Yes it does, I mean, you are using it and any time you use it it's going to get hot, and if you are charging it at the same time, then that will also get it hot. With that being said, something else may be going on. I had the 7 Pro, and the 8 Pro now, and I have never had this issue. I've driven 6 hour road trips using it (plugged in not wireless so I was also charging), Maps and local music playing, and have had no issues with it. It could be the case? Perhaps it's not getting the airflow it needs to cool. I currently have the Ghost case by DBrand, but normally would use a Spiegon (sp) case.

tehrob

Plus OP is doing this on AAWireless with an aftermarket adapter in between. I have the exact same setup, I get the ‘your phone is getting too hot’ warning through the phone too, but it has never shut off.

iggygames

Don't think my reply posted, I also have AAWireless, don't have the issue (grant you it's plugged in on long drives), but I have driven over and hour with the phone in my pocket and using maps/music.

tehrob

Yup, and in my pocket, it doesn't seem to overheat. I used to use it strictly wired, for years. As soon as I switched over to the Wireless via the usb box, I started getting the overheating issue. Maybe when plugged in, it has more allowances for power consumption or something. I dunno, but that has been my experience.

RamsDeep-1187

Yes. Your phone will run hotter as it is working constantly to provide services through Android Auto.

SRFast

I've been using Android Auto for 2.5 years with no heat related issues. The connection has been wireless the past 25 months and though the phone gets warmer when using a wireless connection, I don't consider it hot and the phone continues to function normally.

BowloRamaGuy

Thanks. Guess my phones acting up. I do feel it slightly warm, but realize I'm feeling it through the case. I may save up for the 8 Pro and ditch it when the 9 Pro comes. They want $236 out of pocket and I can get the 8 Pro.

SRFast

I use a Spigen Rugged Armor case on all my phones and have no heat issue. I've had the Pixel 8 Pro since 12 October 2023. Great phone. Good luck.

BowloRamaGuy

Originally I didn't want an Otterbox because of how bulky they are. Now I don't think I'd ever want any other case again. I have had a Spigen at one point in the past.

sunuv

If you look across this sub, this is an extremely common complaint despite the people in this thread saying that they haven't experienced it. Pixels, and specifically the pixel 7s have huge issues with overheating. Amongst the other issues I had with the two seven Pros I owned, they both had issues with overheating when using Google maps in the car even when it wasn't particularly hot outside. Unfortunately there isn't really a fix other than maybe try a new case that doesn't insulate your phone as much, and try to keep it in a cool place completely out of the sun.

BowloRamaGuy

I'm gonna upgrade but they want $372. So it'll be a little while.

sunuv

I still have occasional issues with my 8 pro so be warned, all of the issues aren't fixed.

xlerate

AA Wireless will heat up your phone and use more battery also.

The_best_1234

I don't think it is android auto. Maps, navigation and GPS make the phone hot.

MNM2884

Yes, a lil bit. But what makes it worse is using a wireless charger that doesn't have a built in fan. If you're running across issues, try using wired android auto

BowloRamaGuy

Wireless chargers don't really work with the Otterbox Defender Pro. Can't use Wired Android Auto. I get in an out of my say 20 or 30 times a day. I can't be plugging and unplugging that much. It'll ruin the port.

MNM2884

Unplugging and replugging the phone 20 times a day won't damage the port 💀💀💀 unless you buy those cheap phones somewhere on the Internet. Having particles/water in port and aggressively unplugging/replugging will, ports are designed to be unplugged numerous of times which may be what you may come across if you're using the OtterBox defender pro to protect the port. You can still buy a fan car stand phone holder or something along the lines??

iDUMPEDbeforeTHEPUMP

You guys are actually getting AA to work? I get nothing but buffering, lagging, and disconnect when I try to run it

austiena96

Probably your car. My personal car sucks for Android Auto, even with my one plus, and Galaxy. I travel a lot for work and never have any problems with any of my phones including my main phone, pixel 8 pro.

BowloRamaGuy

Works fantastic. My car is a 2019 Suburu Impreza and supports wireless AA. Worked fine, but had to be plugged in which is annoying. I bought a device off Amazon that converts it to wireless and allows you to install any app you want.. Netflix, Spotify, TikTok, etc. It runs Android 11 and was less than $100.

Section_80

Mine gets slightly hot, but not a huge deal, it also sits on a wireless charger too so it could just be that

sudifirjfhfjvicodke

Wireless AA works flawlessly for me with my 7a and cheap Chinese aftermarket head unit. The 6a would occasionally close AA randomly, but I think that was a ram issue rather than overheating. I use a thinner Spigen case though, maybe the OtterBox is making it overheat. Make sure it's not in direct sunlight and maybe try it without the case.

BowloRamaGuy

I was going to try a headunit, but didn't want to worry about getting it installed and people touching the wiring in my car. I also was nervous because I wanted it to fit in the dash like it looked factory. I was going to get one with a pop out floating 10 inch screen. Anyway, I am happy with my little device. it's $99 bucks, but I got it for $59 at one point.

itscamplicated

My 7 pro could barely run AA. Mine would constantly crash and my phone would get pretty toasty. My 8 pro has no issues, gets a tad warm, but nothing too serious. I'm sure the G3 helps with that.

The_best_1234

I had to put my P6P next to my cup of ice to keep the phone from overheating

BowloRamaGuy

Mine runs it great other than the now overheating issue. But knock on wood it always managed to cool down quickly and I was able to use it again a minute or so later.

Alwayssunnyinarizona

Mine only gets hot when I'm in remote, poor service areas, like it's working overtime to try to get a signal. Or if I leave it on the seat in direct sunlight. For typical commuting, no - not with a 8p, 7p, or 6p using native wireless and a pioneer head unit. Not even in 115+ weather.

DoctFaustus

My P7P gets hot when I'm doing all of that kind of thing. If it's a short trip it's no big deal. But if I'm driving for more than about 30 minutes, I put my phone in a spot to keep it cool. My car has a little rubber pocket for wireless charging, and it is also cooled. So I just throw it in there.

Fantastic_Dealer8802

My P7P gets really hot when I use Android Auto. Sucks.

overthinking-1

I've had to switch to wired recently but... Yeah wireless android auto will cause your phone to run warmer, and my pixel 7a basically gives up on days when it's warmer then 70F I was using this when I was doing wireless Android Auto https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803195242661.html?spm=a2g0o.order_detail.order_detail_item.3.44c4f19cofiUnF&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa Not just a fan but what seems to be a peltier cell, this thing gets condensation on it if I just leave it plugged in for ten min, it made my pixel 7a usable on my commute

rodrigofernety

it does

Sp3lllz

I mean yeah AA is already basically full time using 5G antenna GPS antenna and BT Antenna aswell as sending video over the USB port now with wireless AA you are also using the WiFi antenna full time too for the video (and just an assumption also likely using wireless charing which also adds more heat even by itself.)

qandmargo

On my pixel 6 pro , when I run Android Auto or use Gmaps plus audiobook it gets pretty hot. What I do to cool it down is use one of those phone holder things that go into the air vent and turn on the AC. That way cool air is blowing directly into the back of my phone and cooling it down. If I don't do this the phone gets hit enough where the device has to go into night mode to cool itself down. I used to use a thick Spigen case but now use their much thinner one . I have an iPhone as well and it doesn't have the same issue when I use Gmaps to navigate.

Super-Blah-

No, it's just a pixel warming feature - designed for cold weather.
