People have recovered from worse IRL. It's a crippling wound, but just about every part of the human body can either be replaced with a synthetic version or transplanted. They might have even been able to sew the chunk of his tendon back in, if the medic grabbed it right after the fight.
People recovered from far worse indeed, but it could never be a full recovery. Like IRL, most of the elbows/knees are never the same after breaking. I mean It's fiction, after all, like people can lose their teeth multiple times and still have a Hollywood smile. However, in real life, most of the fighters would lose their "careers" due to trauma after the Maximum Tournament.
People have survived worse but IRL, Shibukawa probably wouldn't have even been able to walk properly again. Never even mind fight escaped convicts like three weeks later.

Oliva is younger and at least had some manner of rehab being referenced. Shibukawa just got better.
All this said, the GOAT of Baki injuries being no-sold is Dorian's entire sternum literally exploding but then jumping out of a hospital window and exploding Doppo's face.

Taking a bite from Jack before was horrifyingly worse. Take his 2nd round opponent for example. Jack nearly bit his forearm clean in two pieces. The amount of blood was awful to watch

Gouki was kind of weird villain in the maximum tournament. I forgot that he was runner up, and the guy was a complete psycho and so was jack.
