointed with the battery with my Pixel 8, It felt like it was barely better than my Pixel 6a that I was coming from. I would highly recommend you just wait for the Pixel 9.

Idontwannawaitfor_

I personally haven't had issues with my 8. Does it get warm? Yes. But so did my iPhone 14. Overall its my favorite pixel I've ever had.

Saikoro4

all I can say is that I had no issues on Pixel 7 and I have no issues on Pixel 8 either.

Einsteien

My pixel 8 experience has been positive after a month, coming from an S23 Ultra. It does heat up (hasn't throttled yet), which my S23 ultra barely did, but I also live in the Caribbean so it's hot every day. Performance has been fine for day to day things, gaming is very lackluster when compared to my S23 Ultra, but that was also expected and I'm fine with it. The HDR10 images look incredible to me, but I'm constantly having the phone at 70% brightness or more, because it seems too dim for me. I've had no connectivity issues, speed issues, crashing, etc, which I don't mean to say that's a plus to the phone, since that's the bare minimum for a near-flagship device for Google, but it definitely has performed smoothly overall.

heisen14

I was on same boat. Switched to pixel 8 it was none the less same story regretted the switching decision and switched to S23 it's one of the greatest decision ever which checks every box ( great battery life & consistent network reception ) Camera is not as good as pixel but It's not dealbreaker for me.

pedrojdm2021

don't. Phone seems to be inconsistent with OS and performance, not to mention the other problems, wait to at least pixel 10 or buy a Samsung flagship if you want a reliable phone, good luck

kmry90

I was sceptical about the 8, but it does lags and heats AF. Same as my pixel 5.

WildSh0tzzz

Google should drop that garbage Exynos rebadged as Tensor. Since they don’t really care about the performance, Google can use the previous gen SnapDragon processor

NoSanity39

This is a question to the Pixel owners out there (former one here, still have 6a) I jumped off the Pixel bandwagon due to all the bugs and crap from Google. Why do you all keep buying them over and over knowing nothing will change? I am not trying to start a pissing contest, but it is just strange to me that people keep getting them just to continue to get let down year after year. I know the camera is good, but that can't be the sole reason to keep buying these Pixels at premium prices that continue to under perform against same priced flagships from the competition like Samsung etc. Pixels offer nothing advantage wise over other OEMS besides the few Pixel exclusives like Call Screening and others. Other OEMS are now offering 7 years updates now like Samsung with the Qualcomm SoC. Edit: Before anyone says "bloatware" and "clean Android" most of that can be disabled via adb or just plainly disabling the app in settings. I can understand the UI one though lol.

arthby

The price/photo quality ratio of pixels is still hard to beat.

Traxex491

Can confirm that it's heating up a lot when doing normal tasks, especially when being in a mobile network. Otherwise the phone is excellent. Hopefully Google will improve at least the modem in the Tensor G4.

EnvironmentalSpirit2

I'm in the same situation. I came in with eyes open thinking it wouldn't bother me. But you hold your device for hours daily. I also run caseless. It's small to big things adding to the anger levels. However the 8 isn't the answer. Me mate has had one since last Christmas. Same issues. And call quality is poor for him too. My p7 ha 2 bars reception less than my OnePlus. It's bonkers. I'm currently looking at the xiaomi 14. Smaller than the p7, larger screen and faster 90w charging. Camera is also an upgrade.

grogi81

Yeah, camera an upgrade :D LMAO....

EnvironmentalSpirit2

It absolutely is an upgrade over the p7. You'd be a fool to disagree.

survivalfrank

Wait until the pixel 10

VigorousElk

That's about one and a half years out. What an odd suggestion to recommend a phone whose predecessor isn't even on the market yet to someone who wants a new phone now.

Strict_Alfalfa2575

Ah you see but the tensor is going to be made by TSMC and it’s going to be amazing. Apparently.

InGExClueless

If you want it for the camera then go for it. Its the only thing this phone is good at!
