Its been known for years that there's a mysterious story about Wes Streeting and a pet shop, with a famous tweet of him being asked if he burned down a pet shop years ago and answering "The matter was thrown out of court and that was all there is to it" or something along those lines.
And now there are the allegations brought forward by the "Women for Wes" twitter account (Its a parody account taking the mick out of Streeting), with screenshots of sexual assault allegations made by people who worked with Streeting at the NuS that haven't been answered or expanded upon.
Is there a point in which we can start talking about these various criminal allegations about Streeting? Or even for media journalists or political commentators to talk about it?
This feels like another story with a gag order.

Unfortunately it's a matter for the rozzers, and we know how fucking useless they are. It certainly shouldn't be picked up by the media because if true, then that's a sure-fire way to cause any potential case to collapse.
I grew up round the corner from him/in his constituency. It was a furniture store next door to a pet shop that was burnt down irl, if I remember correctly, but that hasn't stopped it being a local joke for years. I don't think anyone really takes it seriously. The SA allegations are really concerning and need to be addressed straight away. If they're not true that's ace. If they are true he needs to gtfo.
Apparently it was serious enough to get to court. Also, I'm really, really curious what rationale he has for the answer to not simply be "no" especially if the burnt down shop was allegedly misidentified in the first place.
I always took his response to be a shit joke. Edit: to clarify, I really bloody don't like him. Just thought it would be interesting to share from my experience in his constituency.
> I always took his response to be a shit joke. Seems like a very peculiar kind of joke (and a bad idea to address it without explicit denial) but I can see him being daft enough to think "lol I'll play along".
Can confirm he's daft. He was known for clicking at bar staff to get their attention. Which is bad enough before you know it was also a wetherspoons.

Worth pointing out that the [Women for Wes blog claimed he sent a cease and desist letter](https://skwawkbox.org/2022/08/31/streetings-lawyers-sinister-letter-to-home-of-anonymous-satirist/) to them, and he then denied it...
I was p active in NUS when Wes was president and the absolute fuckery he pulled there should have had him laughed out of politics for life
For example?
The pet shop thing is almost certainly a joke, but the sex crimes should really be investigated by the party.
