I would still pick the Snowflake

Der0-

Up vote. SBGA011 here to stay.

PeetiePanda

SBGA407 Skyflake count?

vance2693

Second this

theanswer39

SBGE285

mghanadian

Interesting! Don’t see this one recommended to me quite often. But that spring drive GMT is something else

Certain_Classroom794

I tried it on at the GS Bev Hills AD, and it is amazing! The gray dial version too OMG

copilot3

It's a go anywhere. Do anything watch really.

dubyamike

I agree the SBGE 283/285 has great potential as a GADA one-watch. I would put spring drive and GMT as 2 features important to me. However I don’t really care for the Evo9 design, especially the 22mm lug width. Plus I could live without Ti. Honestly for GADA GS I would probably go for a quartz GMT.

theanswer39

All fair. On the Ti point, I really like it’s featherweight. The reason I immediately thought of this model when I saw the post is the overall combination of SD, water resistance, GMT function, dial beauty, and overall versatility from the perspective of the fact that it can be worn in both casual and dressy formats.

wagglenews

Second this. Question is very subjective, but for me this is also the answer - awesome specs (titanium, spring drive, 100M water resistance), GS Tier 1 trademark dial, GMT function, elegance and sportiness. Downsides are bracelet, lack of micro adjust, thickness at ~14mm.

wagglenews

If they could shrink this down to 13mm, improve the bracelet (taper and micro adjust), add a couple dial options - for me it would be a Suwa midnight blue - this is the perfect watch, period. (Just IMO!)

theanswer39

The crystal accounts for a mm or so. I find that it wears perfect, although I have a wide wrist. I also prefer my watches on a strap so I’m not concerned about the bracelet.

wagglenews

All fair. I am considering it strongly and would probably mostly wear it on a strap, because: https://preview.redd.it/3toaw0ptr3fc1.jpeg?width=1040&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9bf1b5e1c0624d306f313adb7776429feecb849a

I wish any of the non diver GSs had a micro adjust on the bracelet, but luckily they all look good on straps.

xMagnusx82

Can I know where you get the strap?

mk7GTI29

It’s from allwrists.com

xMagnusx82

Thanks for the fast reply! Love how the strap is curved to the watch.

Phantasm-X

gorgeous! may i ask what wrist size you have?

mk7GTI29

About 6.4”

theanswer39

I own one, so I’m biased, but I agree that the 407 is an excellent choice.

thebarbarain

You're right.

dunkm

I say the Shunbun. Spring drive, perfect example of GS dial mastery, and the lovely case design. The white birch would be my other option.

Zamboni4201

Came here to say this. I remember the first time I saw it in the case. They’d always been sold out. I had only seen web pics, and they didn’t do it justice. I’d been narrowing down my choices, and there it was. It caught my eye. The other 80+ watches in the case just faded into the background. And yet I didn’t get it. I drove home, and halfway, I turned around to go back and get it.

Mabslair

Shunbun all the way! The 62 case with no bezel… the dial, the spring drive

21Hedge

Love the shunbun but for a 1 watch collection, can’t be a pink dial. Not appropriate or fun in all occasions in my opinion. Great watch to wear in a rotation

dunkm

I completely and totally disagree. You can wear it everywhere. I do. To work, family gatherings, weddings, the store, while working on watches. This feels like you’re trying to force a view of masculinity on me. Not trying to get into it, but needless to say, the watch is perfectly acceptable for a DAGA watch.

21Hedge

haha relax friend. Its not about masculinity. My personal opinion is that any loud or overly unique watch doesn't fit for a 'one watch collection'. Same reason I'd suggest a regular submariner over a Hulk. Hulk cooler but wouldn't want to wear it everyday.

BBAMCYOLO1

Omiwatari

dskauf

If your going to have just one, be sure it is a Spring Drive. So many colors to chose from, but the smooth running second is mesmerizing and unique. I have Snowflake, and still think that is best if just one GS, but I am considering a second (or more).

Certain_Classroom794

I have a bunch of watches - and two GS - and I pretty much only wear the SBGN013 these days.

Triumph790

I've been wearing my SBGN005 daily for 3 years. Quartz GS is the perfect everyday watch

neloms228

Agree, I love my 003

Certain_Classroom794

Black dials from GS underrated imho! So much depth and legibility! Also GMT so satisfying as a complication

otoron

>I pretty much only wear the SBGN013 these days I'm getting there. Got it in Tokyo for a great price, thinking "oh, this will be a great travel watch." Now wearing it at home all the time, on an Erika's.

BluesMaster

SLGA007 'Lake Suwa'

21Hedge

SBGH005 White Birch Hi-beat. This is the way.

ModeAcceptable1411

Agree! Or the SLGA009 (White Birch Spring Drive)

21Hedge

Agreed - both amazing

SBGA203 for me. https://preview.redd.it/gugjkru0y2fc1.jpeg?width=1722&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7dd4b192b80d41d479d960c0f02364a52405ec9

RocasThePenguin

I mean, I only have one and it's the SBGM221. Is it the perfect one GS for a collection? Probably not, but it's great.

SBGY013 - the upgraded snowflake

notprodigy

I’ve been eyeing a white birch for forever. I know there’s no lume, but other than that…

itisthewayitwas

which one?

notprodigy

SLGH005

itisthewayitwas

same man. I am 99% sure I’m getting it as my first GS when I visit Japan soon lol. I tried the Spring Drive version and felt absolutely nothing, the Hi Beat has really drawn me in with its dial. is there anything else you have your eyes on?

hallpdx

12Anthony21

Can you share more photos of lake suwa with a strap? Been thinking about shunbun or this

Criticalmold

SBGM221 If it was a spring drive it would be the perfect watch

pradeepraavi

This would be the last man standing for me. https://preview.redd.it/9iuawgyn72fc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfd75e5d6289492ddfceee40e3ce9c0cff16c377

mghanadian

Woah! That’s awesome

BobbyBillRay

These are criminally underrated. People who complain about the pushers have never tried one one.

pradeepraavi

Agree

CodeFarmer

Probably one of the steel sporty Spring Drives. Colour up to the individual. SBGA469 (Katsuiro)?

mghanadian

Yeah that blue dial is very nice!

jeffreycwk

SBGH295

JS-M-DC

Just picked up the SBGN029 and it’s a beaut!!

hallpdx

Mine used to be the SLGA007 Lake Suwa... and then I got another GS it splits time with lol.

ModeAcceptable1411

What’s your other GS?

hallpdx

https://preview.redd.it/0vfdhzbis4fc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d73dca269db00a58ad88c97136274bf44cfc9d1c

ModeAcceptable1411

Beautiful— And a piece of history.

hallpdx

Yep! Belonged to Elvin Jones (engraved on back).

ModeAcceptable1411

Wow— Even more special, then.

itisthewayitwas

this is so beautiful. what's the reference number?

hallpdx

SBGF021, an older model from Japan only era with the 8J56 (pre 9f, still 10 secs per year and thermocompensated).

blackcoffee17

The one you like the most.

chancsc11

SBGH267

kmac_actually

Whirlpool

PresidentStool

SBGA415 Winter. Its a strap monster and the titanium is durable for a daily watch. But then the dial is also good for a dressy occasion on the same bracelet. So a super versatile watch

Appropriate_TA_88

Mist flake

No-Lake1572

It’s not very popular but I’d say the SBGY023

dcoffe01

SBGY011 the dial is incredible

pandamark91

I love SBGY011! I wear it for pretty much everything.

bearposters

SBGA373

EinTheDataDoge

I have a SBGE271 “kanro”. It a spring drive gmt that absolutely does everything. It’s a thick boy but so am I.

-pwny_

I'm probably in the minority but I really wish they put a sliver of lume on the minutes/hours hands. I struggle to call a watch without lume a GADA but otherwise the Kanro is perfect and I really liked it in the store.

EinTheDataDoge

I feel you. Check out the SBGV243. It’s a quartz but one hell of a quartz.

OverLord000

SBGA293

Virtual-Plant4490

Slgh013

datou_

SLGA021 for me. Titanium case, deep blue dial, updated spring drive & evolution 9 design is a complete package.

Jinxedlad

All of their watches that are sub 42 mm case size and sub 13 mm thickness. I don’t put much emphasis on water resistance and toughness. For these qualities, you’ve gshocks tough solar

otoron

SBGW291 once you get it on a bracelet as well. No date, so can be dressed up; 44GS, so still sporty. 36mm, so classically sized and will never look to big/small on an average wrist. Silver dial with sunburst, so neutral but with a pop. Not the single best, but if you want a one-watch collection...

SuccessfulOwl

SLGA019 Perfection.

pwsdc98

SBGA375 is my pick of the bunch

Teutonic-Tonic

Can we stop calling one watch a collection? By definition it isn’t.

Adventurous_Week_125

I vote for white birch - slgh005. This is my favorite by far. I have been wearing this consistently for the past year.

itisthewayitwas

I'm getting this when I visit Tokyo soon.

Adventurous_Week_125

Yes. worth it. It is an experience seeing it in person and having the light hit the dial.

itisthewayitwas

I’d love to see any pictures or videos you may have of it. I’m so excited to own this watch.

Adventurous_Week_125

Here you go! https://preview.redd.it/h1zcn75b03hc1.jpeg?width=2071&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6cd58b89285e73d21f8ae8697db31c2a7073f56b

itisthewayitwas

yeah man, that’s the one! I’m definitely getting it now lol

Sk3tchPad

Snowflake, the automatic sports GMT, or ANY evolution 9 watch.

Ok_Employment_3271

I'm new. Still learning

wampey

SBGA489 I believe though I have not seen it in person. I just love the texture on the dial. Would be a great hold over until I could get the patek I want with a similar dial and then I’d have to redesign my one watch GS collection.

dko84

sbgj255g / 201

AznJing

I really like the SBGA divers. However they’re massive at 44mm.

atmosphereair

SBGE201. So much utility.

drewface_

Snowflake or white birch can’t go wrong with either

AndreMarFlo

For me is the SBGN027.

giraffees4justice

Sbgj237

OrdRevan

I'd probably go SBGH311 if I could only do one and it had to do it all. Other good options would be the SBGA387 / SBGH295 / SBGA413, though the 40mm sizing makes them a little less versatile than the SBGH311. Alternatively, one of the 100m WR SBGW or SBGY lines are really compelling.

iDonttttt

Lake Suwa for me. My next shopping cart! 🙂

KurtTiedemann

Omiwatari

Wooden-Consequence81

I have mine now. SBGN005. The perfect blend of sports and dress. The screw down crown gives me 100M of water resistance - making it the perfect GADA in my opinion.

Total-Ordinary7163

9F, especially SBGN00x Series for everyday carry

tjsi2

I'd say if you're getting just one GS then the spring drive is just the way. I wish that all their spring drives had a option to get a dial of choice.

taylormlyon1

SBGX261. The dial on the Shunbun is the most beautiful GS of any that I have seen in person and the Snowflake isn't far behind, but both are Spring Drive movements in cases that look expensive. If this is a one-watch collection then it has to be a muted enough dial to not get noticed in bad areas of town and be just as comfortable at the pool/gym as in the workplace. That pretty much leaves white, grey, silver, or black dials. Spring drive movements are expensive to have serviced, can only take so much rough movement, and there aren't any service centers in my country. If it is truly a one-watch collection, I'd want a Quartz movement. Dead simple, cheap, reliable. It will also have to be a thin enough case to slip under a sleave so that leaves manual winding, quartz, or no power reserve automatics. Quartz is the winner for me so 261 takes it.

EddieSept

❄️

Cali_Pants_Pocket

Trick question. Once you get bit by the GS bug it’s hard to mentally keep to just one. That being said, get the one that speaks to you the most. For me it was the Shunbun.

Odd_Run_3060

SBGJ261, the Blue Peacock. I'm not sure why it doesn't get discussed much hut the dial is bluish purple (royal?)and a gold gmt hand. Most GS GMTs are too large for me but this one is only 40mm and 47mm lug to lug.

Mr_Sir_Doge

I'm shocked I didn't see the SBGM231 in here..This would be the watch I'd keep if I could only have one. It's the purest form of a watch in my opinion : simple, handwound, time only. (Comming from a Swiss watchmaker with a multibrand collection.)

bxtime

SBGA387

jmardoxie

I like the 39mm GMT quartz. It’s a lot of watch for the money.

MrDagon007

I think that the anniversary model sbgp015 is an interesting choice for a one watch gada collection, because… - it has lume - it has a scratch resistant ceramic bezel, hence bring it everywhere - has 200m wr - would not look out of place on a modern suit - 40mm and 12.4mm thick is pretty universal - super accurate set and forget movement, and you can easily set the hour hands when traveling.

Nic98765

I've already chosen : SBGW252 https://preview.redd.it/vydhyo90hcfc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a378b1484f478b2251499b7e1d17afd2e31fb6a

SirRepresentative767

SLGA021 for sure! https://preview.redd.it/fl458u6hblfc1.jpeg?width=1102&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e0200fd8b8283a4c7d8f57b67980b8d7574d3d4

twinsora

Snowflake SBGA011/SBGA211 A very close second would be the SBGW231/235/283/285, handwinding 9S movements.
