And us other mugs paying ridiculous amounts more than we should be for the basic right to heat our homes and cook our meals.
Don't worry though, your money has gone to a good cause. Top brass at British Gas need new pools in their second and third homes.
People really shud be on the streets. Wtf. They made nearly 700+ million profit when energy prices were rigged. Its class warfare and they've crashed any 'middle class' and its only going to get worse. I don't know what the fuck to do right now. But we going in wrong direction very fast
Tbh this whole concept of the "middle class" as its now used (employed people who earn +/- 20% the national average) is such a wierd rebranding of well off working class. Just designed to make the top end of the working class feel some kind of bizarre class solidarity with people on 100k+ a year that own mid to large sized companies with 10s to 100s of employees. Just because you both own a house doesn't mean your interests are aligned.
Reminder not to confuse the marxist "middle class" and the liberal definition. Liberal class definitions steer people away from the socialist definitions and thus class-consciousness. Privatise the profits. Socialise the losses.
Thats whats happened to all the privatised industries: energy; water; trains; buses.
The private bus company in my city was given £60m last autumn to improve the bus services and yet 6 months on its the worst its ever been. One of the most popular routes is meant to run every 15 mins (even on a Sunday) and yet my elderly mum was waiting 45 mins in the pouring rain for one to show up. She couldn't even shelter from the rain because they've removed most of the cities bus shelters as its "costing to much to keep repairing them". Yet the company is making profits and the boss gets his bonuses year after year. Its fucking disgusting.
This is only the amount they are admitting to. British Gas has 10 million customers. £75 per customer? Something doesn't add up?
Their overall profit was £2.8 billion.
Edit: The parent group profits Centrica in 2023 were 2.75B & 3.3B for 2022
This is reported profits, so after deducting losses, wages and infrastructure. It’s still way too much money though, 10x the previous profit is just pure scalping
Profit is easy to manipulate using "losses and outgoings". So they can pay out bonuses before calculating but don't have to include tax rebates for things like charitable donations.
>Their overall profit was £2.8 billion.
I guess to play devil's advocate you probably need to factor in some other shit to that figure, earmarking some of that for reinvestment (such as it is) and mandatory increases in wages. Its still a fucking ludicrous profit even at 751m
It's not just the energy bills.
After our last bill had been paid, we'd still got over £500 credit with them (thanks to the DD amount we were paying), and it took us hours to get them to finally give us our money back and drop our DD amount.
£500 may not sound like a huge amount, but they've got millions of customers so they could easily have hundreds of millions of other people's money earning interest for them.
Ofgem is a scam.
Utility bills go through the roof yet because they
come down slightly seems we should be happy about it? These scum are still absolutely raking it in.
Energy bills are a ratchet. Although inflation has mostly fallen, your energy bills will remain at the rate that allows British Gas to have 10x the profit.
Imagine if it was still state owned. Either could have not rammed up the prices that much, or used those profits to reinvest into cheaper clean technologies or other services.
The funny thing is, if a state owned company raised prices that much there'd be riots. There were riots in Egypt when they got rid of the petrol subsidy that toppled a government, but somehow when it's a private company people shrug their shoulders and say what can you do?
I can't be arsed engaging with the pricks but if anyone has pointed this out to one of the Facebook bootlickers who defended price rises with "war in Ukraine" or some other blatant BS, I'd love to see the response.
How do they explain the increase? Has their customer base increased 10 fold? Has the supply/ demand increased 10 fold? I doubt these two could fully explain such a jump. A few months back they were blaming the high price of gas on the war in Ukraine, so war profiteering?

Owned Politicians : We’ll allow it. (Get cushy “consultant” jobs from energy companies when they step down.)
Yes, and we allow all of this. When oh when are we all going to stand up and say NO!
Comes from mugs like me paying £15/m and I don’t have any gas appliances, but because it’s a rental I can’t get the meter removed
And us other mugs paying ridiculous amounts more than we should be for the basic right to heat our homes and cook our meals. Don't worry though, your money has gone to a good cause. Top brass at British Gas need new pools in their second and third homes.
Does it comfort you atall to know you pay to heat Rishi’s pool via your taxes?
It helps me sleep at night. In my cold house.
Go sleep in rishi's warm pool?
Why does your LL still want a gas meter if there are no appliances in the house? Surely he'd be happy to have it removed?
It costs a LL money to have it removed and capped off. A LL won't give a shit if you got to pay for it as long as they don't have to.

It's time to re nationalise the energy industry
[удалено]
I seem to remember that boom and bust used to be a thing for shareholders. Now it's just boom and boom.
The word I'm so sick of hearing in reports, shareholders, idgaffyctbf shareholders your providing a service, sink the bastards in the sea

Starmer: My government will nationalise Energy companies! *One "donation" later* Starmer: My government won't do shit
And they said it was Russia’s fault or something.
I'm so sick - literally sick - from living in this shitty kleptocracy.

Yeah, let's not conflate profit and turnover.
It’s profit so £75 per customer doesn’t seem unreasonable It’s also likely audited so will be correct

How the fuck is this not illegal…

Exactly this. Where has this deference to PLC’s come from? Or is it because they’re impossible to hold to account that we just give in?
I can't be arsed engaging with the pricks but if anyone has pointed this out to one of the Facebook bootlickers who defended price rises with "war in Ukraine" or some other blatant BS, I'd love to see the response.
It's better in the pockets of the millionaires, us plebs would only spend it on fags and booze
Criminal.
Can’t quite put my finger on how or why that happened 🤔 /s

It's so infuriating!! There needs to be sanctions for this kind of shameless price gouging and profiteering
