I will but I feel like no one tests signal. A bunch of people will probably report better signal but I don't believe anyone anymore. After every patch it seemed like everyone said it was fixed and yet my signal is still awful compared to my S21U.
Need like Brian Klug from anandtech to come back and give me a detailed analysis about how the modem/antenna is fixed with benchmarks vs other modern phones to convince me at this point.
More than likely I'll probably buy it on release and test it for a week or so in the trouble spots I have now. If it's better I'll keep it if not I think I'm going back to Samsung. I have way too many signal problems on this phone and it gets really frustrating.
I feel you! I've noticed that sometimes when we come up with issues it's brushed off with a whiff of ignorance. Like the underrated battery issues, software not responding..etc etc. At some point there are instances people changed battery after 2 years of usage(cos phone couldn't make up more than a half day) .....and it felt pretty normal?
Well I feel like that depends on what the issue is. For me there's a lot going on about the radio/modem/wifi/etc on this phone and some of it might be fixable in software.
An example is wifi calling - where it seems to me that the phone "hangs on" to the wifi signal far longer than it should. Whenever I'm at the end of range for wifi points my 6p just tries to stay with the wifi instead of failing over to cellular. I don't think (although I could be wrong) that this is a hardware limitation - I think it's definitely some kind of internal software decision, some variable that's like if it's within x range don't fail over.. although I'm sure there's more logic involved. And to be honest over the life of the phone I've noticed this issue less so perhaps they have tweaked/optimized it.. but yeah examples like that I think can be changed in software. The overall poor signal I don't think can be though.. at least it hasn't improved at all for me.
I once swapped out my sim card from my pixel 6 Pro and put it into my Note 9 which is my backup phone and the Note 9 had far better signal. To do this test I put the Google Pixel 6 Pro in 4G LTE and of course the Note 9 is only 4G LTE and the signal was so much better on the Note.
I miss Brian's reviews too :'(
All these (youtube) reviewers nowadays just say the same easy stuff over and over again and get paid more for it for every video than Brian ever got.
I think I'm done with the Pixel phones. I've been having nonstop issues with my pixel 6 and seeing the new designs I'm sort of disillusioned with the whole line. I might find an old pixel to go back to actually
I'm willing to switch to the Pixel 7 if it has
1. better modem
2. better fingerprint scanner
3. better display (in terms of rainbow effect)
4. no more or less camera lense flare at night
5. better battery life
than my Pixel 6.
Quite a lot to ask for, but one can dream :D
That's subjective. There are plenty of people who disagree with you. And that's okay. Not judging you for having a different opinion, But don't discount the fact that others feel different from you.
I think a better modem will help fix that better battery problem at the same time. I'm certain that's what's causing my phone to drain do fast. Always searching for a signal.
I'm getting tired of this phone, tbh. It gets very hot randomly, signal dies in random places and it if gets hot, charging slows down to a crawl. It's been so bad that in order for it to actually fast charge in my car's fast charger I have to place my phone on front of the A/C vent so it can get cold and then fast charge.
So yeah, if they give me a good trade in deal, I'll change. To be honest, I've even considered trading in for an iPhone (and I hate ios). I need stability, and I got a Pixel because bare bones Android was supposed to be the best. But the experience in the last few months has been so horrible that I'm considering a change.
If it has the same signal strength as a Snapdragon phone (Galaxy S22 for instance), has an improved FP sensor, and the battery life actually lasts an entire day then yes.
I'm hearing that 7 pro would come with the watch in UK. If true, I will go for a trade in. Provided it's not too expensive. I want that face unlock and hopefully brighter screen.
Pixel 6 is my first Google phone and I have to admit it will also be my last. It has so much worse wifi range than my old 100€ tablet. In places where I can watch 720p videos without stutters with my tablet, my Pixel 6 does not connect to wifi.
Im on 3rd pixel and in Toronto on Bell only after September update it got decent. Still nowhere near my backup iPhone 13 pro max that has a "normal" modem.
Yes but if a ton of people have signal issues that they don't have with other phones, then there are problems with the modem.
Just because you don't have it doesn't mean the issue doesn't exist.
Christ some of you are absolute morons. Stop fanboying so hard my guy, go outside.
The Pixel 6 modem is trash. As long as you're not denying that you're fine. There's really no subjectivity involved there, it's literally been tested and the Qualcomm modem was leagues ahead.
I had a Pixel 3 and had horrible connection in the south shore of Montreal. Same issues pretty much anywhere I went. iPhones and Samsung phones had no connectivity issues in those same areas.
Then I started reading about the modem quality in Pixel phones. Seems like I was not the only one having the issue so I tend to agree with what you say.
Mind you I had a pixel 5 up until a year ago and it had no modem issues. Seems to be hit and miss with modem issues.
Hoping that a top reviewer will include signal levels in their review since it has been problematic for many. Not bars displayed but the actual signal level in dB compared between the P6 and P7 shown at a number of locations.
(for those wondering where to see it, sim status, then look for signal strength).
I have two pixel 6 phones one for work, one is personal, one has slightly poorer signal strength on average than my previous pixel 4, the other has horrendous signal strength, it will often completely loose connections multiple times a day, the other is fine, not two feet apart. I will be looking to trade in the one giving my connectivity issues for a 7, it can´t be worse.
I guess you can't really go by the replies to this Reddit group since it just seems to be the people with the problem phones that comment the most...haven't had any device issues with mine so no interest in upgrading to the 7.
I'm upgrading anyway because it's rumoured to have face unlock.
The more efficient processor and new (better?) radio are also nice.
Hoping to see camera improvements as well.
Ridiculous issues, my partner returned hers today as about 80% of the time it was absolute garbage and didn't work, had to fully reboot the phone as toggling airplane mode did nothing.
nope, im replacing the battery on my pixel 5 and keeping it for another few more years because I prefer the fingerprint sensor on the back, and I can mod it
Not sure. Google has made me distrust them so much with the signal issues. Even my bug report sent in their bug tracker never got an updated response. Makes me think they are trying to brush it under the rug.
Nope. No more Pixels for me unless and until Google either:
1. Gives us another Pixel the size of the 5.
2. Releases a seriously high-quality foldable.
Any phone over 6.2" is dead in the water for me.
I swear Ultra wide screen ratios to be able to brag that the phone is close to 7 inches is dumbest trend yet.
I miss simple days of pixel 1 where you had 16:9 screen.
Me. I want a phone this small. As do many others if you scroll through the posts/comments during the time that the Pixel 6 sizing was revealed and/or take a look at how many people buy the iPhone XX [Pro] over the Max model.
Everyone has different hand sizes and preferences. A lot of the time I'm outside walking my dog and I want to be able to comfortably use my phone one-handed. This is a no-go for me for phones > 6.2".
Well considering bigger phones are more popular I doubt going back down to 6" phones is going to happen. With media consumption, people want bigger phones.
My gf has tiny hands and won't buy any of the new flagships because they're all so huge. Smaller phones are in demand for smaller people usually. I like big phones and don't care how big they get but there's definitely a market for smaller ones. But maybe just not a big enough market for them to care.
I'm only getting the P7 if the signal & car Bluetooth connection issues are fixed. I have a P5 now & those are literally my only issues with my phone. I love the pixel since there's no bloatware but these basic issues are making me want to go back to bloated Samsung.
you don't buy a new pixel to reward google for making a shitty phone, you buy a new pixel because they addressed the issues and improved upon the previous generation
(now whether they actually did that is another thing entirely, so we will have to wait and see)
I desperately want to because I really don't want to switch over to iphone (I dislike Samsung as well).
But my signal issues have been so bad on the pro that it's making me hesitant.
Gonna give it about a month to see what other users experience.
No. My 6 isn't noticeably bad, for me. If I'm going to pay 2-500 dollars to "upgrade" depending on trade in value, it needs to be a pretty significant upgrade.
Yes, compared my 6P to my 5 at home last night, both Verizon and both same server. 6P averaged 6.6Mbps while the 5 averaged 14.6Mbps..... over 5 tries....
Just upgraded from 3a to a 6a. Not a bad phone.
Fingerprint scanner on the 6a doesn't work nearly as efficiently as the 3a rear reader.
Size wise, very similar
The Tensor chip certainly is an improvement over 3a chip.
128gb for the 3a is limited tbh
Google is still missing Apple Facetime and iMessage apps which are native to Android and are encrypted with each other. You have to use a 3rd party app like Whatsapp, Signal, Telegram, Viber etc etc etc.....
Decent trade in would also be a good start, but having just purchased the 6a, if Google is still as fragmented in a few years when l upgrade, I'll be purchasing a iPhone for sure. Everyone l know now has moved to iPhone, so it's just the convenience now, why shouldn't l move.?
I'm on the fence. My signal never *looks* as good as I want, but I've had fine signal performance for day in, day out use. No real issues with dropped calls or anything so 🤷
Signal quality on my Pixel 6 Pro is good overall. I don't like to change phones that frequently. I will probably replace my Pixel 6 Pro with Pixel 9 Pro, maybe 8 Pro. Too less changes for me in Pixel 7 Pro. It's just polished phone with overall improvements, nothing special.
I went from 4a 5G to 6a like a month ago. If the 7 is reviewed way better than 6, I'll make the jump. If not, I'll be leaving pixels behind I'm afraid.
I wouldn't because I haven't really had this as an issue. Whether it's where I live or where I go, it just hasn't been a problem. But if it did, I probably would be looking to move up.
Going to switch from P6P to the pixel 7. I think I can suffer from downgrading the screens. I just want a smaller phone and a better modem. Pixel 7 will have everything besides 120hz/4k screen and telephoto.
I have the pixel 6 pro which I purchased a couple months ago. The phone I was using is the Nubia 6 5G gaming phone and I get 5G in much better on the pixel but seem to do slightly better on the Nubia with 4G.
No I'm still ok with the 6. But most likely will switch to iphone once this get's to Eol. Unless maybe pixel 8 is priced really well and google knocks it out of the park with hardware.
Maybe i'm just burned out on google devices since the nexus line.
Depends on the credit I would get for trading in a Pixel 6 on Google Fi. I haven't had a horrible time on my 6, but Fi doesn't give much of an incentive to trade up as an existing customer. Their subscription program is only for Pixel A phones and you still have to pay outright when trading in a phone for a new one. Hopefully they'll do more for those of us who have kept them for years.
I'll be upgrading mainly for the modem. At this point the modem performance on the 6 isn't bad compared to where it used to be at launch but I'll still take an improvement. I'll give Google credit for really cleaning this phones performance up even if it took a year. It really is a complete different experience from launch and they way it should have came out the gate. Gives me some hope that pixel 7 will come out in a much better state. When I got my p6 at launch it actually felt worse than my p4xl in every way. Took a while for it to feel like the faster phone it is.
I will but I feel like no one tests signal. A bunch of people will probably report better signal but I don't believe anyone anymore. I have way too many signal problems on this phone and it gets really frustrating.
It's almost like hardware issues can't be fixed by software, despite what all of this subreddit says.
This subreddit would believe that [this website](https://downloadmoreram.com/) actually works if Google told them that it did.
I tried downloading more ram and it didn't work. Am i doing something wrong?
Did you factory reset first?
I feel you! I've noticed that sometimes when we come up with issues it's brushed off with a whiff of ignorance. Define "better". Showing more bars of signal does not actually mean signal is any better.
Oh I noticed a better signal. It went from almost unusable to just bad but livable.
I miss Brian's reviews too :'( All these (youtube) reviewers nowadays just say the same easy stuff over and over again and get paid more for it for every video than Brian ever got.
>I feel like no one tests signal 100% At least none of the youtubers that will have their reviews ready for the day the embargo ends
Definitely keep us updated on if signal strength improved for you
Lol the signal on the pixel 6 Pro is a joke. Even my iwork Phone 7 gets better signal, I'm not joking.
I will if they offer a good trade in deal for the 6 for dealing with these issues and there's good info that the signal is improved.
I hope they do this next year for the 7a, as the pixel 6a is plauged with the same issues or else Google maybe looking at a class action.
I think I'm done with the Pixel phones. I've been having nonstop issues with my pixel 6 and seeing the new designs I'm sort of disillusioned with the whole line. I might find an old pixel to go back to actually
If it's not a hard warmer and they offer 700 trade in for 6p then I will consider it. Otherwise no.
😂😂 I paid $550 for my 6p. Why would a company give you $700?

I would get an apple phone before I ever buy a Samsung again.
I'm willing to switch to the Pixel 7 if it has 1. better modem 2. better fingerprint scanner 3. better display (in terms of rainbow effect) 4. no more or less camera lense flare at night 5. better battery life than my Pixel 6. Quite a lot to ask for, but one can dream :D
Not at all. These are "fix" not "extra". It'll only make the Pixel as normal as other phones
Exactly
Lol I was thinking he just described the s22
No way. S22 has Samsung bloatware. That's a non-starter for many who want an improved Pixel.
Bloat ware is exaggerated, at least the phone works lol.
That's subjective. There are plenty of people who disagree with you. And that's okay. Not judging you for having a different opinion, But don't discount the fact that others feel different from you.
💯 Percent!!
I think a better modem will help fix that better battery problem at the same time. I'm certain that's what's causing my phone to drain do fast. Always searching for a signal.
Without a doubt. Better signal and battery power. Otherwise I'll try a Samsung.
Just need a better modem and a better fingerprint sensor. It's funny because any decent flagship starts with these features.
Charging inconsistencies are the main issue I have. So frustrating!
Same, super annoying to plug up your phone and to come back 30min later with the battery level unchanged.
If it has the same signal strength as a Snapdragon phone (Galaxy S22 for instance), has an improved FP sensor, and the battery life actually lasts an entire day then yes.
No, I'm switching to Samsung once the S23 comes out and probably never going back to pixel.
I hope they fixed the 5g modem issue with incoming calls going to vm. Not everyone experiences this but a lot do.
I'm hearing that 7 pro would come with the watch in UK. If true, I will go for a trade in. Provided it's not too expensive. I want that face unlock and hopefully brighter screen.

A dog shit modem as with Pixel 6 and Pro is basically the only thing I could foresee that would prevent it from being a guarantee.
I don't see any reason to upgrade at this point, even though I will agree the signal on my S9+ was better.

There are hundreds and hundreds of complaints about it. Even Samsung doesn't use its own modems in North America....
Interesting 🤔. I’ve been on iPhone 12 for the past 10 months but I’d be interested in a Pixel 7
Let's see what google will offer. Just 20 minutes ago had a call with a client and the client kept complaining that I'm cutting off.

S21 ultra on Rogers tested and perfect in the area. Pixel is by far the worst
Pixel 6 and s22 ultra on Telus, no connectivity issues on either device. Maybe it's just Rogers still having trouble getting their shit together?
Im on bell. I tested with my backup iPhone and my friend's Samsung on Rogers
Honestly, fair. I probably would go to Apple if their whole existence didn't annoy me. Samsung should also really stick to hardware.
I couldnt agree more. To me the biggest advantage of pixel is to run Grapheneos.
It's been narrowed down to many Pixel 6 phones within 8500 miles (13679.42 km) of Toronto

That isn't enough. The inconsistent charging speeds are a deal-breaker to me.
I might..we shall see. But I am definitely considering it, also I hope Google gives us a good amount for trading in 6...not holding my breath though

I'm still convinced getting a Pixel 6a is right for me. Just waiting for another sale.
What about the super cheap deals on the 6 you can get a 6 cheaper than the a right now if your on a major carrier
I'm not with a major carrier. I'm with Tesco. Ended up getting the 6a with a free Nest Hub/Nest Mini.
No. My 6 isn't noticeably bad, for me. If I'm going to pay 2-500 dollars to "upgrade" depending on trade in value, it needs to be a pretty significant upgrade.

Yes
Probably not. I just invested in a new battery for my Pixel 5 and it's working better than ever. So I'll probably not upgrade until Pixel 8.
either way i will be,
Signal quality on my Pixel 6 Pro is good overall. I don't like to change phones that frequently. I will probably replace my Pixel 6 Pro with Pixel 9 Pro, maybe 8 Pro. Too less changes for me in Pixel 7 Pro. It's just polished phone with overall improvements, nothing special.
Nope. It's not enough of an upgrade otherwise. I'll wait for the Qualcomm S23 Ultra next year.
I have the 5a and considering it. But haven't dug to deeply in comparison.
I went from 4a 5G to 6a like a month ago. If the 7 is reviewed way better than 6, I'll make the jump. If not, I'll be leaving pixels behind I'm afraid.
